You can make lemonade out of your lemons, but the acid remains.

Framed and formatted like hits different.  I almost don't recognize my own words.

Ship it.

Hiring new employees always has some element of risk; the guy with 20 years of experience could still be a dud.  But, that's not a useful hypothetical, since any new hire is a gamble, regardless.

If the black dude was the only resume you got, would you hire him?  Does his lack of experience increase risk significantly, or only slightly?  What about the personalities of the applicants; experience aside, is there any way to determine which one is more likely to have a safety-minded work ethic?

I don't think the race of the people on the floor should be a significant factor.  My monkey brain says "maybe the black dude will get along better with the floor employees, or feel more responsibility towards them"... but that's racist/tribalist bullshit, and my monkey brain needs to SHUT UP.

Less "human ethical", and more "corporate ethical" much extra is your inexperienced engineer likely to cost you in accidents/errors/training while he's coming up to speed, and will his lower initial salary make up for that?  (I'm guessing not, it's just another thing to think about).

So the drones scrapped each other, as they were the highest concentration of metal in the immediate area.

That is so beautiful it almost brings a tear to my eye.

Or Kill Me / Buttons
« on: April 27, 2022, 02:42:52 am »
No one likes to think they can be manipulated.  Yet here I am; I have buttons, they can be pushed, and if you push them, everybody loses.  I can be acquaintances--maybe even friends--with someone for years, but if they push a button... we're done.

He said that companies would be within their rights to break people's fingers for copyright infringement.  It's not the worst thing I've ever heard of, but it hit a button.

I expressed dismay/disgust, drew the obvious parallel with the practice of cutting the hands off thieves, and he didn't back down.  He wasn't joking.

Now, I'm something of an armchair tough-guy, myself.  I believe in grand destruction.  I believe in disproportionate response.  Your dog poops on my lawn, I sprinkle birdseed on your car.  You slap my face, I punch you in the neck.

But breaking someone's fingers for copying a fucking video game isn't funny.  It's petty, barbaric, fascistic, corporate.  It's the kind of attitude that reminds me of my father, may he rot in hell.

And that's one of my buttons.

I was a member of a certain video game forum/discord server for years, now I'm not.  The clincher...some time after I soft-flounced, I got a DM telling me I should return, and resume my place.  So I naturally cut off all remaining avenues of communication, without so much as a good-bye.

My place is where I am, not where I've been.

Can someone please link to his Discordian Sermon on cameo?

We only got the first paragraph, but it was like the voice of an angel to my ears

If others want to buy the rest go for it

It went really well, too.  We got a whole cow through the grinder in less than 5 minutes.

This has sort of split me and my group off onto a tangent, and we have proven there was more information moved between government and NGO departments prior to email than there is today...When measured as "useful, actionable information."

How is that measured?  Does the reduction in information flow appear to be an artifact of technological change, cultural change, or some combination?

(I'm quite cognizant that making it easier for people to ask questions results in a higher proportion of stupid questions.)

This attempted rocket(?) launch is one of the most glorious things I've ever seen.  It's worthy of John Clark.

Quote from one of the project's founders:  "You have to work hard, but you do not have to be very smart."

Quote from an industry professional: "When you decompose HNO3 with other things, you get nitric oxides in the cloud. This is Not Fun."

I was trying to find this loser's house on google streetview because why not, but I think it's on a dirt road or something, so I skipped down a highway a little ways--just being a tourist, you know, I do that with streetview sometimes--and I saw a sign that said "Escabana Felch ->"  and I says to myself, "What's a Felch?  Is it some sort of geographical term?"  So then I googled "define felch" and

I have the damndest gaps in my vocabulary.

Anyway, Felch Mountain Bible Chapel is a real place, and that fills me with glee.

I did, yeah. I just wasn't digging hard enough for the first round. His email is going to be canned soup in two days time. And I can't WAIT until the winter, when all the schools in Wisconsin have closing alerts.

Hold on, Wisconsin, or <state name redacted to protect the guilty>?

my youtube channel is blowing up with views - is that you?  did you like the balloon joke?  get it?  it's a magic balloon
I may be one of those views, although I don't know if looking at something for five seconds before clicking dislike would count as a view.

With this, you've dug yourself a hole that Elon Musk would say is a bit too deep. It's a shame you aren't as identifiable as Fujikoma or LuciferX, because I would love to just crush your online presence from all conceivable angles. I would make you feel dread to comment on a Youtube video. I have the time, I have the means, I have the energy. Alas, you've covered your online ass -- almost like you know the shit you get up to and what will happen to you for it.

If you're already sending him email, I guess you've already completed a trace, but I found the two posts below quite informative.
Far too informative, really.  A few minutes googling got me to a full name, state, city and street address, and phone number (oops).

rong, like...dude?  You left your address in your profile on that bicycling forum.  You haven't posted there since 2019.  You should really scrub that.

cool stuff - I'd not heard of oculus medium but I am slowly learning Gravity Sketch and I'm absolutely enthralled with it.  I've used it to make a few worlds in Altspace and I can't get over how well it works.

It does seem the healthcare sector is warming up to VR the fastest.  There's a weekly meetup in Altspace (do I maybe spend too much time in altspace, oh probably . . .) on Thursdays called Health Systems chat.  If you haven't been it may be a good networking opportunity for you.

Here's a couple worlds I've made if you're interested in checking them out:

this seems like a good place to post my balloon joke.  i hope you like it

geeze, cut a guy some slack, would ya?
What have you ever said or done that would earn you any slack?

1) we all know it's impossible for people to change
Have you changed?  Do you want to change?  Are you going to change?

i just try to make jokes but suffer from bad taste

Do you suffer from foot-in-mouth disease?  Do you make inappropriate comments that alienate everyone around you?  Do you fear you may be making an idiot of yourself in public?  Do you experience verbal diarrhea?

We have the solution you're looking for!

SHUT UP is a revolutionary product, first discovered by Mongolian Bhuddist monks in the Pleistocene epoch, and recently perfected in the laboratory.  SHUT UP is hypoallergenic, nut-free, and gluten free.  Four out of five ascetics have no comment on SHUT UP.

Ask your Doktor if SHUT UP is right for you.

Nah, I got what I wanted already, CNO. This sounds like someone confronted with the fact that they're fucking bonkers and trying to modify their position to sound reasonable because they really DO believe their bullshit, but they don't have the spine to go full QAnon and alienate the universe. Too desperate to have conviction, too convinced to let go. No surprises here, and not worth any effort from this point onward.

I guess you're right., I spent two minutes finding this link, I may as well leave it here.
