Since my current job task requires about as much work from me as a deli-counter ticket dispenser, I've been tearing through (relative to my usual reading speed) Malazan Book 5, Midnight Tides.

Lots more Weird Sex Stuff in this book than the previous ones.

Going back to The Great Ordeal:

So, I was looking up something completely unrelated when I came across this extraordinary segment in The Thousandfold Thought, when Kellhus finally confronts his father:

QuoteFor the Dûnyain, it was axiomatic: what was compliant had to be isolated from what was unruly and intractable. Kellhus had seen it many times, wandering the labyrinth of possibilities that was the Thousandfold Thought: The Warrior-Prophet's assassination. The rise of Anasûrimbor Moënghus to take his place. The apocalyptic conspiracies. The counterfeit war against Golgotterath. The accumulation of premeditated disasters. The sacrifice of whole nations to the gluttony of the Sranc. The Three Seas crashing into char and ruin. The Gods baying like wolves at a silent gate.

Bakker, R. Scott. The Thousandfold Thought (The Prince of Nothing Book Three) (Kindle Locations 8351-8355). Little, Brown Book Group. Kindle Edition.

Which is exactly what has happened with Kellhus as Aspect Emperor.  The only thing that hasn't occured thus far is the Three Seas falling into complete ruin, and that's only because Kellhus returned in the nick of time to defeat Meppa and the Bandit Pandirajah.

So, I suppose the question is, what is Kellhus up to?  Does he accept the Consult's aims and wants to avoid being one of the Damned?  Is he perpetrating some kind of grand deception on them, to make them think he is with them, only to betray them (perhaps to obtain the Heron Spear and/or knowledge of the No God).  Or is something else entirely going on?

I need to log into this damn forum more than once a month and actually read shit.

If I'm understanding this correctly, The Thousandfold Thought means Khellus knew the Narindar would be a thing, even though Yatwer's gift to Sorweel was explicitly to make him invisible to Khellus?

So who is outwitting who? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!

So, at the new job. Nights. Horrible stuff.

I called the lady that my boss unjustly fired prior to the layoffs and asked her if she was still looking for work. I told her what the work was, and she laughed.

Then I told her what the pay was, and she stopped laughing.

So now she's employed again after 8 weeks of being out of work, making $10K more than she used to make, and I have a reliable employee who isn't afraid of anything at all.

which can be important when you're doing this kind of work in the dead of night.

I feel embarrassed that I lack the imagination to even speculate what this line of work is.

Tried a high chaos, stealth, Mostly Flesh and Steel run of Dishonored 2 as Emily Kaldwin.  Quite a different experience of the game, without powers to solve every problem.  And of course, since I was aiming for stealth (not complete ghost runs, though I got a couple of them), I couldn't just gun down problems either.

It was satisfying though, taking down witches and Clockwork Soldiers and Duke Luka Abele and Delilah without resorting to the Outsider's cheap tricks.  All crossbow, grenades, stun mines and sword, all the way.  And all those collected runes should set me up nicely for a NG+ (if it works that way).

I think it does. I finished my campaign as Emily, then started NG+ as Corvo and then suddenly had 49 runes in my pockets after getting the option to buy abilities.

I am too cowardly to play Flesh & Steel mode, but I think I'll get there one day because I like this game so damn much. Between the two characters, and the Low/High/Very High Chaos paths, there's a lot of potential for replay.

I'm in the NYC vicinity! I'm down but I also don't know many places where we might want to go. If it happens while it's still chilly we should find a venue, if it's warm I'd say we should just congregate in a park and definitely not conduct Discordian rituals.

Yalls have fun with the Discordia. I'm out. Lessons learned. Greyface wins. Good luck and good night.

Does this have anything to do with anything?  :?

Apparently Facebook has bled over into PeeDee flouncing.

There's a book out there, "Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Lessons" or some such.

My mom used it and I had a reading level that rocketed past my grade level, and my mom subsequently used it to teach a half-dozen struggling neighborhood kids to read. So I can vouch for that.

I refuse to participate on account of being ROBBED of my victory by time zones. I was robbed by TIME ITSELF.

But if y'all are gonna be fucking retards all over again then we'd best see some goddamn oldschool TRASH TALK.

Lots of people don't vote because they don't feel like its very effective, and they are right to feel that.

And that's how they get the government they deserve.   :lulz:

Now I feel a bit foolish. Of course taking the ~20 minutes to vote is worth it. It is more effective than other things you could do in that time. I should have just said that they don't feel like its effective but not said they were right to feel so. I guess I am prone to defeatism.

There were areas where it was five to seven hours. Basically, places where people had to miss a full day of work, if they even had the option, in order to vote.

I know I keep playing this fiddle, but THIS WASN'T ACCIDENTAL. This was orchestrated. Since the 2004 election, Republicans have been working furiously at local levels to close polls in poor and black areas, and to institute voter ID laws and other measures, like registration purges, to block poor and black voters, who trend strongly Democrat, from voting.

So without these laws rural/rust belt America would have voted Democrat? Do you still not understand what the electoral college is? Keep in mind, rural/rust belt America did vote Democrat for Obama twice. Very interested in your theory of how Obama won the raging white supremacist vote.

That's a very interesting way of completely not responding to what Nigel actually said.

Hey, I started out perfectly honest here, but one of you thought it was appropriate to bite me and the virus was transferred. It's a little too early to be judging my troll skills as I haven't had time to fully mutate.

Oh, wait, being prematurely judgmental is what you guys do best.

Carry on.

I wonder if I should make an "unlimited brazilian hilarity thread" if only to put everything I find in one place so I don't get lost in all the complete clusterfuck that's happening.

I'd click it.

Ron Paul's ENTIRE schtick up until this point has consisted of "Don't call us racist!"

Hows that been working out for you so far?

It seems to be an accurate predictor of your behavior.
