Title: ATTN: Zurtok and the rest of us hippies
Post by: Eldora, Oracle of Alchemy on June 26, 2005, 09:33:45 PM
I found our home!!!!!1111!!!!!

And a definition of hippy

Click here for full quote (http://www.hippy.com/hippyway.htm)

QuoteSo being a hippie is not a matter of dress, behavior, economic status, or social milieu. It is a philosophical approach to life that emphasizes freedom, peace, love and a respect for others and the earth. The way of the hippie never died. There have always been hippies from the first time society laid down rules, to Jesus, to Henry David Thoreau, to John Lennon, to you and me. I believe there,Äôs a little hippy in all of us. It,Äôs just been repressed by our socialization process. We need to find it and cultivate our hippie within. Only then can we reach our true potential.

Peace and Love, Skip

I think this makes a lot of us hippies, including a lot of those who keep trying to use that word as an insult.

i think it's a bullshit definition of the term "hippie" used by someone who's trying to justify not washing their ass for a week.

You're just mad because you are realising you ARE a hippy and there is nothing you can do about.  Think about

1  Sex
2  Drugs
3  Rock n Roll
4  Freedom
5  Anti establishment

What about you ISN'T a hippy

funny, that sounds like the creed of every marginalized subculture I cna think of. To try and ascribe it exclusively to hippies is a bit of a stretch.

I love all of those things, HOWEVER, I bathe regularly, shave when appropriate, and I FUCKING HATE PATCHOULI.

therefore...

ME = MOST DEFINITELY NOT A HIPPIE

please not, however, that regardless of how much that particular subculture disgusts me, I have NEVER seriously looked down on anyone or thought less of anyone here for being a hippie.

Skip never claims that his definition only applies to hippies, he is just trying to describe what being a hippy is about, he is trying to break the stereotype of the stinky nonbathing nonworking long haired bum.  Not all of us are like that.  Though a lot of us still have long hair.

maybe the derivitive is what causes so much discursion.

Hippy/Hippie= Hipster

i view the whole "hippy" phenomena of the 60's mostly as a pop-culture
excusatory usurption of the preveous Hipster views and practices, and
i don't mean the bathing ones.

more the beat kniks and 50's poets. crazed "marijuana-abusing" jazz
musicians, ecclectic non-traditional painters, the people that were more
interested in the 'hey what's that?" than the "hey, who are you?"

in short, hippies (60's) are looked down on by their predecessors and
their successors mainly because most of them (particularly the ones that
got publicity) were stinky bums that weren't really hippies or Hipsters,
just attention whore conformists looking for a provocative mold to fit.

or not

Hippies Unite!  Or was that Untie?

Patchuli is NASTY, it in no way qualifies someone as a hippy because they like the stuff.

And, I believe in bathing everyday, and shaving most days.

HIPPIE HIPPIE HURRAY!

*blows a raspberry*

Apparently patchouli covers the smell of pot.  So does some fresh air or that ozone air freshener, that covers anything

Apparently patchouli covers the smell of pot.  So does some fresh air or that ozone air freshener, that covers anything

Actually, Patchouli only has an odor during its growth stage. The typical Patchouli smell disappears when the plant flowers. To keep the plant from flowering, it must be kept in 12/12 lighting (12 hours light/12 hours dark). Oddly enough, this is exactly opposite of Marijuana. MJ doesn't really smell while growing, but it does smell strongly once it blooms. To bloom MJ, it must be in 12/12 lighting.

Before the days of charcoal filters and ozone, the crafty guerrilla grower found that he could grow MJ and Patchouli in together and not have any detectable smell from outside. Of course, today, cops use much more advanced technology to find Pot so Patchouli exists more as a meme and throwback to old guerrilla tactics.
