Nigel, Phox & Roger,

Thanks for the input guys. I'll talk this over with Mrs Mang and see what she thinks. In the frame of mind she's in tonight...lol....what I said in the letter was significantly less vicious than what she said in her phone rant to me this afternoon

If I ask her about it it'll have to be as 'send or not send?'. If I said 'should I not do this for fear of appearing paternalistic?' she's going to give me the  :kingmeh: look. That's not particularly part of her vocabulary. Similarly, she doesn't care much for Sanskrit either.

And apparently, not only should women just agree with men so that fights don't escalate, I am supposed to go and work in Home Depot. That I worked and paid for all my training out of my own pocket, emigrated, established my own employment and pay tax is clearly missing on this cretin. No, I get to work in DIY retail so a man earning $700,0000+ a year and is drowning in debt can put in a new bid on a larger 2nd home at the Cape. It's a Romney-mass MIRACLE!!!!!!
Heh, yeah. I fully agree with your frustation, Mang. But yea,h i think asking her if she thinks you should it is the best option. Anyway, good luck to her and good luck to you. (and hey, if you manage to get a response share the lulz. :lulz:)

Thanks Phox, that was kind of you!
No problem. While I don't claim to be any sort of expert, I figured you'd appreciate a little "Hey this one might give you a seizure, proceed with due caution" type dealy. Most of them are probably safe (I think that you've mentioned that the frequency needs to be in a certain range or something like that before?), but I'd rather not have anybody getting caught off guard by it, you know?

Hmm. While I approve of the content and righteous indignation, I am also in agreement with Nigel. This is probably just going to reinforce his misogyny.

To be honest, there wasn't any likelihood that I could make these assholes treat women better and I can't see how my letter would make them treat their wives/co workers worse.

I mean, they've been doing this for years. I don't think for a minute that me writing to them would, in any way, 'open their eyes' and for them to go 'Mang is right! We treat women like shit!'

As I said, I've had enough of these douchebags and I need either a better strategy or a really really good explanation as to why I cannot express my discontent over blatantly stupid, selfish behaviour especially when their method of attacking her involves taking shots at me. Is a spouse never allowed to call out morons when they mistreat someone they care for?
No, no, don't take it that way. What I meant is that they will see your letter and say "See? Even this guy speaks for his wife, just like I've always said." I mean, the way I see it this is sort of a no win situation for you. If you don't say anything, nothing happens. If you do say something, then nothing happens. Like I said, I do approve of everything you said, and I would certainly feel the same way if I were you. But, like you said, it's not going to change any minds.

So, really, it comes down to whether you think that mailing this letter will at least provide you with some closure, or whatever you're looking for. Also, might want to discuss it with your wife if you haven't already.

And lastly, good luck to Mrs. Mang in her new job. Hopefully it's better than that shithole.

Well then maybe people should back off and stop attacking me for no damn reason then.

This isn't cutting throats.  This is me being attacked and legitimately defending myself.
No this is you overreacting to perceived slights for no damn reason.

I said Nigel's point made sense, but that with Faust's information, I have no real opinion on the matter. Sorry for summarizing my thought process in light of the most recent information. Allow me to correct that.

Personally, I'd rather it remained turned on, because 1) I agree with Cain's points and 2) Faust's revelation makes me think that it's not worth the trouble. HOWEVER. Nigel's point, that stalkers are a problem, is a legitimate concern. While the suggested solution is not really a solution, it seems to me that it is something that we should honestly work towards some form of security in this regard.

Oh I'm sorry, I didn't realize my tone invalidated the actual points I raised in my post.

And for the record, this is me being condescending now.
I didn't say your points were invalid, jackass. I just said that I can fully see why Nigel would say it was about ego. I thought it was clear from the "Regardless of how you meant it." that I was giving you the benefit of the doubt. But, I guess not.

What does ego have to do with any of this?

Sorry, I'm not in the mood to answer lazy ad hominem arguments.
Gotta be honest, dude. Your other posts ITT come off as condescending. Regardless of how you meant them.

In terms of the argument here, I have little opinion on the matter. However, I think Nigel's points here seem to be reasonable enough. On the other hand, if the only solution is to make the profiles completely private, I'm not sure if that's good enough. However, I would not object if that was the case.

Just to play devil's advocate for a moment, I should point out that Uncle BadTouch does try to intertwine his beliefs with Discordianism, they aren't simply "surplus opinions a discordian has".  So, there might be merit in his being interviewed with everyone else, out of a sense of completeness.

If I were to watch a documentary, or read a book, on Christianity I would want to now about Fred Phelps too.

There, I said it... Uncle BadTouch, the Fred Phelps of Discordia.

I have no objection to him being interviewed.

I simply won't be involved.  At all.

Yeah, I feel like I'm being yelled at because I'm not playing and they want me to play.  :kingmeh:

As far as a documentary on Discordia, is this a documentary? Or a series of interviews, which is less like a documentary and more like a collaboration? Will C be including his own analysis of the situation? It appeared to me to be more like a "Discordians, in their own words" kind of project, and less of a "glimpse into modern Discordianism" kind of project, but either way, I don't have to choose to have my words appear alongside those of a hebephile, and there's no compelling reason for  me to do so.

To address the question directly, yes I will be adding some of my own commentary.

For the record if someone chooses to participate or not, I respect that choice.

Could I please ask that my irl name not be used on PD for the next five weeks? I'm still teaching  for the next few weeks and my students occasionally webstalk me.

Also that sucks Roger, and I'm sorry to hear it.

Oh, "respect" is why you removed me from your group in the middle of that conversation?  Sure. It couldn't have been butthurt or censorship or anything like that.

Fuck you and your project, asshole.
Wait, what? He was talking about respecting people's decisions to participate or not and then he throws someone out of the group? Uhhh...  :lulz:

There's one to legalize it on a federal level. I'm guessing since it was asking for legalizing it on a state level it got trashed. That or the horse sex line did it in.

Probably the horse sex line.
Still got my name on it before it got the boot. It makes me kinda want to start a petition for the banishment of the phrase "horse sex" from all official government documents.  :lulz:
