And that 10% difference between the center and far-right is pretty consistent along the variety of questions.

It's a strong indicator that the centre-right has been radicalised, while the far-right have somewhat moderated their position, for the most part.  That fertile "populist right" ground between the two has seen a lot of cross-pollination over the years, while at the same time the American right, of both varieties, have been forging strong links with their European counterparts.

Incidentally, the UK attitude to immigration has been terrible for decades.  I would argue up until quite recently it has been a lot worse than the US, and it's been fed by decades of tabloid fear-mongering, that since 9/11 has steadily moved into the broadsheet press (Times, Telegraph, sometimes the Guardian or Observer).   Immigration was the wedge issue on which popular anti-EU sentiment was built, as evidenced by the Brexit debate's focus on "taking back control of our border" as opposed to "this will economically ruin us all".

Even the Brazilian guy would be something.

And this is how you become a dictatorship.

Well, yes.

Oh, I know.  It's just disappointing, that it's happening at the hands of some banal, tanned egomaniac who struggles to string a coherent sentence together.  He doesn't even have good dress sense.

We could use that 400 million a week we were going to put into the NHS into repairing the same bridge, over and over again.

Also, news on the Brexit front.  Barnier has said he would be open to extending negotiations, for up to another year even.  However, May has thus far refused to mention it at the EU summit.  According to sources in the Tory party, if she was to take that deal, they would instantly move for a vote of no confidence against her, one she is of course not guaranteed to survive.

Well, it's possible, until a storm rolls in.  Then it's a very expensive mistake.

Until the bridge from Northern Ireland to Scotland is built, anyway.  You know, the one Boris Johnson promised everyone a few weeks back.  The completely impossible one from an engineering point of view.

Thanks for the advice.

I had to look up “DSA,” as I had never heard of them. Then, I remembered having accidentally met some members of the Philadelphia Chapter of the CPUSA, back in the late seventies. They were in pretty bad shape back then, as their leader was clearly suffering from what is now commonly diagnosed as dementia. It wouldn't surprise me if those people morphed into today's DSA, as no one took them seriously as Communists.

The DSA is more of an attempt to create a social democratic wing in the Democrats.  Communists hate it, because Social Democrats are insufficiently committed to Sparkle Motion the Revolution.

That said, the CPUSA is probably also still a joke.  Just not as much of a joke as the Revolutionary Communist Party, I think Bob Avakian may be actually crazy.

Looks like it is working again, sorry to disappoint.

On the plus side, this down time likely interrupted no less than 200 new Nazi/incel/Qanon videos from being uploaded.

YouTub3 just crashed; I was checking-out maze-solving algorithms. Nothing to see here.

Yeah, it got me too.  At first I thought it was my browser fucking up, so I deleted all my cookies and history....but nope.  Google fucks up again (probably)

So, the left-wing screeching about the dems has reached new levels on social media.  Apparently, if you vote to stop the redneck trash in the GOP, you are literally the next Hitler.

Do your part, America.  Shove a progressive down a manhole today.

What’s this now?

I just had - and I'm not kidding, here - some raging berner tell me that he isn't voting this year because Bernie never even got a chance to run for the ticket.

I mean, nobody did.  IT'S NOT A PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION YEAR.

I hate everyone.  I hate everyone and I demand a return of the Spanish flu.

I wish people would stop ruining the term "progressive".  I mean, it's getting to be the same reaction when I tell people I'm a Discordian -- there are far too many assholes who don't get it, giving it a bad name.

Last week, I got tired of my Republicult™ neighbor carrying on about me being a “Librul.” (I do not start political conversations with him, as they are a waste of my time.)

Now, in the not too distant past, I considered myself to be a “moderate.” But, being a moderate doesn't seem to be possible these days.

As far as political party membership goes, I am, and have been for a couple of decades, officially registered as “non-affiliated.” However, by today's standards in the era of Trump, I might as well be a Card-Carrying Communist. So, I calmly told the neighbor that I am a Communist.

He didn't believe me, so I guess I'm going to have to design and print-out a membership card. This is not over.

Remember to get a proper CPUSA one, none of that DSA nonsense.  Nothing worse than getting called out by Communists and Conservatives.

The EU, in a rare sign of foreign policy competency, actually planned for this.

While it was hoped the draft would be finalised at the EU summit happening tomorrow, they factored in the possibility of talks falling through and November being the actual final chance to negotiate something before the December EU summit.

However, that at least part of the problem is that the UK is failing to negotiate because of it's own preconditions does...not inspire confidence.

20 minutes behind the headlines:

Quote
EU leaders have scrapped plans to discuss and publish a draft declaration this week on the bloc’s future trade deal with the UK after the derailment of the talks over the Irish border, in a blow to Theresa May.

An outline of an agreement was due to be “on the table” at a summit dinner of leaders on Wednesday night, before which the prime minister is scheduled to address the 27 other EU heads of state.

Developments on Sunday, when the Brexit secretary, Dominic Raab, refused to sign off on an agreement on the Irish border, have brought the carefully choreographed plans to a halt.

Yes, a general deal should have been agreed by tomorrow's EU summit, as I recall.

Things are going to unravel from this point.
