Hey LHX, good to see ye around again. I liked this piece - I was just reminiscing today about how this commutiny/cabal used to be really focused on producing output. Like the BIP pamphlets, website, The Age of Aftermath magazine project, etcetc. And recently we've kind of veered away from that, perhaps because there's not much new to say about the Black Iron Prison. But I like this take, this spin. It's refreshing to read.

TBH, I didn't like the line
Quoteif that extended metaphor was too much - you should prolly stop reading now

the line
Quoteyou are the equivalent of a pair of air jordans in a place where people have the ability to fly and teleport
made me lol

The traintrack metaphor resonates with me as it matches up with my own opinions about Free Will and the lack thereof.

And it just goes to show that you can't really fight bureaucracy because bureaucracy is made up of all of us. And that part of you which wants to fight the machine - that's part of the machine too.

It doesn't say he has Alzheimer's, but some sort of "pre-Alzheimers", which may be MCI, or Mild Cognitive Impairment. You can get that as young as 45 or 50. I saw a lot of MCI patients when I was doing clinical research at this Alzheimer's clinic in Albany. MCI patients are still quite functional. One of our patients was a lawyer and didn't find that it interfered too much with his practice.

Also, not all MCI develops into Alzheimer's.

Also, they have really good drugs to treat it these days. And if they caught it early they can reeeeealy slow down his mental decay.

Hah, zilch you quoted the exact line I was going to. (paraphrasing) I'm not advocating that people don't cross the street. I'm just saying don't cross the street blindfolded." I think that sums it up, right?

No you can't know what black swans you might encounter, but when you're aware that they might be coming, you can keep yourself guarded.

Example - I was trying to persuade a friend of mine to come to a LARP one weekend. He said he couldn't because his wife (who is in the process of divorcing him) was going to be in the country. Also, she was intent on fucking up his life.

"Is she going to interact with you in some way this weekend?"

"Probably not," he said, "but she's connected into a lot of the same systems as I am. I need to be at an at-ready posture just in case."

To me, that sounds like someone who's ready for Black Swans.

:lulz: :fnord:aha, nice of you to respond though! my undiagnosed point was, I suppose what is the point of life/living/dying. I am not a religious individual as religion just suffocates, denies the freedom of true expression; you might as well be in prison!
Which in a way we are.

Well if I can tie in Rev. Whats-His-Name's thread "If God Wasn't Real, It Would Be Necessary to Invent Him," (http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php?topic=14453.0) I'd object to the classification of religion as something which suffocates. Because if you don't have a priest saying that God created the universe you have a scientist saying that an explosion created the universe. And those two opposites are playing the exact same role.

QuoteBring me your MENU. I would like to see what your MENU says on our existence.

Interesting question, although kind of broad. can you be more specific?

I saw saddam hussein the other day.......coming out of mcdonalds(sic)66

I'm having trouble with this line. If you're trying to make a point, please be more clear! If you're just trying to be random, don't pair it with a question you'd like us to take seriously. Many people around here would advise you to drop arbitrary randomness altogether, as it tends to be interpreted as "trying too hard to be Discordian" or something like that. We call it "eating the menu."

BTW Big Kudos, tripzip, for checking his references. That's some sterling academic professionalism right there.

It feels "truthy" though, no?  :p
