Messages - chaotic neutral observer

A co-worker said something really nice to me today.

He thanked me for setting the precedent of not working overtime.

I'm becoming a bad influence.

Sometimes my job is like trying to teach a bear to nail jello to the wall.  If the bear eats the jello instead of me, I call it a good day.  When the bear eats the wall, it's time to take some vacation days.

Every once in a while, I drop a hint that to management that I could do more with a bigger bear, but they tell me there's only project budget for nails.  I've already got a pretty big bear, anyway.

Naturally, I voted for "SHUT UP".

See, for one SHUT UP is not the best fit for the question, because "Right" is the wrong answer to what is wrong, and therefore the most wrong option available.

Are you saying I voted for the wrong answer?

In Ireland we should be good for Milk, eggs, beef and potatoes and most grain. However there is a risk to imports that use the UK as a land bridge either becoming prohibitively expensive or unavailable for a while.
Electricity and fresh water should be ok but it's worth including if possible

At the risk of coming across as a Fallout post apocalyptic fetishist here's what I am thinking:

<snip>

I would also suggest you consider:

flour, sugar, salt, vinegar
fruit juice (of a type that doesn't require refrigeration)
water filters (but if you get to the point of needing them, they won't help much)
dish soap (something general purpose, that doesn't irritate skin)
bandages, isopropyl alcohol

I'm conflicted, on one hand no one wants to see a reformed hooded claw. But on the other Vegeta and Goku's rivalry escalated and became more dramatic and nuanced when they were were both fighting on the same side.

A related question is whether good and evil are treated as innate, unalterable characteristics, or if characters can grow and change (or decay) during the course of the story.

I find dynamic characters are almost always more interesting to watch, although if everyone can be redeemed the plot becomes too predictable.  Cell, at least, needed to be vaporized.

If the question were 'Which answer is "Wrong"?', then the answer would clearly be the second item ("Wrong").

However, string delimiters being absent, one could interpret the intent of the question as being "Which answer to this question is incorrect?"  This would appear to present a logical impossibility, since an answer could not simultaneously be wrong and correct, and the null answer "mooo" is not presented as a choice.

Since the naive interpretation of the question is invalid, one must consider alternate meanings.  If, instead of referring to correctness in the "truth" sense, the question is one of general moral rectitude, it becomes answerable.

"SHUT UP" is always an appropriate statement.
"Wrong" is also a universally valid response, since all statements and actions are wrong in some sense.
However "Right", as an answer, is suggestive of submissiveness, naivete, or optimism, and, as such, cannot be condoned.

Therefore, "Right" is always the wrong answer, and is therefore the right answer.

Naturally, I voted for "SHUT UP".

By the previous Spider rules, we need at least 10-12, I think.  2 Discordians, 3 Spiders, and enough civilians to make things confusing.

I'm interested.

Most materials contract when they freeze.  But not water.  No, water has to be special, and break everything.

I hate:

Tim Hortons.
Country music.
Never had Tim Hortons, on account of being a filthy American, but what's wrong with them?
I agree on country music though.  I'll take Scots and their bagpipes before Rednecks and their..."love stories".

Tim Hortons is sort of a creeping pestilence, but with doughnuts.  They're everywhere, and they try to brand themselves as part of the Canadian identity.  I'm not much of a patriot, but I don't like being involuntarily assigned a corporate affiliation.  Franchises like this also have a tendency to suppress independent local coffee and tea shops (also see: Starbucks).

There was a fluffle about a year ago when Ontario raised their minimum wage, and Tim Hortons corrected for this by reducing employee benefits rather than adjusting prices.  It didn't help their popularity much.

I don't dislike their doughnuts, but their tea is oversteeped, and bitter.

I can't remember, is being counter-culture "in" or "out" this season?

I hate:

Driving in winter.
People giving me orders.
Giving other people orders.
When people lose an argument on the internet, and they just fall silent instead of admitting defeat.
Potato bugs.
People who assert unquestioningly the rightness of their cause or beliefs.  Even when they're right.
Tim Hortons.
Country music.
Not remembering things.
The future.
Quiche.

I hate this fucking cold, going to be stuck inside all this week.
I hate tv weather people that ask me what model they should use.  They should know their area.
I hate Montana.  Nothing works for Montana.  Montana won't math.  Probably not Montana's fault, but it knows what it did.
I hate Alaska because it's warmer than here.

I'm in Saskatchewan.  Four days ago we were at -20 C.  Then there was a sudden low-pressure thing, and yesterday it was +3 with freezing rain and high wind.  Tonight's low is -31.

Well, let's see...nice tension throughout, phenomenal writing, viva la revolucion, and LMNO can't count! :argh!:
Rounds 4-7 had miscalculations
4: pg 16
11/2 = 5.5 + 1 = 6.5 rounded up = 7 =/= 6

[...]

So unless LMNO decided to round down instead of up... :lulz:

Twas a good read though. Nice work, Roger's Rascals.

A simple majority out of 11 is 6 or greater.  6+5 = 11.  6>5.  Maybe your grade school teacher taught you that x.5 rounds to (x+1), but she didn't know any better; the real world isn't nearly so unambiguous.  Off the top of my head, I can think of at least six distinct (and equally valid) ways to round a floating-point number to an integer, and LMNO is using one of the situationally appropriate ones to determine a majority, at least in the examples you posted.

Also, trying to correct the arithmetic in a thread over seven years old is rather lame.   :kingmeh:

You seem like a nice kid, but your count is now one.  Slow down and think about the context, especially when you necropost.

Friend of mine was asking for money for a mission trip to evangelize to the heathen country of Finland...

Issues::

1) They're already mostly some flavor of Christian.
2) This time of the year it's dark and they're drunk.

At least this is what my Finnish co-worker told me.

Why not send your friend here?
It's less money than a trip to Finland, and it's been forever since I was last evangelized.

Yesterday I was in a meat shop, and on a whim, picked up something called "Biltong", not knowing what it was.

It's a South African proto-jerky.  But rather than being cut in thin strips, like conventional jerky, it's quite thick.  It's also so tough that I had difficulty cutting off a piece with a steak knife, and expect that a hacksaw might have been more effective.  Actually consuming said comestible left my jaw muscles quite fatigued.

Nice flavour, though.
