Bones and Hat got delayed, because I spilled shit all over their letters and had to reprint them.

But Bones lives in Australia, and hasn't posted here in ages anyway, so I'm not sure he's even still interested.

I still lurk now and then, and remain very interested in any bizarre undertakings of the pd crazies. Just been in some kind of rut recently, and only found this thread TODAY! I've been meaning to post you something back since MSY#1, Dok, and will definitely knock something worthy out in return for more horror! :D

Thanks, guys. :)

I haven't had much time for lurking PD lately, so I feel it's a bit rude of me to keep bumping this thread.
I'm glad if people enjoy it though, and I'll probably post some more pics sometime, too.

OFUK! :mittens:

It CAME today! This is a delightfully amusing (and creepy as fuck) publication. Couldn't put it down until I read cover-to-cover.

Thanks, Dok! I will definitely be in for the whole series. Also, I think I owe you a couple bucks extra for the postage. I'll just lump it in with payment for #2 if that's ok?

RAH!

Vietnam is so beautiful.

I think Dok should spare it when he blows up the earf.

I would spend every minute wondering if any of my friends or family were still there. I would wonder where they died. I would wonder where the pieces they came back without were. Some memories just don't die Rog. You of all people know I am not a right wingnut. But in this I would never set foot in that country. Ever. Those 'cool' tunnels harbored soldiers that killed Americans. They hid supplies and weapons in them. They were booby trapped.
Do you know how they checked those tunnels out in the 'police action'? The smallest guy was held by his feet and lowered in head first with a .45 pistol. Fun times. Maybe I better just leave this thread.

I am glad you enjoyed your trip.

Thanks Hawk,

I am sorry to bring up painful memories, no threadjack.
Soldiers killing soldiers though. You can't hold it against them, we invaded their country. No American civilians were killed, right?
The rudimentary booby traps they built were horrible, but effective, and they didn't have much choice. I, for one, was taking notes in case any poor bastard is ever duped into invading my home one day, and into believing I am his enemy.

I know it is understandably a topic of much grief to many Americans, that war is a horrible little stain on our history. Honestly, I wanted to see what reactions this thread would get from everyone here, because real, honest, bare human emotions are beautiful, Hawk. I certainly don't deserve an apology from you. I should instead thank you for expressing yourself in my thread, or maybe I should be the one apologising for bringing it up. I can't even imagine what it's like to lose friends or relatives in a war, so it's pretty unfair and horrible for me to force the topic on those that have.

Traffic was getting pretty heavy a lot leading up to tet. Vietnam has 84 million people and 10 million scooters. There seem to be pretty much no road rules, but no one really goes above about 40kmph, except on highways. Saw a few people come off their bikes, everyone stops, picks them up and helps out.

The streets everywhere were amazingly decorated for the new year.

Here's me testing out a secret entrance to the VC tunnels:

Unfortunately no pic of the hidden entrance. It was pretty flawless.

Glad to be out of the traffic jam:

Ha Long Bay. This place is amazing. World Heritage Site. 1500km2 with 2000 tiny limestone islands. It was humid but misty and awesome.

Thanks for the info + good tips anyway.

The only thing that irritates me about this (I can't say I give a shit about a single parachuting rat, or even Banksy, though he's done some cool shit) is that they paint a flat colour over "artworks" to "clean up" the dirty streets.

News flash, arseholes! A paint job doesn't stop the rats from scampering around! Graffiti is useful because it lets you know what kind of neighbourhood you're in. It is really pathetic when there is a concrete wall painted grey to cover old graffiti but covered again in nasty tags anyway.

They did apologise...

It's on, June extended long weekend 10th-14th in northern NSW.

I think you have to set up some kind of awesome camp and get approved before you can get tickets? A friend of mine is gonna set up some kind of little stage for some music performance and film showing, but IMO there needs to be a Discordian presence.

Any ideas???

Oh dear, sorry for how totally retarded I am. Will start posting some pics now...

Here are some typical (!) Vietnamese powerlines. Im sure I've got better photes but I've got thousands to whiskey through.

The Holy See of the Cao Dai religion was cool! Unfortunately our tour guide was more of a tourist himself, taking photos and not really understanding our questions.

Having understood little about Cao Dai at the time, it seemed to me to be quite a cool idea that they mixed together their fueding religions (Buddhism, Taoism, even Christianity) to make The One True Religiontm
Kinda Discordian?

Quote from: WikipediaAccording to Cao Dai, before God existed, there was the Tao, the nameless, formless, unchanging, eternal source referenced in the Tao Te Ching. Then, a Big Bang occurred, out of which God was born (emanationism). The universe could not yet be formed and to do so, God created yin and yang. He took control of yang and shed a part of himself, creating the Goddess to preside over yin. In the presence of yin and yang, the universe was materialized. The Goddess is, literally, the mother of the myriad of things in the Universe. Thus, Caodaiists worship not only God, the father, but also the Goddess, literally referred to as the Mother Buddha. Note that God's importance and role is higher than that of the Mother Buddha. Also, the Mother Buddha, as are all buddhas, is a part of Yang, and therefore, is male. Yin is the female side, and the Mother Buddha only oversees Yin, but is not a part of Yin.

There are 36 levels of heaven and 72 planets harboring intelligent life, with number one being the closest to heaven and 72 nearest to Hell. Earth is number 68. It is said that even the lowest citizen on planet 67 would not trade place with a king on 68 and so forth.

They only have three saints (according to the strictest interpretations) and Victor Hugo is one of them.

Heh.

I find it delightfully amusing that Australian tourists are allowed to Vietnam and Americans aren't.

Is that their rules, or ours?

Their's from what I understand.

Can't say I blame them.  We killed a few million of them because France whimpered after WWII.

Not to mention we sorta, you know, destroyed a lot of their countryside.

Those are just "freedom regions", Suu.  You can tell, from all the "Liberty Cancers" the children have.

ouch, yeah. I was having breakfast the other day and a guy wheeled his son past in a barrow. Kid was lying there with a head about twice the size of mine, though he looked like he was about twelve. Could've been much older, I guess. Certainly wouldn't assume deformity that serious is limited to the head.

Vietnam, oddly, is one of the places I'd actually like to go see.
Along with Italy, Rome, Japan, most of Europe and many others.
Nothing odd, this place is stunning.

Sucks about the food poisoning. :( Vietnamese food rocks when they're not trying to kill you.
I didn't get it too bad. Only lasted one day at it's worst, and after three days I'm pretty much all better. I was vomiting and crapping at the same time for a few hours though..
And yes, the food is totally awesome. We spent one night on a junk boat up north. Place called Halong Bay. On our own private boat for about 20 hours, with about 6 crew to our family of 8 + a baby and a local tour guide. We were fed 4 meals in that time, averaging 9 courses each. No shit.
There will be pics. Soon.
