Quote from: ein Gefrorener Würfel on March 20, 2024, 09:38:20 PMI concur. US politics is special. Your "the winner takes it all"-voting system truly has a lot of undemocratic consequences. The biggest, I think, is the two-party system and the extremely unhinged pre-vote period/year.

Yes, our type of republic is different, and problematic. We were taught that our founding fathers didn't chose a parliamentary system because they wanted a clear separation of governmental powers, with an executive branch, a legislative branch, and a judicial branch, with all three branches acting as checks and balances on each other. And, although far from perfect, our system did work moderately well in the 20th century, before today's hyper-partisan, no compromise era.

And, although it may look like it, our two-party system is not written into our republic's constitution. There are currently four (4) registered political parties in my state. And, Mrs. Mythos and I are both registered to vote in our general elections as "non affiliated." (All that means in our state is that we can't vote in the primary elections of any of the four (4) registered political parties. For the little that it's worth, our not joining a registered political party is a protest, as our state's primary elections are held so late in the year that all of the party candidates for president and vice-president have already been chosen by voters in the other states that held their primary elections much earlier.)

Quote from: ein Gefrorener Würfel on March 20, 2024, 09:27:03 PMThere are Songs/musical pieces of any kind which are exceptional. Which is more influential/important/significant/good* Purple Haze or Bach's Toccata und Fuge in d-Moll (BWV 565)?
People have opinions, but who knows? (I don't care. Good music is good music)

*whatever that means

I agree, there is a lot of exceptional music out there. And, I do listen to more than just rock 'n' roll.

For what it's worth, the choices I make for my posts in this thread are subjective. But, I'm not attempting to post something in this thread every day. And, I'm not attempting to post about significant events that have occurred on most days of the year. I simply, occasionally post about stuff I have an interest in, and/or find amusing.

Anyway, rock 'n' roll is the musical genre I most identified with as a boy, and I still enjoy it today. When discussing the "comparative status" of rock 'n' roll artists, I reserve the title of Rock God for only the very best. And, I also admit, my opinions about who are "the very best" are highly subjective. But, somewhat similar to the attitude of our former First Escort Lady Melania Trump, I really don't care all that much if people disagree with my opinions about rock 'n' roll, because the discussions themselves are usually fun.

So, if there's any "stuff" you are particularly interest in, and/or find amusing, and that can be tied to an "On This Day in History" date, you're more than welcome to post your own "stuff" in this thread.

You may also want to consider posting about the music you enjoy listening to in this thread:    Suu demands to know what you are listening to!

Suu hasn't been active on this forum for some time, but the thread continues to limp on with minimal participation.

I don't like this. I don't like this reality at all.
How can we help? Can we help? We can, I think!
I have a couch. But in Germany, I could provide money for a flight (I think, not that much money but it should be possible) and residence on my couch. But I don't have influence/money to get you a job (also no idea about bureaucratic stuff)

Here is the link to the scientific study behind this:
https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-024-54874-4.pdf

Python meat consists of 51% Proteins and you have to feed them just 2.4 times of this amount of protein (they don't eat plants so you would have to consider the amount of protein you had to feed to the animals you feed to your pythons). This is better than Beef (for 83g protein in feed (only plants) 1g protein in beef).

An interesting part is that snakes don't spend so much of their energy on heat production/controll, so the meat producer can substitute this with other forms of energy like electricity generated from the sun.

But of course, compared to Plants...(1g of plant protein is 1g of protein for us)

"Snakes: The new, high-protein superfood"

"Pythons are a low-emission, climate-resilient food source, converting feed to protein better than chickens or cattle, new research has found."

As per this article:

"Farmed pythons may offer a sustainable and efficient new form of livestock to boost food security, according to new research from Macquarie University.

A study in two Southeast Asian commercial python farms led by Honorary Research Fellow Dr Daniel Natusch from the School of Natural Sciences, found pythons convert feed into weight gain remarkably efficiently compared with conventional livestock such as chickens and cattle.

"In terms of food and protein conversion ratios, pythons outperform all mainstream agricultural species studied to date," Dr Natusch says.

"We found pythons grew rapidly to reach 'slaughter weight' within their first year after hatching."

Snake meat is white and very high in protein, Dr Natusch says."

Well ... okay ... but, I do have some questions. First of all, what was the old high-protein superfood? Do python farmers/ranchers brand their livestock? And, how do the PETA people feel about this whole python farming/ranching thing? And, most importantly, is it true that python tastes like chicken? And, how is python served anyway? Will Python McNuggets® be on the menu? Will a special sauce be concocted just for python? Will wearing python leather boots then be considered "Green Fashion", or even become haute couture? I could go on, but you get the idea.

Quote from: Brother Mythos on March 19, 2024, 04:16:16 PMYes, I saw that! Was that place the inspiration for your yellow submarine, or was it just a coincidence?

Mostly a coincidence, but I guess a somewhat expected one, since both are ultimately/presumably references to the Beatles' Liverpudlian roots!

The Lost Doctor is embodied by legendary actor and theater producer Ken Campbell, who put on a massively successful theatrical version of the Illuminatus! Trilogy, originally staged in Liverpool.
The yellow submarine being exhumed is Hagbard Celine's from the trilogy, which is originally a reference to the Beatles' Yellow Submarine.  :fnord:  :fnord:  :fnord:

Update. Been sitting on this for about one week, because it sucks.

The COVID I got because Wal-Mart infected my live-in partner (well. more on that soon) demolished my health. I have long COVID. I went from "mildly disabled" to "most days, drinking water or rinsing a dish is too hard".

My live-in partner is now my ex. We are dying of poverty, and we will both be homeless if I don't leave in May. I don't want her to be on the streets, so I will in fact go.

I have no next steps left. Everyone has run out of the ability to help, and they can't even hope I could potentially contribute or become self-sufficient now, because I'm too broken. It's the last stop: some place in Wisconsin.

I have until May, plus change for however long I manage to scrabble out survival before COVID, cops or starvation catch up with me.

I forget if I owed anyone here anything. If I did, let me know. I can't promise I'll get to it, but I can promise I'll try.
