Title: CDGASM
Post by: Nephew Twiddleton on September 01, 2010, 06:29:48 PM
PArt one of my Jack of All Forums attempt.

The idea- To create a CD for distribution to the public, much in the same way as PosterGASM or some such.
Some one contributes a track of some sort. It can be Discordian music (perhaps this can link in with MusicGASM, I don't know), or a sermon, rant, a riddle, whatever you can think of. When the CD is done, burn off 5 copies and leave them in random public places or hand them off to someone. Write on the CD the title that we come up with, the instruction to copy and distribute to others, and whatever else you feel like writing on it.

Any suggestions or takers?

I think that's a great idea

here's what I'd put on it

-all intermittens issues
-a multimedia menace collection
-PDFs of the PD, BIP, other relevant works
-a million retarded graphics

I was wondering about the multimedia angle and how it would fare along with audio tracks. Probably would come like an enhanced CD, or maybe we would put it on a DVD for more data space if it got too big.

The one snag with that though is suspicion of computer viruses, though curiosity might override that.

Not unless you choose to contribute to the CD.

I think it would be cool to get various rants off the forum and have people read them with theatrical flair and/or evangelistic inflection.

I think we've had ideas like this floated here before, as far as distributing CDs. I don't think it was proposed as a Gasm, though.

THIS.

Original authors' voices, where possile  IMO would be Best.

and instead of having pictures and such, we could have audio recordings of someone describing the images. or  :?.

Put the text documents in a locked zip/rar file, and "hide" (i.e. make it obvious) the password on the audio tracks somewhere.

From a technical point of view that will work fine. You can burn audio tracks on a CD as well as binary data on the same disc. If you insert it into a computer you'll see the files (as well as the tracks, probably), and in a CD player it'll just play the audio. Only the very oldest CD player models might not be able to play a mixed data/music CD, but those would be over 20 years old, so don't worry about that.

Good point! When you insert a CD into a windows computer, you get this popup window that asks "what do you want to do with this CD? Open it as a folder/play it as audio/etc" as soon as you got that window, it means it would have executed any AUTORUN.INF file in the root folder of the CD (except for the few paranoid that disable this "feature")

...

Question is, what do we want that AUTORUN file to do? ;-)

Ah, I did this a wile back with all the Intermittens that had been published up to that point, and threw an audio file or two on there.

We'd have to check the desires of the people involved, but maybe The Spider Project?

Also; what could be done so that there's a measurable outcome?

How do we know of success?

Place a weblink to PD.com. If person comes here and posts that they got a CD then it worked?

That's my worry. An audio only CD is innocuous enough. Something with extra stuff might set off alarm bells and not have them open it at all.

You're the computer guy, you tell me.

I disavow all knowledge of said CD if that is how we go, btw.

Could there be some kind of website or a page on one of your sites/wikis whatever that people who read/listen to the CD go to and leave a note or click a button or whatever?

"Thanks for listening to and reading all this crazy shit. Choose your posters from the provided PDF.s and decorate your town's telephone poles.
Take pictures and post to Flickr.

Also, for your chance to win a free car* please go to http://www.principiawikiwhatever.com/CDGasmParticipants and choose one of the available options.

*No car will actually be awarded but maybe Eris will smile on you."

ETA: The site didn't load page two until after I'd already posted a comment. Disregard repetitiveness. I thought it was just TCC that was slow as fuck. But no, no, it's the entire internets. Sorry.

's true. though you need to insert it to see there's extra stuff on. and once you do, the AUTORUN already runs (unless you disabled this default setting--like I would advise anyone to do, IIRC you can find it in that long-ass list of checkboxes in your File Exporer menu Extra > Folder Options, but I could be wrong I'm not in Windows right now to check)

Hehehehehe I was (sort of) kidding, of course.

However, there's one fairly innocent thing it can do, such as automatically opening a webpage, in order to measure the success of the outcome.

I hear that, but it might be cool to have someone with a strong Bulgarian accent on it. A little jarring for American ears. On the other hand, you could make a Bulgarian version of it and translate the content and narrate it yourself.

Subtitles.

Also, if including the PDFs, et al, I propose an audio track explaining all the contents in a spoof of Mission Impossible's briefing tapes. "You're mission, should you choose to accept it, will be to blah blah...", "This message will self destruct if ejected...", et cetera. what would be even cooler (Looking at you, 000) is if the message audio file could also become inaccessible if ejected. :lulz:

that's kind of hard to do, as far as erasing the tracks goes, it's a write-once medium, so you'd need to physically damage the CD.

while there might be some crazy hack that could fuck up a CD when it's in the drive, I don't know it, and if it's possible it might damage the drive itself, too :)

[tangent]I remember reading in the anarchist's cookbook long ago that you could glue crushed up match heads to the disk in the old floppys, which would ignite if used. I never tried it out.[/tangent]

would it be possible if we used a CD-RW? or to make an autorun file that changes the file extension after it's played, making it inaccessible?

I had some ideas on how to leave cds about.

In the CD player of a rental car.

Stuck between the pages of books at libraries, and book stores.

I also had this thought about using Classified and Unclassified red/green stickers.

I'm looking into how I can get some without raising any red flags.

I love this idea, looking forward to seeing it progress. This is sort of anti-postergasm because it is there for the people who SEARCH for it. It isn't in your face, the people that are watching it really were LOOKING for knowledge in the first place (which is why they put it in their computer :P)

Also, text files are mandatory, as are binary representations of the number pi.

And that just gave me an idea. "Property of <insert your name here>" or "<state your full name>"

Coyote's on a goddamn roll!

A rant that could possibly be put into audio for this, maybe with music in the background. Feel free to suggest changes.

Don't look now, but you're surrounded by advertisements. I bet you didn't even notice. That's the whole trick behind it. Everyone is so accustomed to it they really don't notice how many ads are around them at any given time. It's the ultimate subliminal messaging. So ubiquitous, it leads to passive intake of information, a sort of acceptance, and a willingness to buy the product. Life has become an extension of a poorly written TV show, and the commercials and product placements abound. Even spirituality is advertised on public transportation.

You're surrounded by a strange mélange of posters for laundry detergent, the hot new TV show, a Church or a Mosque ready to let you in on the big secret, what pills you should be taking, what soda you should be drinking, a movie with a derivative plot with all the best special effects, what groundbreaking new music is coming out next month, what airline to take after you get molested by the TSA or have your naked image transferred to another room in the airport.

Attractive, underdressed women let you know what kind of beer they want their man to drink. Sometimes they even come to your bar, convince you to buy a shot of some new liqueur and get you to buy the t-shirt. It's always better when the girl in the ad is physically present. They're on your bus, on your TV, in your Church bulletin, they make up the bulk of your favorite magazine, in your inbox, on your computer screen, on your shirt, in your pants, and in your hand. Don't look now, but you're surrounded by advertisements.

Just thought of something else to throw in there somewhere:

I bet you didn't even realize your t-shirt's tag itched or that your collar curled up like bacon until Michael Jordan and friends pointed it out to you. Ads tell you what you need even though you didn't know you needed it.

This one might need some tightening up:

Words. Words are powerful tools. Words have definition. Words convey ideas. Words can influence your thinking. Words get hijacked. Words get changed. Words convey ideas they weren't meant to convey. Words control you. Words become vitriol. Words become venom. Words become meaningless. Words become buzzwords. Words become memes. Words become tropes. Words become noise. Words become symbols and slogans. Words to make you nervous and afraid. Words that are idle chatter, repeated without thought, a screensaver for the brain.

Words like Hope, Change, Bias, Right-Wing, Terrorist, Socialism, Libertarian, Anarchy and Atheist.
Words like Extremist, Fringe, Fascist, Fanatic, Nazi, Liberal, Mosque, Government and God.
Words like Intellectual, Environmentalist, Activist, Elite, Science, Immigrant, Death Panels, Refudiate,  and Blood-Libel.
Words like Freedom, Security, Taxes, Conspiracy, Gay Agenda, Evolution, Theory and anything ending in -care, -ist, -ism, -nomics or -gate.

Words.
Do you use words to express your thoughts? Or do you let your thoughts express your words?

I like that one, but you're right. Maybe a change in one word or something will bring it together. And outlandish is ok for this sort of thing. It catches people's attention. At the very least it entertains them. Each one is going to get a different reaction. More official ones are going to be more jarring and create some uncertainty in the reader, whereas the outlandish ones will probably put some people off and thinking it's some joke disk. I'll use them all, but I might be selective about who I give the zany to.

I think I figured out what I want to change about mine. I'm focusing more on words as fnords (also shows political bias) whereas my intent was to show how words are more like viruses that do thinking for you, whether they're beneficial or not. Maybe If I chop it up so that I say something like "Words to make you nervous like, Terrorist, Socialist, etc..." And then another where it's like "Words to tell you who you are, like Libertarian, Liberal, etc..."

This would have the added benefit of possibly putting it in more of a songlike format. Cuz if it sounds like free form poetry, well, we know how people generally feel about poetry....

The Apocalypse, according to some asshole (feel free to skip to paragraph 2, since the first one is directly from the Bible):

And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures saying as with a voice of thunder, Come. And I saw, and behold, a white horse, and he that sat thereon had a bow; and there was given unto him a crown: and he came forth conquering, and to conquer. And when he opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, Come. And another came forth, a red horse: and to him that sat thereon it was given to take peace from the earth, and that they should slay one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.
And when he opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature saying, Come. And I saw, and behold, a black horse; and he that sat thereon had a balance in his hand. And I heard as it were a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, A measure of wheat for a shilling, and three measures of barley for a shilling; and the oil and the wine hurt thou not. And when he opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying, Come. And I saw, and behold, a pale horse: and he that sat upon him, his name was Death; and Hades followed with him. And there was given unto them authority over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with famine, and with death, and by the wild beasts of the earth.

And then I said unto the angel, "Is there no one to stop the Lamb from opening the seals?" And the angel said, "What the fuck are you talking about?" I responded, "The Lamb! The Lamb is visiting these terrible things upon us! Will no one save us from his wrath?" The angel looked sad, and said, "It is not his wrath, but merely the counting." "What the fuck are you talking about?!?" The angel attempted to Enlighten me. "He's counting. There are seven seals. Seven things to count. He is not doing this to you." "But he is breaking open the seals, which is causing the four horsemen to come!"

"No. He's counting. He breaks the seal when something is about to happen.  Look!" And the angel handed me a pair of binoculars and slowed down time. And there, where once I saw a shifting mass, I saw the faces of the Horsemen in detail. It was the face of everyone who ever lived, with pleading hands.

I saw faces in anger, with hands wielding swords. I saw faces in anguish, shielding their faces from swords. I saw faces in ecstasy, some of which I could not see their hands. "Behold," said the angel, "There is you!" And on one of the horsemen, I saw a pimple that was my own face, hands in an expression, of WTF?!"

"I don't get it, what the hell is this?" The angel, growing weary said, "The Lamb is merely counting your dooms. He is not doing it." And I saw, some of the hands were hacking at the pimples. Some of the pimples were falling off into the ground, in a large pool of pus and blood. "Why is the Lamb counting on seals on a scroll?" The angel looked incredulous. "You only have 5 fingers on each hand. When you start counting, you have to go to 5 or 10. Do you know how ridiculous it looks when you just count to seven on your fingers?"

"Then who can stop this madness?" The angel said, "You, plural, can. You, singular, cannot. Here. Take this." And it handed me some candle and wax. "What is this for?" inquired I. "To seal up the four seals already broken. Maybe it's too late. Maybe not. Give it a shot. Also don't let this go to your head, you're not special. You're just some dude we picked off the street."

I nodded, took the candle and the wax. Then I asked, "What does it say on the scroll?" And the angel laughed, and said, "John of Patmos never had the sense to ask that question. It's a simple message. It says, 'It wasn't my fault,' and it is signed with 7 billion signatures." I looked, and saw the pimple that bore my resemblance throw one of its hands to its forehead.

This revelation is an allegory. I'm not schizophrenic, nor am I on hallucinogens, nor is it an endorsement of any particular religion that I really don't believe in. Make of it what you will. Just know that the End IS nigh. But we can change that.

Might be too preachy. Feel free to suggest edits:

Let's talk about something unpleasant, shall we?

You're going to die. You can't change that, but feel free to blame your parents. They are, after all, responsible for giving you a disease with a 100% fatality rate: life.

They say that there are only two certain things in life. Death and Taxes. Well, they're right. You're going to die (and you're going to pay The Machine for the duration of your life). What happens after that is anyone's guess. Maybe the Christians are right and you go to Heaven or Hell. Maybe the Hindus are right and you just come back. Maybe the atheists are right and you turn into dirt and that's it. Who the hell knows?

Here's what's important. If you believe in Heaven or Hell, then what you do here on Earth while you are alive is somehow important, and determines your final destination. Do you want your God to look at you and say, "whatsoever you do to the least of your brothers, that you do unto me," to which you will invariably respond, "Oh Lord, I treated everyone right while I was alive! Spare me!" Of course you do. Here's the thing, he might say, "yeah, cool, but you fucked over your grandchildren right proper! Into the fire!"

If you believe in reincarnation, do you really want to come back to an even worse mess because you didn't clean it up in the first place? Maintenance cuts out a lot of binge cleaning. If you believe you're just going to die, are you going to feel comfortable that your only legacy was that you were part of the problem by not doing a godlessdamn thing and just watched TV?

No, I don't think you want any of these.

I'm not asking you to save the world. If that were possible, someone would have done it already. The only thing I'm asking is that you make this world a better place for everyone. While you're doing this, don't forget that life without fun might as well be death.

And that is the unpleasant thing. Not that you're going to die. You're a person, and you know it's going to happen. The unpleasant thing is that you have to get off your ass and make your otherwise humdrum experience worth something. No one said it was easy. But you can certainly make it fun.

Unless you plan on reading the last part of the first rant super fast like one of those announcers detailing the side-effects of a drug I would axe it.

Which means you should do it. After a five second pause.

I need 8 more labels to fill the sheet. 3 red/secret and 5 green/unclass. Ideas would be awesome, or I can reuse a few of the more popular ones. In which case, tell me which ones are awesome enough to be double(triple) printed.

ETA: I am also going to use these labels for my own mini-mindfuck for the area.

Ok cool.

I suggest Cressing for written work http://placiddingo.com/?p=187

Or Fuzzy language http://placiddingo.com/?p=184

I'm working on some music atm. It's mostly instrumental so not particularly  subversive. You can decide if you want it or not based on your feelings on copyright violation (it's all made from other peoples songs)

Can't happen here;http://www.last.fm/music/The+Ton+Experiment/SayTou/Can%27t+Happen+Here

A nin track crossed with a great quote from 1984. (spoilers) http://www.last.fm/music/The+Ton+Experiment/SayTou/Frank%2BMuller%2B-%2B1984%252F%2B1%2BGhosts%2B6?noredirect=1

I like the written pieces, especially fuzzy language, which hits on the idea that I was trying to get across with my words rant, and does it better.

As far as the music, what are the source songs for can't happen here?
Also, if I recall Trent Reznor is ok with people remixing anything off of ghosts so that's ok.

Ta.

Can't happen here; Over and Over Again (Lost and Found); Clap your hands say yeah!, Fall At Your Feet; Clair Bowdich, Post Jesus; Paul Mac, It Can't Happen Here; Frank Zappa, Burn it to the Ground, Michael Andrews

Ghosts is fair game, but the Frank Muller clip (1984 audiobook) possibly is not.

i'll have to take another couple of listens (also couldnt access the nin/1984 one for some reason). i;m a little more wary about copyright if its going on a cd, but it will probably be ok.

Actually, my t-shirt tags always bugged the hell out of me. Especially after a sunburn on my neck. But I grew up a farm hick. :P

Some of them could do with music. And I'd like for any tracks with my voice to be slightly distorted enough that it doesn't sound like me.

Bear in mind I'm technically living nowhere until Sept. 1. You have my undivided attention Sept. 3. The first thing I unpack is my recording shit.

Also, please send box of bees to Newtonville, MA until then. After then, Jamaica Plain, MA.

A glimpse. Bear in mind I have never lived more than 5 miles from the place I grew up.

Also bear in mind that aside from two nights this past week I have not slept in this room for a year.

Im going to reread this whole thing this weekend and start getting down to it. Also do you think we should coordinate with google docs for some things maybe at least for some sort of spreadsheet that says whats going on and what its status is?

Hey, guess who's doing shit?

This guy.

Ok, so here is what we have

Coyote- audio files of rants, which I have listened to and have downloaded into a folder for the purpose of this project (great preacher voice btw) Also, motherfucking stickers up the wazz.

Dingo- listened to your two tracks again and have downloaded them. Since this is basically going to be a free CD I don't see a problem with copyright, especially if it's a mashup. Also, Cressing and the Fuzzies (which supercedes my words rant, since yours is better). Is there anything in particular that you would like done with these, or would you like to have them as text files on the CD?

Cramulus- likes the idea and had some suggestions as to overall concept. Would you like to volunteer anything in particular and what format would you like it in? I wouldn't mind using Dead People for President if you don't mind. Any of his music

Telarus- was interested in contributing though in my tiredness I may have missed what it was.

CPD- same

Dalek- had an idea for a video, which I am down with. It was a guy talking interspersed with strange and unrelated imagery. I asked if he wanted to do it, someone else said possibly in Bulgarian with subtitles. Are you down? If not, I think the idea is worth going ahead with, if anyone has any experience with video editing. Though if we end up with a lot of video ideas we may want to branch off into a DVDGASM (which I will also contribute to, once I get a webcam).

Iron Sulfide- came up with the idea of a Mission Impossible type of file. Cool with that too. Is he still around? I haven't seen him in a while.

I Kicked Kennedy- Interested. Do you have anything in particular in mind?

Waffle Iron- Stuff from his Chap Hop project, which I like. Is there a specific track in mind, or should we put it to some sort of vote?

Phox- Has 3 raps in the works. Also, I know you're working on that other song. Would you like that to go on here as well?

Rong- took a listen to one of your songs, I like it (especially where you suddenly fly off into black metal), and will listen to the rest of it when it's not 1 am. Same question posed to Waffle Iron.

LMNO Going Back to Tucson  http://www.reverbnation.com/artist/artist_songs/284942

Twid- How was your day rant, Advertisements rant, Death rant, End of the World rant, and my song from Phox's I hear that train a comin' thread, once I restring the acoustic. I'll have to look back on the rants I mentioned. I just glanced at them to take stock of what I posed for this. I know I was iffy about some of them. I might like someone else to come up with some instrumental tracks as a background to some of them (and maybe for Coyote's rants too) since I would probably fuss over it a lot and end up making it some sort of metal spoken word. I do want to put some rants to stereotypical church preacher music on some sort of cheesy organ or calliope or something for added effect on Coyote's.  And of course, I think it is now necessary to have the sound off bees in the background of something I'm reciting.

I started up a messy looking spreadsheet on my computer to keep track of this. So, I think I mentioned this, but if all of you have PD email addresses, I could transfer it into a google doc so we can all keep track of it. If not, it's cool, I can just keep the spreadsheet on file. If anyone wants to send me a file, send it to twid@principiadiscordia.com and then post in this thread that you sent it so I know to check that account.

And of course, if anyone else wants to jump in, you are more than welcome to.

At the moment I am holding off on recording until I get a better mic. However, do you want the new song for this? I'd be happy to put it on there. But which version the original or the cover?

Whichever one comes out better, naturally.  :)

Waffle Iron- Stuff from his Chap Hop project, which I like. Is there a specific track in mind, or should we put it to some sort of vote?

Rong- took a listen to one of your songs, I like it (especially where you suddenly fly off into black metal), and will listen to the rest of it when it's not 1 am. Same question posed to Waffle Iron.

a vote is fine with me.  i feel like the song "layin low" might resonate best with the most people, but what do i know?

I'll give that one a listen tonight. If you think that one's the best, we'll go with it.

Cramulus- likes the idea and had some suggestions as to overall concept. Would you like to volunteer anything in particular and what format would you like it in? I wouldn't mind using Dead People for President if you don't mind.

You can have Dead People for President!

if you use it, mention the band "Lay Day Gar Gar Versus the Fail Parade"

Feel free to use any of my audio (http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php/topic,29995.msg1106054.html#msg1106054)!

stuff which may be of use:

The Cup of Ra

I'm listening to If You Only Knew right now. I had a thought- maybe we could do some audio scenes, like if it's from a movie with no pictures, with background music and people having a conversation. This particular song strikes me as working with that sort of thing.

Got a rough recording of a song here (Just vocals and chords on a clean electric guitar), would like some feedback.

http://soundcloud.com/139thmemeticengineers/train-coming-down-the-line

Lyrics can be found here: http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php/topic,31157.msg1131252.html#msg1131252

I guess the feedback I'm looking for is, should I leave it like this (ie, rerecord it, but just with an acoustic guitar to keep it sounding like a folk type song), or should I include an electric guitar with the acoustic, a bass and some sort of beat? I have more parts for it, but I also don't want to overdo the thing if it would sound better with less. Also, how is the tempo. Should I speed it up? I think it's around 135 bpm as it is.

Ok. Probably what I'll do is that I'll rerecord with all of the tracks and maybe just some basic drum machine beat. From that I can mix down two versions, one with everything, and another with all the tracks muted but the voice and the acoustic, and then compare. But if less is more is more generally liked after that, I'll go with it.

Oh, definitely with the acoustic. The battery in the pickup was dead so I had to use electric. I'll try and slow it down to 120 bpm.

Part 1:

theres a buzz sounding in my head
fog and fuzz from which attentions fled
i sit around and take to drinking
to keep myself from too much thinking
to drown out this feeling sinking
theres a buzz inside my head

cant help but think that theres something worth doing
something fun something cool a brewing
but sometimes its tricky to clear out the junk
a little harder to pull out of the funk
sometimes easier just to get drunk
theres a buzzing inside my head

sitting staring as the sun sinks and dies
hour hand spinning my heads full of flies
and i just sit blankly looking at the screen
hitting refresh hoping for something new to be seen
should do it myself from the knowledge ive gleaned
but theres a buzzing inside my head
Title: Re: CDGASM

Part two

In my head the flies buzz around
now interrupted by another sound
the sound of  buzzing outside emergent
swarming angry insistent and urgent
lethargy dies attention resurgent
theres a buzzing outside my head

theres a buzzing around my head
frenzied discordant filling me with dread
in a panic my ears are ringing
from the drone of bees wings singing
and all over happily stinging
urging me to do what i said
theres a buzzing around my head

thats all feedback appreciated.

Wow, I'm glad I didn't kink my FB to scribd... y'know what. fuck linking facebook to anything. As Douglas Rushkoff pointed out, facebook is an attempt to re-centralize (re-"incorporate") the peer-to-peer aspects of the web which have started to grow robust again after the dot com crash (see the video I linked in Roger's Psychology: Something's Wrong thread).

Why thanks! We wrote the lyrics for it, found a live recording of the song without vocals and Jam Masta R sang on top of it. Lazy as fuck, but we like being sued.

In a not musically related note.

Has anyone other than me printed out the labels? Curious if it's my printer or if I should recreate the labels for better resolution.

I'm in a very weird situation where I'm not sleeping in my own home for even half the week. Past couple of weeks I've been "home" on Wednesday and Thursday. There are reasons for that and Pickles feels like a douche even though I told him it's cool and it's not his fault. Anyway, I can print stuff out, but not really, so no, much as I want to with both this and some other shit.

Even shite graphic works suck timewise. My latest Jenne and Khara thing delayed me playing poker with the girlfriend and the bassist from Avariel. But I was like, I've got an idea and I gotta roll with it. Be downstairs shortly. Recording is the same. There's takes and takes and takes, and then mixing. That reminds me.... gotta upload a rough track for your input. BRB.

I can clean up the audio a bit, but it's some spoken word over rong's instrumental.

Placing ads on the CD? Like 15-30 second blurbs advertising Discordian things and places? Or a public service announcement?
Title: Re: CDGASM
Post by: Nephew Twiddleton on February 15, 2012, 10:42:31 PM
Actually i like that a lot. An advertisement for intermittens for example would save disk space that would be otherwise used for an issue of intermittens.

At first i was a little reluctant to include blatant discordian references in this but im fine with it at this point. Its kinda the point anyway.

Also- this will take several people to record their voices. But what if we had a track with an okm type rant in it that sounds like an am radio talk show host with other spags calling in?

And have some of the ads be as if a DJ were reading them off as sponsers for some unknown radio station?

Off the top of my head- we could have ads for the chao te ching and life of nobody- with lmnos and charleys permission to do so of course.

Im wondering now if the whole thing should be formatted like a radio show- that way the "host" can give credit for the music pieces verbally.

I love that idea, but we would need to come up with a script for the host.

OR, we could adlib the whole thing by having someone as the host, and having other spags call him asking random questions and such while recording it.

Those were the two things i was thinking too. Well have to figure out the other stuff first and have a general idea of how much time well have either way. Then well have to figure out who the host is and whats the most convenient way for him or her to froth at the mouth and listen to and respond to spags. So it will need to be sort of scripted i think.

maybe i'm too picky, but i think it would be better if it was more spoken - less rhythmic.  it kinda sounds to me like you haven't decided if you intend to blend with the music or not.

How hard would it be to say your part and then mix in the music track so as to not get caught in the rhythm of the music while speaking?

That's not too much of a problem. It rhymes, so I might have to fight it a little, but I should be able to manage.

Mixing it in after the fact may be problematic (I might want to space it out the same way), but we'll see.

I wasn't able to put my finger on it til I got your guys feedback, but I think it's a little too reminiscent of a slower Marilyn Manson song vocal-wise. I tried to take advantage of my sore throat to get a sort of groggy effect, but it didn't quite hit the spot.

Ok, so we got the DiscordiCorp, which we could use as the buffer stuff as ads for their products. Right?

Ok ok, so what if we have at the begining some kind of briefing material indicating that the rest of the CD is the results of an investigations of DiscordiCorp and its subsidiaries?

Hey, what did you think of the Dr John show?

Loved it. Dude actually got me to dance. Well, that was also partially to get the circulation back in my feet. One of the things that surprised me though is that he never addressed the audience. He went up there, played the songs with about 3 seconds of space in between, and then got off stage. Is that something that older musicians do?

At any rate, I'd only heard a little of his stuff before hand- it was more a matter of getting Nick out of the house and catching a guy who I might never get the chance to see live again, but I was sufficiently impressed and entertained to want to get his albums.

You know, I didn't even notice he never spoke to the audience.  I have a feeling that's just his style -- He simply wants to play, make people have a good time, and not interrupt just to say, "HOWY'ALLDOIN'TONITEBOSTON?"

He did look to be enjoying himself quite a bit. Makes me hopeful that I'll still be doing music in 41 years too.

Jesus, that's a weird thought right there... doing a show sometime in 2053.

BUMP because discussion.

So Twid, what else is further needed?

I had the idea for mock adverts and military briefings, BUT I am shit at creative writing, especially if it supposed to emulate something very specific.

DAMN YOU FOR BEATING ME HERE.

Honestly, I really thing it's just a matter of my finishing a track or two and editting, and making sure all the permissions are still valid. Well, that and the radio show bits. And if people don;t want to further contribute, we can just bump again, or, failing that, get all of the PD musicians to form like, 4 permutations to cover it.

Any ideas for the actual content for the radio show bits?

I'm not exactly sure, but we'd also need advertisements for Discordicorp.

Someone who sounds like they haven't left the broadcast booth for a week and is running out of go pills feverishly trying to make sense of something while the world goes crazy around him?

Sounds perfect. Should it be an improv thing or scripted?

Hmmm. Well unless someone volunteers or we have someone in mind that we can ask i imagine it would be either you or me. He it deep up being me scripted would probably work best
