Hm. I'm of mixed feelings on this. Before y'all jump me, let me explain.

In a larger business setting and you find that you're in an awkward relational or emotional situation with an employee, you kind of have to suck it up... but you also have a built-in support network of other coworkers and management. When you are a small business owner such as a dentist or, as in my own case as a small glass supply business, you are working alone with maybe one to five other employees present at a time.

I am a firm believer in small businesses (under, say, 50 employees) being able to let employees go for issues as trivial as personality clashes or sexual distraction. Working with a guy or chick you hate (or like too much) could make a huge difference in the bottom line... at that level, you're talking about YOUR business, YOUR ability to focus, in relation to your business success. You CAN'T get away from them in a small business that size. I let go of a guy who simply bugged the shit out of me. If I had been unable to let him go (we're still friends BTW) I would have gladly collapsed the whole business and sacked everyone in order to not work with him anymore.

This woman's argument that she couldn't have been let go if she had been a man is, in this context, flawed because it assumes that business owners are never attracted to men. She presumes that there is never a situation in a small business setting where a business owner could be attracted to a male employee to such an extent that it jeopardizes the well-being of the owner and therefore of the business. That's manifestly incorrect.
That, is a very good point, Nigel. I had the same thought regarding her argument, but I didn't consider it from the small business point of view.

One of the mods I used for Skyrim adds flaccid penises to all the males.

:lulz:

I was all like "nekkid wimmenz? Check. Hrm....nekid menz need moar nekkid too." It just didn't look like having only a nude mod installed for women. I even went the extra mile and made sure the texture maps for male model was uncircumsized, and added pubic hair.

Coyote, can accept magic shouting, fire breathing dragons, and magical elves. Cannot accept circumcision or women shaving pubic hair.
:lulz: :lulz:

I approve of this asshattery.

Do I want to know what that fringe fetish is, Nigel?

Your imagination is probably better than the real thing.

A teaser:

QuoteHe listened from the other side of doorway to the tantalizing snap... pause... snap... pause... snap of the floss being deftly worked between her pearly whites. With each snap, his turgid cock leapt in response, a glistening drop of slime emerging from the slit in his swollen head. He wished he could watch her work the thin white ribbon into the moist crevices between her large, shapely, slightly tea-stained teeth, her tender pink tongue held to the side just so, saliva pooling in the wetly inviting space between teeth and frenulum...
I'm a Doktor, and I endorse this product and/or service.  :lulz:

But the thing is, according to Hesiod's Works and Days, for some unexplained reason Hope didn't actually come out of Pandora's jar when it was opened: it was in fact the only thing that stayed in there. This suggests that while the ancient Greeks may have considered hope an evil, it had a rather special status. Also, the myth of Pandora seems nothing but a patriarchal sanitation meme, propaganda against clever and wilful women... how is it relevant?

I mentioned the Pandora myth as an example of how the ancient Greeks (at least during Hesiod's time) viewed hope.  The fact that the story is ultimately a tale of how women are the cause of all the problems in the world doesn't matter.
Here's the thing, though. In Hesiod, Pandora is not "LOL First Woman to exist ruined everything for everyone forever"(unlike some silly religions). Actually, Hesiod pegs Pandora as the first of a certain "kind" or as much as I hate the word "race" of women, not women as a whole. This kind of woman is, evidently, spiteful and deceptive, as opposed to "clever and willful". Strong, intelligent, even "willful" women, were often viewed positively by the Greeks, but of course, there are many conflicting sources, so it is rather difficult to say one way or another in broad strokes.

Now, on to the OP.

Alty, I completely agree with you. Hope is a... a rather unproductive frame of mind. At least insofar as "I hope that one day...". While the connotations of the word are hotly debated, I don't necessarily think that "I hope to get a Ph. D, and I'm going to do my damnedest to pull it off" is a negative mindset. when something is not fully in one's power, or when doing your absolute best still is not a guarantee of success, "hope" is not a dirty word. "Here's hoping that I do better this year, while maintaining the same practices as the last," "Here's hoping that this illness will go away on its own, and not do permanent damage, because I really, really don't want to go to the doctor," "here's hoping I can stop binge eating and lose some weight," etc. not so much, ya dig?

You don't find them, stupid. They find you. Chances are, if they haven't found you by now, they won't.

Or maybe they HAVE, and they've implanted suggestions in his brain with F-Waves.  Suggestions like "posting inane shit on forums" and "waste your life trolling Discordians".

You gotta keep the smart ones scared and the dumb ones busy.

Yeah, but we don't have to spoil all their secrets, now do we?

I have nothing to say. I respond to emails at my convenience, regardless of how pressing the matter at hand is. I regurgitate information as it suits my need, and discard it if i find it no longer useful or interesting. I search for outrageous porn on library computers and turn the volume on my headphones all the way up so everyone around me can hear it. I have nothing to say.
