Title: RWHN: From the Depths vol. 2 #1 (Election Time Special)
Post by: AFK on November 03, 2006, 06:03:21 PM
"There's no other way out of here." -- The Cavanagh Brothers

Well, it's that time of year again.  Time when we are faced with a wide variety of mediocrity while standing in that oh-so-spacious voting booth.  Talk about "boxing us in."

I don't know about you folks but this is just getting boring.  Yet, if you watch the news they will tell you a "revolution" is coming.  Yup, the Democrats are poised to take a majority in the House of Representatives and probably just missing the Senate by a seat or two.  Nevermind that the so-called majority in the House will be a handful of seats.  All of a sudden the "rogues" of each party become much more powerful.  John McCain must be loving this.

Anyway, the cable companies are having a field day with this Midterm Erection.  (No, I didn't mispell that.)  But, they, intentionally or unintentionally are missing the big story.  Hello, Gridlock anyone?  Republican White House + 50/50 Senate + 51/49 House = Motherfucking Screeching Halt.

Yeah, I know.  What were they doing anyway?  But the American Electorate just fuels this crap.  There are some of us who know the system is fucked beyond fucked but our voice gets buried by the indecisiveness of the ignorant.  Too many people put their hands up and just go with the party they have been, even if their candidate is a stuffed suit.  You'd think the big splosions and raining bodies in New York would have changed this.  Nope!  Of course we're nearing the 3000 casulty mark in Iraq too.  It's been dragged out a lot longer.  Doesn't matter.  Polls show the American public fed up, yet, they are voting in another stalemate.  WTF people!!!  Oh yeah, that's right, you're the same people who will watch the 10th season of Survivor like its different than the first.

So, I'm fed up with this crap!  Aren't you???  WTF do we do???  I admit dumbfoundedness.  I'm voting this year.  But I'm not voting for any blues or reds.  They don't stand for anything.  They just stand for not being the other guy.  This shit just isn't funny anymore.........

Fuck, down in Boston, even the Independents and the Green Party candidates are dipshits.

When you can't even cast a protest vote because it turns your stomach, what can you do?

The only thing I've got going for me is that the probable winner's dad was a sax player in Sun Ra's Arkestra...

When is the vote, precisely?  I know its within a few days, but when?

I remember staying up all night with my American friends hoping Bush would be kicked out, with little success.

Yeah, there was a story buried in the newspapers a couple of days ago proposing a theory that those airplanes that were going to be blown up over the Atlantic were actually going to be blown up over major cities.  I have a suspicion this my be front page news on Monday.

Admittedly, I didn't read it myself.  I heard it referenced on a news show on CNN.  I thought they said it was in either the Washington Time or the Washington Post but I can't find it on either site.  But whatever paper it was in, they said it was buried on like page 8 or something like that.  But I think it might have been only a theory, I don't know if it was based on evidence or anything.

And this fact will stop them convincing the electorate masses of the 'fact' how? I mean the guy who's going to be convincing them is, quite patently, incapable of tying his own shoelaces but the masses believe he's a fully functioning leader nonetheless.

Oh I know.  There must be a considerable hole in the whole thing if the Bush Administration isn't using it leading up to the election.

On another note, wouldn't it be funny to see Ann Coulter arrested on Tuesday as she's about to vote, yet again, in the wrong district.

Troof.  But the DHS have been informed by British military, intelligence and academic personnel that it would have been impossible to create the bombs, let alone smuggle them on.  Airports already have liquid explosive detectors, in any case.

Indeed.  But he's already got so confused the media is noticing.  He claims to have never said "stay the course" to want to withdraw from Iraq by staying there etc etc and the media has picked up on it.  The Repubs have even slammed Bush's plans on Iran because of NK.

Methinks that government inc has decided on a leadership change. Hopefully the next head on a stick will posess a bit more in the way of basic motor functions. Elmer Fudd might have been funny but I couldn't help feeling insulted.

Yeah, its looking likely.  I wrote something on that earlier this year...lemme see if I can find it...

Written in March 2006:

Iraq is a failure, but it can be recovered from, dismissed. If it gets worse, plotters will start gathering. The political backers, the modern day Machiavellis, people who know how to fashion opinions into knives. They will cut Bush out. This is already starting, Reaganites and the Cato Institute, dissenters like Fukuyama and Perle.

They will try and let the Dems take the fall in 08, as their are no leaders there capable of what is wanted. Once the financial situation is improved (but not the political, importantly) then they will advance their new candidate. Think Gregor Strasser/Von Papen situation in the Weimar Republic. Instability in the political sphere will be fatal in the coming years. Foreign adventures are most advised against. Backlash will not tend to liberalism, already ideologues blaming Bush for being too liberal.

Has anyone come up with any kind of solution yet? Any voting suggestions? It dosen't seem like it, and I don't think anyone will. Why?

If you've ever been locked up (prison/ mental hospital/ buried alive), it really opens up your eyes to what it feels like to be trapped and completely hopeless. Kick and scream all you want, nothings helping. You begin to get scared and destitute. "I'm never getting out of here!"

This is america's political climate.

The Repubs are going to win anyway.  Just saying.  And if they don't, the far right screech will only become louder and more enraged than it currently stands.  The Dems would take the blame for the Iraq mess (as civil war will happen on "their watch") and a virulently angry mid-west would probably destroy their electoral chances for the next decade.

So would that be Pat LaMarche or Barbara Merrill?   I'm seriously considering voting for Napier for Governor.  I've actually chatted with him a couple of times.  He used to come in my store when I was working there.  I actually had to carry someting out to his van for him because he doesn't get around too well.  Anyway, he's perfectly kooky and nutty.  Seems like a good fit for Maine to me.   :-D

Its not so much the locale chapters as it is the far right
the churches organize their congregations and all the pro-life, pro-family, pro-(insert whatever)
and since only half the population of the states votes
that combined with "old time" republicans are usually enough to capture seats
that and never underextimate the power of re-districting

with the economy so crappy and dominante republicans now shown as corrupt, or sick perverted fucks, or just completely insane its possible they could lose the house or senate
i dont see them losing anymore then 5/6 seats though

I still think thats mostly a distraction, myself.  A concerning one, but a distraction.  It makes the Dems base feel good, that they're a threat "standing up to The Man", while in fact their party is bankrolled by The Man and they lose because the vast majority of the American electorate are mean minded little idiots.

Yeah, I have a feeling that the Dems have run out of steam.  I think they have a decent shot, still, at taking the House but I think the Senate will stay with the Republicans.  At the end of it all, though, the split in each house will be pretty much 49/51 at best.  Nothing will get done.  These next two years will be the Lamest of Lame Duck sessions.  Oh, and of course, the cable channels will immediately be talking about McCain vs. Clinton.

My thoughts:

Dems win Congress, lose Senate.

Capitol Hill stagnates for 2 years, no comprimises are reached, everyone is fully partisan, everything comes to a screeching halt.

2008 rolls around, and the Republicans say, "so, you voted Democrat in '06, and look what happened.  Nothing.  Vote for what's effective."

Republicans sweep '08 elections.

That's why I say...

I've figured out my voting strategy:
1. person will legalize dope
2. person is third-party
That covers two races in my state. For the other two:
3. Whoever is not encumbent.

The only thing that supercedes the incumbant rule is if I worked for the candidate and he was a major asshole, and lied about the military:
Fuck You Chris Wakim

Hmm, interesting strategy but if I followed that I'd be voting for Pat Lamarche for Governor and there's no way in holy hell that I will be doing that.

Legalizing pot sounds cool and all, but, you want to make sure you vote for someone who can get your roads and bridges repaired too.  Someone too focused on pot may not have the get-up-and go to get that done.

The Dems aren't evil enough to get into office.  The masses will only support a politician who foams at the mouth.  The neocons got a full-on slaughterhouse war going on.  What have the libs got?  Save the spotted owl?  The neolibs need to promise that they'll unleash Armageddon and "free" the world from its pathetic existence, if they're going to win.

I don't give a shit about roads and bridges. If I was high more often, I would drive less often, and the roads would be safe.

I know the incumbent thing might not sound good to some people, but I honestly believe that each politician is equally as worthless as this polar counterpart. As much as Republicans have pissed me off in the last 3-4 years, I refuse to turn to Democrats as an answer.

I'd vote for those aliens from Independance Day before I voted for Hillary Clinton.

Well, the Dems are hardly polar opposites of the Republican party.  Both are essentially neoliberal in their economic policy and one is more beholden to the Religious Right than the other.  Thats the problem with first past the post, it tends to bipolarity and each major party tries to take "the middle ground", making them even less different.

I decided not to vote for the non-incumbent. I stuck to 3 of my rules: legalize dope, third party, Fuck Chris Wakim. But when it came to an office that was of absolutly no gain or loss, I couldn't bring myself to vote for either lying bastard.

I figured it's enough to let them know that I will take the time to vote, but won't vote for lesser evil.

Not that it counts.
