Title: Did the PD start the Modern Illuminati Mythos?
Post by: NikkiLaVey on January 30, 2009, 08:08:18 PM
As far as I can track down this is the origin of the Modern Illuminati Mythos?

I try to tell this to people on Conspiracy Theory Boards and they act like I just killed their puppy what do you think?

I think it's really hard to convince someone of something they don't want to know.

Nope, its definately part of the resurgence... but it was inspired by the already active Illuminati Theories. Wilson and Shea were Playboy Magazine Editors and had to deal with all of the crazy letters to the editor. Illuminatus was conceived with Bob asked Bob "Wouldn't it be funny if ALL of these conspiracies were true?"

As for the Dan Brown stuff... he was more likely inspired by Holy Blood, Holy Grail which also inspired RAW's Historical Illuminatus Chronicles.

If anything Illuminatus! took advantage if the meme and probably popularized it. Just like RAW popularized 23 Enigma and the 8 Circuit model, neither of which were his creation... but he could explain them a hell of a lot better than the people that did come up with them ;-)

I thought the radical right of the time, in particular the John Birch society and other such anticommunist fringe groups, were the main propogators of the Illuminati mythology during the 50s and 60s.

Indeed. Through happenstance, they all liked porn and for some reason assumed the libertarians running the place would agree with their EVIDENCE.

This confirms some of the things I have read. I bet RAW smiled every time someone came out with "Proof" of the Illuminati

You should start pushing the "Stephen Colbert is the Third Outer Head of the Bavarian Illuminati" meme, and see if the wackos come up with 'supporting evidence'.

That'd be awesome, getting real paranoids to write our press releases for us.
