I'm.... well, back!
Not that anyone cares (or even remembers), I know!
I was a relatively active member of this forum in 2010 and kind of disappeared then (again, not that I think it was noticed, lol). At the time I was going through a lot of stuff and PD was the perfect place for me to be. At the time I left new things started to happen and I decided to focus on my new projects and goals. I graduated in Gastronomy and used to work kitchen chef/restaurant manager, which prove to be really shitty in so many ways, so I just started anew as a translator. It worked out and I managed to finally leave the huge disgusting city I lived in and moved in to the countryside with my new gf (who is awesome).
The main reason I left PD was that it seemed to require too much attention. This forum is so lively that skipping a day involved a huge amount of reading to catch up with everything, and I wanted to know what was going on, as well as all the back reading required to understand some of the jokes (will never forget the Orange Eating Contest post).
However, I missed it. Never again have I found a forum where people had so much freedom to be and say what they wanted, but also were so close (even when most had never actually met each other). So, today I decided to see if it still existed. Then I proceeded to see if the same people were active, and they WERE, and that is saying something.
I don't remember many after all this time. I remember Cramulus, of course, with whom I parlay'd sometimes, and Cain, and also some Doctor who had this cool picture of him with some Evil Genius glasses I want for myself to this day, among some others. If any of you sees this and don't remember me, I understand completely lol.

It seems neither got anywhere after I left, which is a shame, but if anyone would want to revive them, please be my guest. I have particular interest for MusicGASM since now I actually study at a conservatory and take music much more seriously than I already did at the time.

Well, this is it. Considering the time elapsed I thought it would be appropriate to introduce myself again.
Since I do a lot of stuff now (language teaching, Japanese course, conservatory classes, occasional translation, side projects) I decided that I would avoid being TOO participative so as to avoid losing precious time I need for everything, but I sure missed you guys, and you should notice my presence on the forums once again =)

This is such a great idea! I'm totally into making crazy videos for this for I've done insane footage before, actually we can actually use some of the one that are already done! I'll have to talk to my other friend who used to make those videos with me who is now on cinema University and has some cool ideas!

Sorry, it's been a while since last time, but I am busy doing my final project at my MBA so I have little time. The problem with this forum is that you stay away for a couple of days and there is like dozens of new stuff to read and you get lost forever, lol.

I sent my guitar to get cleaned and adjusted to a new gauge (.10) and will get it back next week. Then I will be able to collaborate with the project per se. Do we have something interesting already? Where are you posting the stuff by the way?

PS: Yeah, I was rubbing the chub some days ago, but not anymore. lol

I would like all of your opinions on the subject of the avaliability of the google group to others. We can make it totally public, public to see but not to post (only members, appears to be the best option) and posting only by admins

I agree with the audio editing thing too. I'll download this Audacity and learn how to use it. I would like to use the guitar pro idea as well, as another possibility. Although I know that real audio recording is great for adding things on he spot, nothing beats guitar pro in the art of creating songs and sheet music so you can record it AFTER you really shaped it nicely.
Yeah, we definitely should have both projects and see how they go. If one of them seems not so cool, we just stop doing that. Also if some other idea shows itself, we should try it as well....
If I get the job I'll interview to tomorrow I'll send my guitar to some regulation, cleaning and etc and we could absolutely get started. We have more than enough people to start and show the other possible collaborators that this works!

Good to know that someone is interested in this! If you know more people down here who would like it, I would appreciate if you could point them to this thread. I that with 2 people we can already work, but the more the better!

I had another idea. Those here who play some instrument probably have or at least have heard of the Guitar Pro software. Those who have not it's a software where you can easily create sheet music and listen to it, with how many intruments you want but it also has a lot of cool tools to make acurate music for guitar players.
Since it's so easy to use such software we could do something like a collective criation of music through the use of the internet. Someone creates a part of a song (nothing big, just some riffs maybe, 1 or 2 instruments), names it (Prolapse Boogie for instance) and posts it on my new Google Group:

Then, someone else downloads the file and adds or changes what he whants, and so forth. At some moment we can all decide that it is finished so i'll make a backup copy of the history of teh song (each of the previous files) and leave the final version, so that it doesn't take up much space.
It doens't have to end there! Us who have recording devices (having or not a band) can record themselves playing the songs or part of the songs and post there also! Maybe, if someone here knows how to use cakewalk or whatever, different people could record parts of the song and them it can all be mixed into one file.
How I thought it can be organized:

• As to the software: all os the participants should use the latest software (5.2), because it makes more sense for people to upgrade than to the ones who have the latest to uninstall it and install some earlier version, obviously. Those of you who don't have it, PM me and I can tell you where to....uhum..."buy" it
  
• As to the creation: Someone who plays the guitar can make guitar parts and someone who plays drums can make the percussion. Or the other way around! Doing that we will have a crappy guitar piece with horrible percussion so it will be awesome as well (no sarcasm here)!
  
  • As to the file name : Should maintain the name of the song, plus the number of the version and who altered it, for example "Prolapse Boogie_2_LordOfganza"
    
  • As to the posting: I still don't know if I should allow anyone to just post there because it might turn into a huge mess, So i thought of leaving the group public for viewing but only I will be able to post. With this, people could send me the files by email and I would organize them neatly over there.

I'm still confused if lock the group and ask the interested party to become member, but it sounds fun to let it open so that the non participants can join in on the fun by listening to the files.

Maybe if there could be an element of 3-D mail without actually mailing the physical camera around?

Everyone involved in the project provides their mailing address (we might have to set up a semi-private method of doing this, although obviously everyone involved is accepting the risk), and someone takes on the responsibility of getting the ball rolling.

They do their own text, images, whatever, and post those online. Then they print it out (as much as they can given their personal printing capabilities; obviously the digital copies are online for perusal if someone lacks good-quality color printing), and mail the paper to someone on the mailing list without revealing who online.

When the person receives the letter, they get all excited as fuck and post online "HOLY SHIT YOU GUYS I GOT THE LETTER THAT MEANS IT'S MY TURN" and then they add their own stuff. Write a little blurb, a full article, draw a doodle or diagram, take a picture or three, whatever, and post it online. Then they print out whatever seems reasonable to print, and mail that to someone else on the list without revealing who online.

The idea here is to make this fun little activity where everyone who receives the letter gets all psyched and it becomes a game of Collaborative Discordian Hot Potato. Rather than trying to mobilize a dozen spags at once (which, as we all know, is a pain in the butt), only one person at a time has to do something, and everyone else gets to have fun watching while still being a part of it.

I'm thinking that this creates the dual benefits of the ease of online collaboration with the sense of fun that is inherent in receiving a piece of snail-mail that isn't a bill or credit card offer.

And Cramulus, I understand completely what you mean, and agree that for graphic stuff email is much easier. We could also make an E-mail GASM and at each project decide to which one it would go. My point is that I always looked at the changing of point of view and the way of doing things as a  key thing in Discordianism. When everyone thought that religions and beliefs should be praised in specific places, temples, and gatherings of a lot of people, the Discordians proved that you could do the opposite. When other beliefs said that people who follow it should stick together, Discordians proved that it could also be the other way around.  Having a community on the internet proves that we don't need any "real" place to meet and exchange ideas and can still have a community that interacts frequently. This also contradicts the discordians way of sticking apart all the time. So it seems that we break other peoples concepts all of the time and also our own, and thats great!
I realise that with the internet making everything easier we kind of got addicted by it and it would be a change of pace and also very discordian to mail stuff to each other when we could just as much be exchanging e-mails, and that's the fun part. Again, just my opinion.

Yeah, maybe you are right, the camera idea may prove itself cumbersome. My abilities are more electronic too (photoshop etc..)  but I still think it would be nice to be in contact with something physical now and then. Of course I don't mean that electronic documents are less real or less important, it's just a change of pace.
And I'm aware that people HAVE met each other even when from different continents. What I meant is that I, for example, rarely have the money to do that, eager to do that though I am (like to make a tour around the USA that I know so little and meet the peers on the way). And to make some "whatever" with real signatures or contributions sound nice, like once in many months. Again, maybe we all have to ruminate on what sorts of things would get more this way than through electronic ways...

A cheap disposable camera would work too.  Person A snaps a few pictures, mails it to the next guy, and when the camera is full the last person gets it developed and posts the images here.

Yeah, this could work also, but those cameras usually don't take more than 20 or so pictures so it wouldn't work to send to a lot of people. When it got to the 3rd person they would have to buy another one. In time the digital onw would prove much cheaper and it enables  each person to take as many pics as he wants and choose afterwards without losing the camera.

it's a lot easier to mail photos digitally than it is to ship a digital camera - is there a reason you'd want to work purely offline? it will be more costly, and there's a chance the project could get bottlenecked by one person who doesn't bother to mail stuff along.

The reason of woriking offline is that you are really handling discordian material, wich other discordians also used. In a situation like the one you mentioned of years ago, you would REALLY have the paper in your hands, and would know that a lot of other discordians around the globe had it first, so it would be like handling a sacred document instead of just looking at some pic of what someone did sometime and thats it. In the camera idea, each person could customise the camera with a sticker or whatever and it would become a true discordian Relic! I think that when you really interact with the physical object there are a lot of phycological factors that make that waaay cooler. Also I think that that kind of REAL people interaction can help discordians get a little closer as it would be unlikely to set up real life meeting when there are people in all continents.
Anyway, this is only my humble opinios, let's discuss this more.

Thanks to a post from Risus, I though of tis GASM. It would be a way for discordians to work together on a project without using the internet as a mediator, so it would really feel like everybody was ding it togethe, exactly because of the usage of material means instead of electronic ones.
The main idea is to use the mail service to get Discordians around the world to help with "whatever".
The inicial idea is to send a digital camera around, here is my original post in Apple Talk:

I think that the camera should have like a 2gb flash card and the people involved should be chosen first (so only thrustworthy people who wouldn't STEAL the camera would be part of it, lol), so each one who received would know the adress he should send next. Each person stays with the camera for 1 week. Also there should be a paper sent with the camera for the person to mark the numbers of the pictures he/she took and the city he's/she's in.
Then there could be an Intermittens special edition with the best pictures.
I know it sounds far-fetched because people could take photos themselves and send them here, but it would be funnier to actually have THE camera every one else used.
I would do this myself but the only camera I have available belongs to my father and he would never let me send it to random psycopathic people.....besides that I can't buy a new one just for that because here it costs like three times the price here in Brazil.
I'm pretty sure that you can find an OK digital camera for about.. 30 bucks or so, am I right?"

Of course that to avoid making a list of adresses that would expose a lot of people. Each person should PM the one he would send the "whatever" to and get the adress (without knowing if it is from his/her house, work, etc).
I don't know, it is really simple and maybe just stupid, but I would glady participate in things like this.
