Testimonial - Well it seems that most of you "discordians" are little more than dupes of the Cathedral/NWO memetic apparatus after all -- "freethinkers" in the sense that you are willing to think slightly outside the designated boxes of correct thought, but not free in the sense that you reject the existence of the boxes and seek their destruction.

Sometimes it's easy to forget how good we have it compared to other times and places.  And for no other reason than the roll of the dice.

I think it's less about remembering or comparisons and more about a realization that you still have a hand to play. You're not yet out of the game. I could be wrong, but that's how I initially interpreted it.

...There's Science Heaven and Rock N Roll Hell...  ...Dimo is stuck dead center on this one, and just sorta vibrates in place...

That's actually a fair description, but it's been more like vacillation than vibration.

Until recently, that is. Things are REALLY weird now, and I'm either begging to synthesize the two (in a Hegelian dialectical sense) or completely fall off. It's hard to tell from where I'm at now. I'm either on the brink of a step up, or the floor is about to drop out from under me.

Well, this just answered what place you take in something I'm about to do here.   :lulz:

I[...]found that it reflected my philosophy of life quite well.

It's a trap.

So, I've been listening to the 'Undertale' soundtrack. Not sure why, but I can write like lightning when this is on. Hell, anything I do while listening to this becomes less like work. Even work. Dunno why... My favorite bit is at 3:21

Submitted my paper on teaching classical categorical logic to the journal 'Teaching Philosophy.' I'd imagine that it wouldn't be picked up, but I think the paper was good enough that I at least have a chance... What's worse than rejection is waiting to see if you'll be rejected. In fact, I don't really care either way, the waiting just sucks.

Oooooh, good luck! That would be an awesome publication credit.

I'm planning on using the paper as a writing sample for grad school apps. Having it published would really set it apart from other people's. In either case, it's a great sample. I'm dying to get back to my studies... Non-academic life is so... mundane.

A publication would definitely be a feather in your cap for grad school apps!

Yeah, that's the plan. I hear that you are doing well with your studies, which also makes me happy: Non-traditional students, FTW

BUMPING.  GIVE ME, GIVE ME, TELL ME NOT OF FEAR!

Give me a few days. I'm at a particularly difficult chapter to write (I have to incorporate some backstory, so I have to make sure everything is problem-free and presented properly, with style) but once I'm past that milestone, I'll send you a copy. Mind you, It's currently at over 35000 words. It's quite a bit to look at, so I'd understand if you didn't have the time. (Though, it would be nice to get some feedback from some of you spags, BUT NO PRESSURE  :fnord: )

Just so you all know, I've been checking out everything here. While all of it is good, the only stuff I listened to that really fit the bill was Godspeed you. The nin stuff suggested by lmno was pretty good, but had some parts that really pulled me out of my creative headspace. That said, I'd check out more suggestions if anyone has any.
#56
Oh, my... Godspeed You is... exactly what I was looking for. Thanks SO MUCH for the awesome suggestion.

You're not going to believe me: Nine Inch Nails, "Ghosts I-VII". It's all instrumental. It's how I cranked out 30 Days of Eris.

I'll check it out after practice tonight.

Two vast and trunkless legs of stone / Music Suggestions
November 02, 2015, 04:48:55 PM
So, I'm looking for some suggestions for music to listen to while I'm writing. I'm looking for stuff without prominent lyrics, and maybe a little ambient as long as it's still actually musical. This is what I usually listen to: C418 and Geinō Yamashirogumi's Akira OST. They are both pretty varied, so try to give a few songs a listen to get a good idea of what they're like. I'm just getting a little tired of the same two artists, but haven't found anything else that is suitable. Any suggestions?

Didn't necessarily want to bump this (a thread about someone's "novel that they've been working on" is a little embarrassing to have floating around the front page). But, a friend of mine who has read pretty much every book ever gave me my first piece of feedback.

I quote: "...Yours is one of the strangest books I've ever read."

I'll take it.

Anyhow, if anyone is planning on looking it over, there is an updated draft with about twice the content of the last one I sent out. Just let me know if you're interested. Otherwise, I will refrain from bumping this topic.
#59
Ok, I sent out a few copies. I started feeling a little unsure about it, so I want to get some feedback from a few people before I send it out en masse. So, if you didn't get a copy, I'm either waiting for initial feedback from others first, or I don't have your email (mostly looking at Roger and Waffles on this latter point).
#60
So, I'll still send out copies to anyone who wants to read it, but I'm going to take another day or two to polish up what I have, and maybe get a little further in the narrative. The beginning is intentionally misleading, so it might be better for me to get a little further in before asking for feedback. In the meantime, pm me your email addresses, because I don't think I have them for any of you.
