Apple Talk / Re: Open Bar: Curbside Pickup Only

I decided to watch a horror movie a friend recommended to me and it is the first time I've ever been genuinely terrified of a horror film. No worse possible outcome. I recommend it if you can get into slow-burns. Like, "Tarkovsky on Quaaludes" slow, but Jesus fuck. There's four things you could count as jump scares, though I don't know if any but one of them counts, and I don't think any of them are particularly scary or memorable aside from "oh wow" factor. It's the slow quiet shit that erodes your sanity.

It's called Skinamarink and there's currently no legal way to see it. I wish I had waited to see it.
I think that was on at a local community cinema a couple weeks ago, as part of some sort of film festival.  I might have gone to see it, if I'd known what it was.

Anyway, the last thing I have to say on the subject, is my apologies for wasting everyone's time.

What particularly annoys me is that 1.) You tried to run an experiment on us, without our knowledge or consent, and especially 2.) It was a really stupid experiment.

Oh, I have something good for you. https://twitter.com/Palle_Hoffstein/status/1594371817107505154

Sweet merciless Goddess.  He's making the kinds of mistakes I would expect if someone was promoted into upper management fresh out of college.

So, when Elon switches PD to a pay-per-post model, where are we remaining denizens exodizing to?

himeobs.org seems like a lovely candidate, and I suspect that one of you already owns it.  And if not, well, party-crashing is a discordian tradition.

He'll never stop. Which you and I both know is a breach of contract, but he doesn't know what that is.

If you'd said that a week or two ago, I might have doubted you.

But Elon, with his own words, has convinced me that he is utterly incompetent when it comes to management, software development, or running a social media company, and that he is blissfully unaware of that incompetence.

Why shouldn't he be ignorant of basic law as well?

So, the idea is to take a group that's already swimming in bad data, and feed them even more bad data so that they "schism", never mind that it's a group without a central authority, semblance of a well-defined ideology, or even any political relevance, making a "schism" both meaningless and pointless.

It's like trying to part the Dead Sea by pissing in it.

i picked the dead sea instead of the red sea because it's saltier

I was test running how it would look to a bunch of skeptics if I promoted myself as the Antichrist.
You were promoting yourself as the Antichrist?  I honestly didn't realize that.

I guess I thought he would be taller.

March 23, 1985 is my birthday. The Spring Equinox, to symbolize the rebirth of the Sun / Son of God.
The Spring Equinox in 1985 was on March 20th.  You were three days late.

Quote
The individual that requested I found the Individuate Church was born on the Ides of March, and was a childhood best friend of mine. [...] He's the founder of the Individuates, so he's in charge.
He asked you to found it, but then founded it himself?  What a jerk.

Quote
Since the Individuates are a Discordian cult, he is the Pope of all world religion (everyone has to be a Discordian).
Actually, the doctrine of everyone being a Pope was rescinded by Pope Autochthonous VI.  He said if everyone was a Pope, that made it a meaningless distinction.  He then went on to decree that no-one is a Pope, which is also meaningless, but saves space on his letterhead.

Banned from Facebook again.

This time? The algorithms assuming I'm suicidal and when I refused help, they locked down my account. It's amazing I still have one at this point.
My immediate reaction was "That makes no sense.  Cutting a suicidal person off from social contact would be about the worst thing they could do."

My second reaction was "Maybe someone or something decided that having suicidal people present on the platform reduces profits.  Of course it's not about preserving life. It's about the benjamins."

Then again, I'm assuming the algorithms are actually functioning to achieve some defined purpose*.  Maybe it's all chaos, and facebook is only surviving due to inertia.

*Cue audience laughter

What on Earth makes him think the GOP will get prices under control?

Well you see, conservatives in countries like England have had great success in reigning in inflation, unlike Sleepy Joe.

Because it's definitely a personal failing on the part of the US President that is driving global inflation, and not wider systemic issues.

...the US President?  I've been told that inflation is the fault of the Trudeau administration, together with the Governor of the Bank of Canada.

Reading that was like walking through a wading pool filled with packing peanuts.

If there was something of substance under all that, I couldn't find it.

I just admitted Eldora back to the board (someone tell LMNO), because it should be good for a few mean laughs.  If any mod/admin has reservations, feel free to re-ban her.  I was just hoping to offload some bile.
If that doesn't work out, maybe you could temp-unban RWHN ?  I haven't had anything to gnaw on around here in a while, and my canines have grown out to the point that people are starting to notice.

Out of the blue, a utility informed me they required an easement, and sent me a contract to sign.  (This easement would have been on a scrap of farmland in the middle of nowhere).

The offer in the contract was for service which they were already providing.  Since past consideration is not good consideration, I drew this to their attention, and suggested they might run their line elsewhere.  I then prepared myself for battle by reviewing the provincial statues on utility easements, land titles, and expropriations.

But to my surprise, the faceless bureaucrat that sent me the contract apparently doesn't know what "consideration" means.

Things sort of went downhill from there, with said bureaucrat demonstrating they had no clue in the domains of negotiation or persuasion (let alone property law), and me expressing my disinterest as tersely as possible.  (They didn't even think to offer me $1, not that that would have improved my mood.)

Anyway, I think the lesson I was supposed to learn is that the Authorities know what's Best for Everyone, so being Anti-Authoritarian is the same as being Anti-Social.

But can I be blamed if I'm not inclined to donate property rights to the benefit of some multi-millionaire (probably) who wants to build a country house?

P.S.
Apparently they can still run the line somewhere else, it will just cost them more.  I'm okay with that.

Thanks for posting that, it's a good read.

Quote from: Kate, Campground Manager
This is why I liked the old sheriff. He took care of things. While I relied on rituals and appeasements, he believed in assault rifles and gasoline. And sure, gunfire isnít going to kill everything - or most things, if weíre being honest - but nothing, human or otherwise, likes being shot. Itíd knock a lot of things down and after that, well, thatís what the gasoline is for.

I feel ya.  Everything around me - outside of my family - has turned into absolute shitburgers and I'm okay with cenobites and nuclear warfare.

Just like the weak ass-excuse for a plague we got, the nuclear war is going to be a fizzle.  The Russians will lob a "best used before 1986" tactical warhead, and it will make a bit of a mess, but mostly it will just piss everyone off.

I wouldn't plan any trips to Kherson, though.  "Evacuating civilians"?  Sounds like Putin is planning to wipe it off the map (by nuke, or otherwise).

I wonder how North Korea feels about all this.  Nuclear power was supposed to be their wildcard, but Russia has nukes, and they're losing a war.
