Is this a new thing? I can't remember another example of a state or federal government entity openly imposing sanctions against a company because of their political activity. I mean, maybe they did it before and gave some bullshit reason, but never actually just coming right out and explicitly stating "We are punishing you because we don't like your political stance. Get your politics right or suffer the consequences!"

This seems like something that someone should go to prison over.

I've never heard of it before. Seems like an awful lot of blowback for just preventing the NRA from getting discounts as a protest of, you know, what they do. Sounds like they're framing it as an attack in an act of cowardice. That's what's so surreal to me is it would seem the exact opposite to me. They're protecting their business interests and making a statement. Seems kind of brave to me considering that there could apparently be blowback from the government...

It seems like it is legal, because they're just threatening not to pass a law.

But...well, it's not a good look for Georgia.  Makes you wonder what other businesses they might target on some spurious political agenda.  That kind of thinking makes companies and investors nervous.  Makes them think about looking for more stable operating environments.

I heard rumors that movie and TV production companies were considering pulling out of Georgia if this happens, including The Walking Dead.  If true, the state would lose a ton of money.

On the other hand, The Walking Dead is terrible.

I mean, that's objectively true.  I just hate-watch it now, because I've been watching since the premier.

I gave up about half way through season 4 and fuck did I feel a blast of good old fashioned catholic guilt. I mean zombies are the nearest thing I have to a religion and fuck if I could stand to watch one more episode of Rick fucking Grimes pretending he could be a hero or act or even develop some kind of rudimentary personality or fucking anything  :argh!:

You'll notice that this didn't stop Pence in Indiana.

It's important to remember that poverty is part of these assholes base agenda, not an undesirable side effect.

Yeah, but... it's the part where the guy says out loud that he's doing it to hurt a company for political reasons. If he had just said "Gosh, we sure are disappointed in youse guise"....... also, in an unrelated note, we're not doing that thing we were going to do that would have benefited your business. THAT would have been business as usual. Most of politics seems to be sticking it to people who ignore them when they tell them how to live. It's the explicit extortion for political allegiance that's new to me. Maybe I just haven't been paying close enough attention.

It is new, and it's definitely worrying, but even with that I think they're legally sound.  But yeah, when you're being that dumb and make it explicit, it does not bode well.

Oh how I hope that happens. Can you imagine the state of Georgia reduced to an empty husk. My god it's beautiful.

It's a such a shame that all the great work William Sherman did there didn't stick.

As a former resident, I can verify whole-heartedly that the state is already pretty much at the empty husk phase. It certainly hasn't produced anything with a sense of meaningfulness and originality in years

And some of the great general's work stuck, just drive through Rabun County. I can tell you wholeheartedly that behind that Walmart facade is a writhing dying mess of cannonball shrapnel.

Atlanta should put up a monument honoring Sherman for liberating the city from the traitor Confederacy.
