The inauguration of Donald Trump was a surreal experience for pretty much everyone who witnessed it, whether or not they were at the event and regardless of who they supported in the election. On the dais, the stoic presence of Hillary Clinton — whom candidate Trump had said he would send to prison if he took office — underlined the strangeness of the moment. George W. Bush, also savaged by Trump during the campaign, was there too. He gave the same reason for attending that Bill and Hillary Clinton did: to honor the peaceful transfer of power.

Bush's endearing struggle with his poncho at the event quickly became a meme, prompting many Democrats on social media to admit that they already pined for the relative normalcy of his administration. Following Trump's short and dire speech, Bush departed the scene and never offered public comment on the ceremony.

Alien versus Aliens and Terminator versus T2 are the film world's version of debating politics and religion. 

I've only ever seen 3 movies that I actually considered scary, and Poltergeist doesn't really hold up when you watch it again now.

Play Misty For Me is my sleeper pick for HOLY FUCK TERRIFYING, possibly (probably) because of a lifetime of ignoring Rule #3.

But the scariest movie of all time? Fuck you if you don't think Aliens is some paralyzingly frightening shit. I saw that movie in the theater when it came out (I was 9 and my mom thought I was seeing some dumb kid movie) and I swear I didn't sleep with the lights off for a week. And it's the only movie that's possibly gotten even scarier as I get older because there are so many LAYERS of horror there and the best ones aren't even comprehensible to a little kid.

I've never heard of Play Misty For Me, but I'm definitely going to check it out. I'm always up for anything that might scare me. Thank you for bringing the film to my attention!

Eveery time I've heard someone mention Are You Afraid of the Dark?, the episode with the pool is always, always, ALWAYS mentioned as the one that fucked them up the most, because that was a hellaciously fucked up episode.  That show was supposed to be for kids?

I absolutely love Are You Afraid Of The Dark?. The episode that messed me up the most as a kid was the Tale of the Shiny Red Bicycle, the one about the kid's friend who got trapped in a river, drowned, and then haunted him. That episode is why I'm apprehensive around dams.

Funny enough though, a while back I watched the episode again to see if it was as scary as I remembered it, and it's actually a nice story about friendship.

Have you watched R.L. Stine's A Haunting Hour?  A lot of the episodes come close to being on the same level as AYAOTD. Some of the episodes are generic kid/teen horror, but a lot of them have fantastic/scary fridge logic that left me with the same impresion as AYAOTD, as far as not believing they'd do that in a kid's/teen's show.

The Guardian has reported that is the case:

Signs in support of Sanders were visible around the protests in Chicago on Friday night, and the senator defended the protesters. "What our supporters are doing is responding to a candidate who has in fact in many ways encouraged violence," he said.

Of course, there's a big difference between that and what Trump is claiming.

I think I prefer Trump's version of reality, that Bernie is a shadowy puppet master ordering his brownshirts to do his bidding, just because it's such a hilarious idea.  I mean we're talking about Bernie fucking Sanders here, a man with the aggressive nature of a teddy bear.  What would that scenario look like?  "Listen, my friends.  Okay.  I want you to take these government subsidized baseball bats, okay?  Go to Trump's rally and break up his supporters' kneecaps like I'm going to break up these big banks once elected!  And don't hold back, okay?  Remember that once I'm elected they'll get free healthcare so go to town on them like I'll go to town on Wall Street!"
