MysticWicks endorsement: ""Oooh, I'm a Discordian! I can do whatever I want! Which means I can just SAY I'm a pagan but I never bother doing rituals or studying any kind of sacred texts or developing a relationship with deity, etc! I can go around and not be Christian, but I won't quite be anything else either because I just can't commit and I can't be ARSED to commit!"

I think that is a german thing. The 25.12, 26.12 and 1.1 are bank holidays, add the weekends and you only need a few vacation days to get 9 days of. Some companies, e.g. my current one, make this vacation mandatory.
"Between the years" comes from the christian church, the church year ends with christmas and starts with the three holy kings day (however that is translated to english), but is currently mostly used for this one week between christmas and first of january.

I have found the time to order my thoughts. Here is why I wrote St. Tibs day isn't real:

QuoteDoes St. Tibbs day exist?

Recently this non-existence was claimed by me. It wasn't my intention, but since I didn't formulate this idea clearly and couldn't remember where it came from, our congregation understood it as me doubting and disavowing the existence of St. Tibs and their day.
Thus, our revered Brother Mythos consulted the scripture and gave proof of the existence. But in my Brain there was still this ambivalence of the (self-)percieved non-existence and the existence of the acutal day on which we wish a tippling St. Tibs day.
This text is hopefully a clear enough explanation of my feelings that you can understand why I uttered such seemingly nonsenical sentences.
In my mind, St. Tibs day is not as real as other days. It is more akin to the days "between the years" (24.12 to 1.1) as they are called in my region of the world. A time where everything slows and shuts down. Nothing major is happening, no work, no politics, no events.
Time, which is spent slouching on a couch, meeting (extended) familiy or friends, eating, a lot of eating. The world gets back up to speed after the new year starts.
St Tibs day is related to the "between the years", but not the same. There is no slowdown, no sudden stopping, it is more of a hiccup, an extrasystole, a step on a staircase that is slightly higher than the rest.
It is real, but is it fully real? Or a wrench thrown into our perfectly rotating calendars?
Every Month has exactly the same amount of days, a year is divided evenly by the number of weeks, every day of a month is on the same day of the week each year.
Everything fits, except for St. Tibs day.
Every 4th year, but then we ignore every 25th St. Tibs day, except we unignore every fourth of these ignored days. The discordian calendar solves this issue by inserting a day bewteen the 59th and 60th day of the Season of Chaos. So the day is in the Season of Chaos, but it is neither the 59th day -it happens after it- nor the 60th day - it is already over by this time.
It exists in the unreal time "between the days".

I tried to look it up. But apparently I was misremembering things. I always assumed St. Tibs day was something like "between the years". Days that exist in reality but not really, since they aren't available for scheduling meetings, dates,...
That means I have to write something about this just so I can reference it.

Or Kill Me / Re: Time to switch sides

Too early. Once had to wake up at that time-2m to go to work. Then drove a catholic priest to Italy. His underlings inspected the car the day before and payed in cash. Definitely no shady business.
The retirement home had nice peaches from their garden and home made prosciutto. Never tasted better versions of these.

Isn't it also written, that St. Tib's Day doesn't exist? Like, the day happens, but nothing is happening and it could have been just a dream.
That tidbit (I like this spelling more, it's nearly symmetrical) really created some trouble for me when I was coding a Calendar for Android.

Apple Talk / Re: So this is us. This is how we live now.

Glad you found a nice place. I'm also fine currently.

Had to move a year ago because rent was getting high (>60% of my income after taxes etc..).
Am now living in a smaller flat in a smaller town. Landlord is a "Genossenschaft" (online translators tell me the correct translation is cooperative (society)/collective. "Genosse" means comrade, so maybe comradeship). It means the Genossenschaft owns the flats, but also only consists of all the renters. So, the rents are just high enough to pay for staff and upkeep, no profit for some investment company.

Also I've defended my PhD last Thursday. Finally finished that chapter.

He was an University Professor in Ingolstadt, but they fired him because he argued multiple times, that the university library should have the book Dictionnaire Historique et Critique. Which was deemed "ungodly" by the rector "Order to the University of Ingolstadt to preserve the pure Catholic faith".

This headline is breaking my brain. I should smoke some chemtrails to understand it.

"If you don't vote, you vote for the Nazis." - German proverb.

Yes, no political party fully supports my views, but some of them want to kill/deport/silence/suppress people I like. So I vote for a party that doesn't want this.

I like both. Nicely put into words and shape. Like those "deep" motivational quotes, but actually thought-provoking and relatable.
I know people who have seen shit (Military, Medical, "This was where I got my first PTSD") and can work in bad situations, have fetishes, BDSM, like Horror/Fear... and I saw them in normal situations where those people suddenly froze.
Being around dead people, fine. Hit by whips, fine. Abandoned in a pitch black space without an exit, fine. But eating a doughnut with a mushy consistency? Smelling burned ham? Getting cream in your skin? Hearing a certain ring tone?
Utterly unable to do anything.

I also have some insights about this revealed to me in a dream.

Toast your toast before buttering it.

or

Mix eggs (without the shell) with milk and soak toast in it, then bake soggy toast in a pan. Use the cinnamon-sugar mixture described in the first post.

Original Thought - what is it and why do we yearn for it?

Throughout our day, we consume plenty of ideas, thoughts, phrases, stories, sketches, pictures, always on the lookout for something new. For something "original". Most stuff we have seen before. Retellings of a joke we have heard many times, a cover from a song from our childhood (which was already a cover), well-worn thropes like enemy-to-lover, but now one of them is a werewolf the other a faun and, surprise!, one decends from royalty. We gladly consume these remixes, retellings, reuses, reproductions of what already was.
Until, we reach the point of déjà-vu. The joyous consumption collapses. We know how it will continue, the next plot twist, the punchline, the murderer is obviously the gardener, the chord progression is clear, our thoughts are faster than the speed of consumption, we get restless and bored.
Now we mourn the past where everything was new to us, unheard songs, unread stories, uneaten food, unviewed paintings, unplayed games, unexplored places. The curse of memory, reminding us, that change happens only gradually, that everything builds upon what exists, that "the thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun." (KJV Ecclesiastes 1:9), everything is a remix.
In this depression we start to yearn for the seemingly unatainable "OG Content". But is it unatainable? Some major religions say so, Discordianism gives no clear answer (as usual). Secondly, do we really need new content or is it enough to have reurgitations of things we don't know? We can't discriminate these two. From a purely subjective persective both are completly new and unheard of. Does it matter?
Let's take a step back and look at Eris. Isn't She gorgeous, encompasing all original, new and unheard things, constanlty birthing new ideas. If we try to glance at Her we might gain such a new idea and if we are sufficently aware and able, we might put it down for others to enjoy. In this process we gain an understanding of Eris, but also of Aneris, since everything new that is introduced to us, stops being a part of Eris and becomes part of Aneris. It is no longer a chaotic idea, instead it gained form and structure.
Should we therefore stop reaching for new Chaos? For it will inevitably cease to be a part of our Goddess Eris. I say: Maybe, but no. Eris is our Goddess, but Aneris is Her sister, somthing like our Goddess-in-Law or whatever. Bringing the Unheard into our world doesn't harm Eris and helps Aneris to flourish. Further, we, on a personal level, gain slivers of understanding about Eris, in this brief time between conception of the thought and it's materialization.
This is what we as Discordians should strive for. Finding the New, the Unheard, the Unseen, the Unthought. It does not matter how small, inconsequential or disregarded this thought will be. It is not about utility for humankind, but the thoughts we had along the way.
Just kidding, we all want fame, money and a good retirement plan.

Hail Eris! All Hail Discordia!

I should start using this argumentation for all these "christian love" commenters spreading the gospel of: Jesus loves you, but you will burn in hell for eternity.
