Or Kill Me / Dispatch from Asshat #1 - Christmas Lights
January 04, 2005, 02:43:26 AM
Our neighbors don't mess with our stuff.  When my husband cleans his guns, he does it on the front porch.  Usually 2 at a time.

It's not so much that I get mad at people who call themselves christian calling particular things christmas decorations or traditions.  I understand that early church leaders took the traditions of the area and incorporated them into the new religion to get the people to go to the church.  This happened all over the world at various times with various religions.

I think it is funny when there is a christmas tree in a church.  I think it is funny when the pope in the vatican talks about the fir tree being a symbol of christ.  I am amused, I'll leave it to Jesus Christ to be pissed.  I don 't think this is the sort of thing he would have wanted.  Next he'll be saying easter eggs are symbols of the apostles.

QuoteTo that end, I decorated our new house with Christmas lights, just like most everyone else on our block... even though I'm a freaking Wiccan, for Gods' sakes!

Dude. You do know that lighting shit up in wintertime is a totally pagan thing to do, right? Just 'cause some asshat electrified it and slapped the word "Christmas" on it doesn't make it Christian. ;)

Like the pope, no really, the guy at the vatican, finagling the fir tree into a Christian symbol this year, that was hilarious.  He was actually trying to get people to beleive it like it was ever thus.

Holy Crap, you guys!  If I had know I was going to think so hard I wouldn't signed up.  No really, I love this shit.  I would much rather excersize my mind than my body, but that is another story.

For me, personally, I was born being a pain in the ass and seeing all the stuff the greyfaces have learned not to.  That, for me, is the biggest difference.  That and most Discordians have a sense of humor, most of the time.  I point things out to people all the time.  I get this sort of reponse from people a lot:

I never thought of it that way!?!

and this is stuff that is so obvious that I sometimes forget to mention them.  I have learned that I have a unique perspective on the world.  This is not bragging, it does not always help, trust me.  So I have fun with it.  I have been able to bring some people into, if not total Discordianism, at least into a more open perspective of the world.

It is easy to judge. It is much more difficult to have the patience to explain things to those who do not understand.  Some people are very open, but they are chickenshit.  They have bought into the crap they have been fed all of their lives.  If someone is fed crap all of their lives and you offer them hamburger, they will eat it up, most of the time.  If they prefer crap, me personally, I walk out of the room and laugh.  I have to, it is not their fault, but they are so funny.

If you are ready for enlightment and a Discordian throws a beer in your face, you will be enlightened.  If you are not ready, you will throw an ashtray.  hehehehe

Remember: the map is not the road.  Someone smarter than me said it first, but I don't remember who.

Are You Fucking Crazy?
A Recent Incident Involving Yours Truly and the DSSS.

He lit it up, saying, "Thank you kindly, miss. I was just about to ask."

She responded with "Are you fucking crazy?"

To which he said, "Miss, I keep my fucking and my craziness separated, except for special occasions. But if you mean crazy about fucking, then yes I am." He started brushing the ashes and butts off of himself.

That is all.

The only thing he forgot was this,
"Yes I am crazy, but it's OK as long as I take my medication."

Beautiful story.  Made my day.  She will learn to read up on her subject better next time.  Or learn to wear trenchcoat.

Quote from: GimozWhy read it? If you are going to debate about it, make things up as you go.

Because it is more fun to throw their own book at them.  Most Christians have no idea what is in there.  Unless someone tells them what to think on Sunday morning, they don't look.  It is fun to see the look on their faces when you ask about them whores of whoredom passage.

The History Channel and A & E have some funny shows as well.  Well, they're funny to me, they are serious shows.  Sex in the bible, stuff like that.  There are some parts of the bible that are pretty much porn, but I have no idea where they are at.  Once in a while there will be a show about books that never made it into the bible, those are fun too.

Or Kill Me / Intelligence

Quote from: lolmonsteri disagree abotu open minded ness. an open mind is a fool's mind. that doesn't mean you should have a closed mind. buddha said build of your mind a fortress.

after that, an empty mind is the wellspring of i forget.

It's one of those things where you have to find balance.  I haven't read a lot of Buddha, so I am not sure about the quote.  I just know that you can't learn anything if your mind is so closed you cannot hear what anyone else is saying.  If your mind is so open that you believe everything you hear you will be confused and unable to do anything about anything.

Or Kill Me / Intelligence
December 23, 2004, 08:06:26 PM
Quote from: LMNODoes intelligence get in the way of spiritual enlightenment?

Intelligence can get in the way if you do not listen to people because you believe you are smarter than they are.  You have to try to have an open mind.  Ultimately you have to find your own path, which is the most difficult thing.  Many people appear to find the path to spiritual enlightenment, but that does not mean that I will find it by following them.  I can listen to their ideas, read the same books, go with them to the places or groups or meetings or whatever or whereever they go, but that does not mean I will find what they found.

Intelligence can save you if you do not listen to people because you believe you are smarter than they are.  Some people claim to be further along than they are.  They have mumbo jumbo that may sound intersting or exciting, but it does not mean squat.

The kind of intelligence you really need is experience.  The older I get the more it makes sense.  This does not mean that I cannot learn from someone younger than I am.  It does not mean that my experiences are better than yours, or that yours are better than mine.  It means that when you fuck up, you learn from the experience.  Most people do not, it seems to me.  They look as if they are worshipping destructive disorder and they are surprized when their life is destructed and disorderly.  If you would like to see these people, watch any episode of Cops. I am sure there is more in my head, but I'm tired.

The biggest problem is they only used 2 colors.  I would hate to try to actually follow the Lorenz attractor back and forth across the pattern, though.  Here are some more pretty pictures.

http://astronomy.swin.edu.au/~pbourke/fractals/lorenz/

Here is a cool model, you can see the line going back and forth.  Plus you can play with the numbers and see what happens to the attractor.
