It's funny how the position for boot-licking is so close to the one used for curb-stomping.

I put up a couple today that read:

not one of us yet.

I don't believe any of this.

That's because it doesn't exist, remember?

Wow, that was the fappiest thread of them all.

I lurked in there for the first few days to see how it would develop.  Seemed to be mostly a lot of  :fap: going on.  There were some good nuggets in there though.

I've said it in another thread, but I recommend "Y: The Last Man" to anyone who is interested in graphic storytelling.  It's a really great piece of work by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra.

I'm a fan of a lot of Gaiman's work, but some of his comic efforts have fallen a bit flat since Sandman, I'll give you that.  Good Omens = best collaberation ever.

Also, Warren Ellis has a new series out this year called FreakAngels which seems interesting.  Can't say I much care for the artist (Paul Duffield--never heard of him, I believe this is his "big debut"), but it's not bad.  Maybe I'm just hard on him because I notice so many things I would have done differently as an artist, but that's another matter.

Maybe the workplace should be run on a more military model, for increased fairness.

Dammit, I was gonna riff on that.

:argh!:

Psh, go ahead.  I doubt I covered even half of the reasons that's a bad idea.

As a veteran, I can say that's a horrible idea.

In order to become the equivilant of middle management you have to go before a board where you are questioned on militaria.  Basically, if you know what regulation covers Military Courtesy, how deep a field latrine should be, and what the Army's definition of Loyalty is, you're in.  Any idiot can be promoted above you, and then they have an impact on whether you are promoted.  It's basically a good ol' boy's club.

When you DO get promoted, if you're not part of the "club" then they will do their best to make sure you are marginallized and take the fall for everything.  The chances of you surviving this phase with your rank intact are slim.  Any effort to actually be a good leader and take care of your Soldiers is usually met with hostility: especially if it shows the incompetence of other leaders.  Meanwhile, the good ol' boy's club watches each other's backs so that all the fucked up shit they pull gets blamed on someone else or brushed under the rug.

Quibbling about spelling is juvenile.  Unless you literally CAN NOT read it because of the spelling, STFU.

I don't understand any of this.  You need to clean it up and make it readable.  Where did you learn to type?  Damn!

In other news, this is a good book to read as an introduction.  Just thinking about the possibilities makes me have a quantum leap in my pants.

It's a good idea to take care of the future, just in case reverse causality is true and we create our own species in the past from the future.

Because Tina Turner is scary.

QuotePrototype personal flying vehicles using microflaps exist. They are also primarily computer-controlled.

He promised you a prototype.

As to the rest of the discussion that has come over the weekend: we've been talking about the nature of predictions, the progression of technology, and the viability of certain scientific advances.  One side (the optimistic side) says good ol' Dr. K. has at least a good idea of where we're going.  They cite where we've been and where we are now as evidence.  The pessimistic side says the optimists are too optimistic.  They cite where we've been and where we are now as evidence.

Sound like I've summed it up pretty well so far?
