I just don't understand any kind of absolute egalitarianism philosophy. Whether it's branded as anarcho-capitalism or straight anarchism or sockfucking libertarianism, it always misses the same point.

Bring and Brag / Midnight rodeo
January 05, 2011, 04:18:30 AM
The day was starting out in the most odd way possible.  I had just jolted out of a deep sleep, to discover myself pinned to the bed, sweating.  It was back.  Last time the... creature... had found me, it was when I was hiding on the golf course out by the lake.  It had come to me, roused me out of my hiding place, and informed me in no uncertain terms its intent to play through.  What a dick.  And now, here, on my chest, grinning down at me.  I could smell its breath.  I was fairly certain it was German.

"What is the meaning of this!", I roared.  At least, I tried to roar.  It was more of a squeak.  The creature grinned at me, its revolting lips curling up into some caricature of a sneer.  It leaned back, and chortled.  The situation was still not making any sense to me.  I attempted to sit up, and suddenly discovered I was alone in the room.  No poof, no sound, just.. no creature, as if it was some bad cut of an old Hollywood movie.  I mopped at my brow, and surveyed the the room in the dirty light.  My shoes were missing.

Not again.

Apple Talk / ITT BAD jokes.
March 12, 2010, 05:40:18 AM
So, Larry Lobster dies and goes to heaven.  He's given a harp, a halo, and some wings.  He petitions St Peter to be allowed to go back to earth for one more day, as his good friend Sam Clam is opening a club.

St Peter says it is OK, but he needs to be careful not to loose his things he just got.

So, he goes back, there is a tearful reunion, and then party all night at the new club.  the next day, he goes back to heaven.

St Peter says, 'did you bring your stuff?' Larry Lobster checks... halo, check!  wings... check!  harp?  oh no!

St Peter says, 'what happened to your harp?'

Larry Lobster replies, 'i left my harp in sam clam's disco'

Or Kill Me / Irrationally upset over 4 cents
March 10, 2010, 05:58:42 AM
The pickup was out of go-juice today, so I stopped by the station to fuel up.  Upon completing the fuel up, I dutifully entered the fuel info into my little phone app because that's just the sort of nerd I am.

And then I found it.

I was overcharged 4 cents!  I triple checked my numbers, but there was no mistake... there was 4 more cents on the pump than what it should have been.  I debated going inside and yelling, or sending an angry email to the gas company, or something, but in the end, I settled for a lame rant on PD and a bunch of cussing.

However, in retrospect, it leaves me curious about why 4 cents has upset me so.  Grrr.

I have no idea what it says, though I am told it is some kind of Russian ground effect plane, but man... love the photos:

I'd really like to spend some time with the designers and a translator to see what it was that went through their heads to end up with such a beast.  I was a bit disappointed that there was only one interior shot :(

I really like old aircraft for some reason...

So, I guess it is official, Apple is either re-entering the tablet market with a huge iPhone, or is now producing feminine hygiene products.  I don't know which is better for the company from this vantage angle..

This has got to be the funniest thing I have read all day:

If the guy is serious, well... that would just be even funnier.

Or Kill Me / Retarded programmers
January 20, 2010, 05:22:01 AM
After wasting most of the last few days on stupid little configuration issues, I have come to the conclusion that programmers in general are either lazy ("it worked for me"), or just too damn clever for their own good ("this is the most perfect solution").  Not to say I have not fallen into one of these traps myself, but you would think a peer reviewed, group designed software project would manage to have one member who was not pumping out the same shit as everyone else.

Is a little documentation so hard?  And no, your random-ass 'clever' code is not self documenting if it takes me an hour to puzzle out how you are using some edge condition of a register to accomplish your smug programming challenge.

Gah.
