The correspondence theory of truth (access to knowledge through senses or reason is flawed) is denied.  No reason to suppose mental concepts tally with reality except through direct interaction.  Cannot be universalized. 

Discordian view: the universe is in a state of ,Äúbecoming,Äù (Heraclitus) chaotic movement and change and coherence is a mental construct.  ,ÄúTo know,Äù means to have imposed categories on chaotic processes which are useful to us and/or based on incomplete data (Law of Fives).

Broad to universal consensus must be reached for a society to exist.  This is naturally an enforced decision (alliance between military and priesthood), however it is incomplete in its understanding and so cannot succeed (Law of Imposition).  Collective life is made possible, however it begins to break down and takes increasing amounts of force to be held together, which only destabilizes the system further.  Illusionary hunt for proof of metaphysical musings.

Linguistics as a BIP.

People think with words.  Higher concepts can only be thought of through verbal means in particular.  However, language simplifies the world, removes the chaos.  Controls how thinking happens as well as what can be thought (subject-object framework).

Science a BIP?

World can be observed and learnt from to our benefit.  However, science cannot discover absolute or transcendental proofs.  Science vs worship of science.  However, global scepticism an unsolvable paradox.  Absolute rejection is another blind alley and not a very fruitful or accurate one at that.  Contingent knowledge?  Acceptance of knowledge, that has been tested, working for the now, but without blind worship as to its eternal value?  Possible.

I finally read this book.  Its bullshit.  Seriously, all respect to Crucio, because his blog, "Culturehacking Notes" and various other works make for good reads, but the book is like a bad version of Illuminatus!  A bad, unfunny version of it.  The best thing to come out of it is the M.H.B.S. papers, because of their already Discordian nature.  But really, I would have been disappointed if I had bought the book.

Yes.

Perhaps.  Terrorist groups famously use the web to not only disseminate propaganda and deal with funding/paperwork things but more recently to actually spread tactical and strategic knowledge.  Many of the Jihadi sites have downloads that tell you everything from how to clean an AK-47 to battle reports from the latest gunfight with American soldiers in Iraq. 

A more peaceful example is some of the micro-states in the Pacific, which will likely vanish under the sea in 20 years.  Many will be relocated to Australia anyway, but the UN has looked at the creation of virtual communities to keep these states alive, in some sense.

Really, I think the web is a tool to change primary loyalties.  If a religion or other transnational/subnational ideology can proliferate on the web, it will invariably challenge the state system.  However, I think Bey has said something about a TAZ having to exist in a real setting, not just on the web, although he conceded the two are very similar.  Something like that, I'm not sure, but he has thought about the topic to some depth.

I've read it.   Not bad at all and I recommend it.

The problem with Hakim Bey is that he's a pedo, and a mystic.  This in and of itself is not so unusual (though morally reprehensible), but the fact he uses his writings to justify both positions is somewhat disturbing.  I tend to extract what is useful and ignore the rest (like his crap about Fiume - he doesn't tell you the followers of the Italian poet who took over the city were the forerunners of Futurism and Italian fascism).  You have to be careful with Bey's stuff.
