This is a world of force. We're edging away from that but it has always been about force. It will be about force for as long as we solve problems with ballistics. To argue otherwise is to be a victim, and who wants that? This world is hard, lonely, fucked up, and you take whatever you can get from it, because it only gets worse from here. One day, you're going to get older, and waste away and die. Nobody is going to remember Alexis the graceful soul but they will never forget Alexis the horrific savage.
Needs MOAR angst.

Beau of the Fifth Column has besn a fave of mine for a while. He's a nearly seraphic straight shooter and fine analyst. This is more on the subject of WHY a military coup is unlikley in the extreme. Kinda put my mind at ease a bit. Not a lot. Just enough to take the edge off slightly.

I've been hoping for a while that one of his generals would just snap his neck. I mean, I didn't have much hope that would happen, but it's a nice thought.
That would be a coup. Not the worst possible thing, but still not great.

I want to share a quote from a friend at this point, because I think it gets to the essence of this wierd moment:QuoteBefore the election I thought that was going to be the playbook.
But it seems that DJT simply cannot focus enough to run that game. He would have to say They Betrayed Democracy, but he does not care about democracy so it just comes out as They Tried To Cheat Me, which is not the same.
I was relieved when Fox News refused to play along. It seemed to me that they and the Republicans saw this as a fight that DJT would likely lose, and gambling on that was too dangerous for them; backing T personally to the hilt leaves them compromised if T loses.
But I misjudged the cowardice of the Republican Party. Most Republican electeds are trying to ride out this interval without either throwing fully behind Trump OR conceding to Biden.
And while Team Trump ARE fully playing along with Maximum Leader, they cannot lead from below, which means they cannot set up the They Betrayed Democracy story from their end; it has to come from the man himself. Nor does it seem that all the brownshirts out there itching for a fight have the ability to act decisively and get ahead of the President.
But this weird in-between state cannot last forever. Somebody is going to make a move and we are going to be all the way in the churn.

"There will be a smooth transition to a second Trump administration," Pompeo said during a news conference Tuesday afternoon.
When pressed on whether he and his department are preparing to hand over power to President-elect Biden and his team, Pompeo, who at times grew irritated at the questions, made it clear he didn't see the contest as having concluded. At one point, he referred to the importance of counting "every legal vote" — phrasing other Trump allies have used to suggest without evidence that widespread voter fraud helped Biden.

They're very much waiting to see what Trump does. He might stick to the legal challenges and the cries of fraud even after defeat - he might even declare that he will remain President until 2024.
But if he runs off to Saudi Arabia while they start a revolt, they're gonna look like idiots.
