Apple Talk / Re: Official February Shit List Thread
« on: February 05, 2009, 01:47:18 am »
My mental health issues have gotten the better of me, again.

So now I'm debating what to give up: my job, which keeps my partially employed parents from having to keep me funded as well, or my research fellowship which is the only thing that gets me real jobs in the summers and probably largely into grad school too.

Or, I withdraw from some classes and then add an additional year onto my undergrad because being in college (part and full) from 15 to 23 is normal right?  :|

If you were out someplace that was relatively easy to forget about, say northern Idaho or Montana, you might be able to get away with homesteading, in which case some animals would be good. Personally, I think sheep would be a good idea; lots of uses.

Eris kicked me in the shin when I met the man who is now my fiance. A while later, we actually met at sushi party and got drunk on plum sake.

Who the fuck drinks Sake?

Generally people, but I suppose squirrels could drink it too if they wanted.

Did you know:

There are currently, in the USA (and always have been), more animal rights
than child protective rights?

To boot, Animal rights, and the formation of the SPCA were precursors to
the first children's rights laws?

The SPCA in the US was started by one Henry Bergh in 1866. it wasn't until 1874
that he took on a child-abuse case. He had no chance of winning the case, except
that he had to argue that the child was no better than an animal, and as such,
had to be treated at least as well as the cattle, which did have statutes in place for
being beaten.

it wasn't until then that there were any real "rights" for a child in the states.

take that peta.

Interesting, but I think this is not the thread for it.

Techmology and Scientism / Re: Hot seal on penguin action

The seal was probably tired of loose seal-women. The penguin would be much tighter; you ever see a bird's cloaca? If the seal could get it in, he wouldn't last long at all.

Thank you for the post!

My evolution class was a POS and I'm looking for true resources on the subject.

Its my impression that the best resources are the original sources, and that of my professor. We're more or less reading On the Origin chapter by chapter. Its not so much a seminar about evolution, but rather a seminar about a seminal text, the history surrouding it and the ideas in it. Lots of what Darwin said seems very, well, quaint I guess when you compare it to what we know today, but this was pre mendel, he had a mechanism but not a vehicle. Very little of the book is devoted to mechanism, most is supporting evidence. The third chapter is On Natural Selection, I think, which is more or less the major hypothesis.

Yes, I had hoped to have a good experience in my evolution class, but it appears the undergrads are not expected to know much on it and/or the bio department has a shamefully poor expectation of the class. We spent a third of the semester discussing ID vs Evolution and this was supposed to be the better professor  :argh!:  The book was terrible as well.

Well.....my fiance and I did have our original wedding date planned for 5 May, 2012 (How many 5s can you get? And this wasn't even planned), however we determined that we would be graduating that day with various degrees (woot MS!) and decided on 5 August.

Discordian Recipes / Re: Rice & ?

Couscous and lentils provide lots of protein and are also cheap. Sautee whatever veggies are on sale, throw some salt and pepper on it et voila! A quick meal that is cheap and produces quality left overs.

I think that after only a paltry 32 posts, it is already obvious that Quercus is awesomeness.

You fucking piece of shit. I don't give a rats ASS that you've been cited by Nobel laureates. YOU ARE A SHITTY PERSON. you apply for a job as a tutor, go through an interview, get hired, get trained, AND THEN RESIGN BECAUSE WE AREN'T INTELLECTUAL ENOUGH. WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU EXPECT WHEN WE TOLD YOU POINT BLANK THAT WE TUTOR 100 AND 200 LEVEL COURSES AND THE UNIVERSITY HAS A MAJORITY OF STUDENTS WHO GRADUATED FROM DETROIT PUBLIC SCHOOLS????? I TRAINED YOU. I TOLD YOU THAT WRITING AND SPEAKING PROPER ENGLISH IS A FUCKING PROBLEM FOR A LOT OF STUDENTS. YOU WERE TUTORING ENGLISH AND LAUGHED IT OFF.

So, what happened when several of your students couldn't write proper English? YOU CAME WHINING TO ME ABOUT IT AND THEN YOU RESIGNED BECAUSE THE STUDENTS WEREN'T TO YOUR LIKING.

"They don't think enough; they don't apply themselves. How am I supposed to tutor that? How is anyone? This entire tutoring program is a waste of the university's funds."

Maybe not be a dipshit about it? How about pay attention to resources we provided to you? Or you could have asked any of your fellow tutors about how they work with their students but then you'd be debasing yourself since they are at least 30 years younger than you, YOU PRETENTIOUS ASS FUCK.

AND HOW DARE YOU SEND YOUR STUDENTS AN EMAIL BLAMING ME FOR YOUR LEAVING.

"My Master Tutor, K******** M*****, has determined that I am unfit for tutoring. You will need to be in touch with her for finding a new, proper tutor."

I HAVEN'T SPOKEN TO YOU SINCE THE DAY YOU WERE TRAINED. I ONLY EMAILED YOU WHEN I EMAILED THE REST OF THE GROUP. WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU GETTING THIS???

And if you truly did, as I have heard from fellow MT's, question my ability to manage the Languages group because I'm not an English major, I will leave a stuffed goose on your doorstep you son of a bitch.

Fun fact: CNN axed their entire science news division and consider their "planet earth" folk to be all the science they need.
