Title: YUO: HOT SHIT OR NOT! (advice to noobs)
Post by: saint aini on April 08, 2007, 03:40:02 PM
(http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/1644/ann0079ll3.th.jpg) (http://img405.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ann0079ll3.jpg)

This is me fire breathing at a house party. Yes, that is real fire.  That is not an illusion or photoshop manipulating. Hot shit, you might say?

Yes and no.

I bring you this image because a number of those who shall not be named think they are the greatest thing since sliced bread, the hot shit, the uber true Discordian.  (Ich bilde tote ein "uber true Discordian".)

At the house party, yes. They never seen anyone breathe or eat fire live (and live).

At some of the theatre and fetish events I have gone to, I'm not yet on the radar for being considered for being invited to breathe fire because there are those who are far greater than I in this particular skill.  In different areas, I may be the one who is the cream of the crop, but I must remember always there may be one who is greater than I.

I'm cool with that.  I know my place.  I know my destination.  I know life is a journey.  I have other skills for the shows, the most important being enjoying the show.

My advice to those who shall not be named is as follows:

In your Mister Rogerstm Neighborhood, you may be the best of the best, the most creative, coolest kid on the block.  Here, on this caberet-esque stage, you're just an audience member until you prove otherwise.  Tip those on stage, but don't get on stage until you are ready for this stage.  You don't know where the weak floor boards or trap doors are until you have been here for a while.  The only way you can prove otherwise is by repeatedly demonstrating on small levels that we can trust and enjoy you on larger ones.

Your post count will not help you.  Your connections on other boards will not persuade me to alter my opinion of you on this board.  Only by your deeds are you judged worthy of being accepted into the fold as a friend or worthy of being abused until I am smiling again (and you will enjoy the abuse.)

Yes, we're interested in the Principia Discordia, but not so much as to go "ZOMG 23!" every time we see that damned number.

To breathe fire you must start with breathing water in the same manner.  It's safer and won't kill you.

In similar manner, play conservatively at first.  Convince us you use both hemispheres of your brain by being coherent about the Chao you see.  No one will be enlightened by you saying "MU" or speaking in duckspeak.  Then show us your true creative potential.  If you are not going to listen to any other piece of advice, at least put some effort into your posts.  Make them at least look like you took time to think, reflect, research or create.

I did not start fire breathing over one night.  It's been about a year since I started learning fire in general.  I have been burned by fire breathing, but not in ways that you might expect.  You see, when the fuel gets on you and stays on you for an extended period, it irritates the skin.  Swallow too much and you get pneumonia or the runs.  I have been lucky that I have not had that which shall not be mention happen.

You will get burned on these forums. It's par for the course. Anything worth doing comes at a cost to someone.

I'm still going through the images to pick out the best of the best.

I should have some posted tomorrow.

I support you and agree with you here Aini, but the subtext of your message worries me. I have a gag reflex for the "prove yourself to us" vibe. I don't like it when n00bs feel they have to demonstrate how cool they are to be 'accepted' into our folds.

What you're saying here is that these boards have social rules and norms, and that everyone should pretty much respect them. And I agree, 'cause that's how message boards work. But I think we walk a dangerous path when we say "don't be a weird noob" and at the same time "prove yourself to us".

For the record I've only been around since dec 06, and I've only seen about two ZOMG 23 n00bs. There's another type of n00b that should worry / has worried / will continue to annoy us, and we don't have a good meme to describe that yet.

I'll remind everyone that a certain n00b who won't be mentioned never said 23 or echoed any old PD jokes.

But that's all a big distraction from your main point, "post conservatively at first" which is right on the money. cheers.

There is always an idiot out there that will annoy. Annoyance is something you do to yourself - don't blame it on teh dickhead. These noobs are sent to test us and therefore the meme to describe might be something along the lines of 'puchbag' or 'crash test dumbass.

Now repeat after me: "punchbags are good. Punchbags test my calm, my stamina and my aim. Always will I give thanks for the punchbag and the opportunity it affords to feel better about myself"

ZOMG 23 in my taxonomy covers all of the nuts who think some obscure piece of something is the cat's meow, even if it's their own shit on their knees.

The "audience member until proven otherwise" line is more along the lines of demonstrate you are cool by being cool, not jumping in on the scene and trying to shock and awe with your craziest idea first.  They prove themselves by their restraint from the more dramatic methods until they have mastered the lesser dramatic methods.

I hate the shock and awe type of noob.

Yes, every society, no matter how anarchistic, has a social contract.

It's okay to be a weird noob, just please don't be a stupid weird noob until after you show us some intelligence so that we know your stupidity is parody and not a general condition of your fucked up life.

What of the path that says "be a weird noob"?  That hasn't worked out too well.  It's increased the post count and shook the baby, but at what cost?

I would rather see noobs told to temper their weirdness until they get a sense of what's going to work rather than using a brute force method in a fatally flawed attempt to find out what will make us lail while we're waiting for the next one to arrive.  A little weirdness can go quite a long way.

They are not sent... They find us.  That's a good thought channeled from Celine, Silly.

However, I dare say that we know too well about provocation.

:lulz:

You start by spitting water.  After you master the technique with water, you practice with fuel.  When you are sure of the technique with fuel, you introduce the torch.

Meh... I don't think there should be any set rules for how a new member should act at first.

You'll notice that most of the members here were quite ZOMGPINEAL23 to begin with.

As long as they get that out of their systems eventually, they'll be just fine.

Advice that can be ignored.

I only point out the way to Hell.

It's your decision to not go that way.

Dear n00bs,
You're not special. Noone cares. Good luck.

People either act like ass clowns and get flamed to death, or they just fit in. Look at Payne vs. Bhode. It's natural selection.

I still don't see the need to establish domninance on a forum though.

It's not so much about dominance, but about contributing constructively.  I'm tired of noobs showing up, posting nonsense that isn't half funny, and arguing with us when we tell them that it's not funny.

People, even so called "smart people" will have to test to see if the fire is hot for themselves no matter how many people say "don't stick your hand in the flame.".

I know for me it was almost like a dare just to see how much bullshit I could attract.

To quote hunter though, something like...

"Don't expect your experiments to run smooth when operating on a bunch of mental patients."

That derails from my original disdain about elitist statements, but I think it sits with relavence.

Thread is still good.  Some creatures are prone to ruining a thread with that statement no matter what I post in it, even if it was just a thumbs up.  I'm over it, I'm sure anyone who comes along and reads the thread will be too.

I support you and agree with you here Aini, but the subtext of your message worries me. I have a gag reflex for the "prove yourself to us" vibe. I don't like it when n00bs feel they have to demonstrate how cool they are to be 'accepted' into our folds.

I'm with Cram.  I think the message shouldn't be "prove yourself," it should be "Please, for the love of all that's sacred, stop trying to prove yourself."

It's the people who are trying to be clever; trying to be outlandish; trying to be funny; they do everything they can to "stand out" and prove they are different, just like everybody else; those are the ones who need to just chill out.  The lulz will come.  Don't try to force it.

2nded, or I guess 3rded.  Honestly, I think historically, at least as long as I've been around, those who don't "fit in" to our society here quickly realize it and move on.  Sure they may make some noise before they do but generally, they weed themselves out (e.g. MOC, Merchantofolbi, etc.)  I think it is inevitable for an awkward stage for a n00b when they first come, at least, those who have the gumption to start posting without a lot of lurking.

Also, I know this is a wee bit ironic, but I agree with Aini. I'd say more, but, hell, the only thing I can think of is other forums I've been on to compare it to. Oh well.

That still doesn't explain how that picture you posted relates to Aini's post any any conceivable way.

You want people to talk civilly, post something of value in "Or Kill Me" or "BIP".

Sheesh.  We'll treat you the way we see your posts as being.  If you act civil, so will we.  If you act like an intellectually pretentious douchebag, we'll treat you like one.  You act like a know-it-all asshole, we'll treat you like one.

It's pretty simple, really.

Posting that to Aini by bumping a month-old thread was civil conversation? You get what you give here on PD.com. If you give us intelligent conversation, you GET intelligent conversation. You post an incredibly rehashed picture that calls someone names, you get called on your shit and have it rained down upon you by all. YOU started the bullshit-rain dance after all. Don't be surprised when it works and the shit starts falling.

Now hold on.

I just read your last 60 posts.

In it I found:

- A story about telling a Jesuit to fuck off.  No one gave you shit about that.

- A story about semen, in which you didn't fully explain your thoughts.  Because of that, it started some questioning, which you got defensive about.

- A proposal about the BIP which was debated.

- A theory about hunter/gatherer vs Agrarian social culture stemming from food taboos, which almost everyone disagreed with.

- A bunch of pretty lame faux-motivational pics, which everyone responded to in kind.

So, exactly what are you complaining about?  We were civil, until you fucked yourself.

if you're going to stick around, you might try taking a break for a few days to let things  cool down. There are numerous people who've started off on a bad foot but ended up fitting in.

but
if you're going to stick around just to troll us and tell us how our commutiny should work and what jerks we are, then plz feck off 4 good. If you lurk a bit, you'll see we've had no shortage of this in the last few months and most of us have little patience left for that shite.

I didn't get anything lukey about the way he typed, other than the 'yoo are all wrong and im right' thing that I've seen way too many times to put that down to the same guy.

I'm still a bit of a noob with things like this tho.

I'm inclined to think it's Luke, due to the immediate attempts at attacking the board in general.

Speaking of the unspeakable, an Industrial Noise/Rock band from Saratoga Springs contacted me about doing some shows in Boston.  Naturally, I asked if they had heard about a certain musical act down there, supposedly pretty popular.

...They had never heard of him.  So much for being "noted and known" in a relatively small town/scene.

Well, if it is him, he has two different photobucket accounts.  Which of course is quite possible, especially if he thought it through.

You know I have this image of his performances.  There was this kid who used to come to this Open Mic show I hosted.  He didn't have any friends to play with him so be just recorded drums, bass, etc. on his own.  So when it came to performing he just set a boombox on a table and played with that.  That's kind of how I see you-know-who's performances.

I see him dressed like a clown in his Uncle's loser bar, monkeying with a drum machine while his "audience" ignores him as they drink cheap gin until they go home or pass out on the bar.  The floor isn't level, the carpet on the "stage" has vomit stains on it, and the bathroom has urinals totally filled with cigarette butts and turds.

Who's complaining?

Suck my dick is a tired phrase that people say before they get:
a) their dick sucked
b) their ass kicked
c) completely ignored.

"Psychological tests" are bullshit. So they manage to categorize your Neurological wiring...okay so what? Unless they use that information for good (ie: how to become more *inclusive* to the way a person already *is* instead of trying to force the newly "diagnosed" individual to conform) it's damned-near useless because people can't change their nature and the current system is designed only to make them feel ashamed of what that nature happens to be.

Occultus Forma Discordia
A Treatise on the Secrets of the Models of Discordianism

Forward

This is not The Truth of Discordianism. If you are looking for The Truth of Discordianism, you are a very silly person. This is not The Secret of Discordianism; if such a thing exists, you need to find it yourself. This is not even necessarily a True version of the Discordian vision as held by Omar, Mal-2, RAW or any other master of mayhem from the Early Days of Her Return. This is a treatise on an interpretation secrets of a model of Discordianism; particularly the model of Discordianism currently being used by this loose cabal of Chaoates which you have voluntarily stumbled into.

If you don,Äôt like what is written in these pages, then stop reading them. If you don,Äôt agree with our interpretations of models, then don,Äôt use them. If you simply want to run around spewing memes, then by all means don,Äôt let us stop you, just do it somewhere else. However, if you want to join our game, if you want to play with our toys, then assume, at least for the moment, that our game of Order hides a bigger game of Disorder. You can play or not, it,Äôs your choice. Do as Thou Will.

This document is designed to introduce you to our interpretation of a model. The model uses markers that you might be familiar with. However, don,Äôt confuse the marker with what the marker represents. A Fnord by any other name could still be a fnord (and a bit harder to trace back to Known Naughty NincomPOEEs). If you don,Äôt agree with the goals of the game (and the rules we,Äôre making up), then you probably won,Äôt want to play. So, before we waste any more of your time, let,Äôs talk about our goals.

We are a tribe of philosophers, hackers, theologians, magicians, scientists, artists, clowns, and similar maniacs who are intrigued with the possibility of modifying the thought processes of individuals,Ķ with our without their knowledge. If you firmly believe that the PD is a ,Äúhappy, hippy, everyone loves and accepts each other,Äù kind of book, well, you should probably stop reading right now. From our perspective, Eris rode on the back of Ares chariot, laughing and delighting in the chaos of war. If you don,Äôt want to explore that aspect of Chaos (as well as all the others), then take the blue pill and scamper off to some other Discordian forum. This doesn,Äôt mean you,Äôre wrong or right, it only means that you,Äôre not interested in our game. Do as Thou Will.

If you are of the opinion that Robert Anton Wilson, Mal-2 or Omar KNEW the truth,Ķ then you should probably go play elsewhere. Most of us have immense respect for those Chaoates that came before us, but we do not consider their word Truth or their ideas sacrosanct. Those great tricksters would be the first to tell you that neither they, nor their writings were to be considered as Sacred Cows. In Discordia there exists one Sacred Chao and she doesn,Äôt like competition.

This treatise is an introduction to our game, our ideas, our metaphors and our concepts. if we're gonna put that text somewhere in a 9-page thread, even if it's stickied, no n00b is going to find it.

My point is, of course, to drop it like a cluster bomb as a noob response.  That way, it's specifically targeted to the noob.  The message goes to the n00b, rather than the n00b going to the message.

Every time a n00b joins, post in every thread that has had a post in the last 6 months.

We've gotta be thorough.

i usually give it a very short glance and if it looks like the standard jabbering of legalese, i click agree.

if my eye caught a few mentions of "eris" or "discordia" when signing up for a discordian board, i might actually read it.

   Listen,
Maybe my infernal writings were perhaps not up to the bar of high dischord society as it is held here on said board.  Maybe perhaps possibly per chance there is actually some acorn of intelligence or purpose in what I have chosen to send to you all.  Now, I'm not writing this to attempt to sound like I'm not and idiot, or that I'm some sort of special orator who is better than you... I just needed a chance to see what I was getting into.  It is strewn across the astral plane that you hate the 523FnordPOEE form of dischordianship where we all began, so ur hostility is appreciated, your manifesto read and maybe even agreed with.  I just simply don't have the time to read everything on this board or sort through it all in order to see it for myself.  And for Goddess' sake I just wanted some attention... it's cold and lonely in the deep dark night.

so, thanks for the love, I'm deeply impressed with the hostile form it presented itself in.  Maybe someday I'll be able to look down on people as well as the lot of you

btw- I never even read the principia, and I don't wear my underwear on top of my head either (no matter what you've heard)

Also, I don't eat fire but I dig hot wings... Is that similar enough to fit in? Also, when did I start caring about fitting in? And when did I start typing my internal monologues? Also, I kinda wanna slip a 23 (and Pron, I heard that's bad. mm this topic seems a little harsh to me. maybe wish i didnt read it.

aint saini, yuo seem to be saying that we're all losers until proven worthy, and your immediate example is that you can do a very old stunt somewhat less spectacularly than the masters?
If the main thing is to ENJOY the cabaret then who do i need to prove anything to? I just want a laugh, and I can work out by myself that if i say stupid shit i'll be burned to cinders. isn't that enough?

will simply not being an arrogant cunt and perhaps only having something to say once in a while make you think i'm just another wannabe? will i be shunned or flamed until i post something that makes you think in a new way? no. i'm sure that happens rarely anyway because you're DISCORDIANS and im sure your minds are as open as anyones, similar to an anus that's been fucked four ways from boomtime with the big black cock of cramulus +5.
i respect all of you simply because you have found and believe in the one true religions, and i hope i can learn much more from you all without you thinking im a dickhead just cuz this n00b found the pd forums however many years after you found them.

please reassure me that this topic wasnt just started to say "hey potential n00bs, dont bother coming here unless you're the coolest person in your city, cuz we're all freaking awesome here, and we dont take kindly to the sub-par"

i promise to be reasonable if i offend anyone, but i do love this place already and so also promise to stick around longer than some of these previous jerks did, even if you don't think im cool enough. Ignore the 50 post rule (cuz i might be a while to get there), tell me what you think, but if i think you're unfair i'll tell you what i think too. i hope to earn all of your respective respects, but i dont expect to have to show you that i am the most unique thinker or biggest genius around.
i isn't.  i'm cool on my block but my block is full of lamers, unlike this place. (ok i DID get a good tip from this post, sorry)

and just for good measure:  FNORD!! THIS IS MY 23rd POST!!! (stick it)

You know the kind of people that are holier than thou, more Discordian than thou, and more thou than thou?  You know the kind of people who go overboard with Discordianism and feel they have to prove (to us nonetheless) how Discordian they are?  They're the ones I want to tell shut the fuck up and be themselves.

what passes for extraordinary in meatspace passes for common in discospace.

Can I start a topic?

http://www.pd.com is a bucket of lame.
However, typing in just "pd.com" redirects to http://www.corpwest.com/web/index.html :?

We should start a "Where are they now?" site for Rob Borsari (www.pd.com) since he seems to be having trouble keeping his actual site up to date.

Black men are not a problem any more.  It's the pasty white slut who looks like a fugly drag queen who thinks she's queen of the club that gets drunk and threatens violence against me despite it being blatantly obvious to any outside observer how any fight would go.  She doesn't yet get that Art of War quote that DirtyTime used to sling around all the time: namely, any battle which does not have the potential for positive gains is automatically lost.  I refuse to engage her because I have only to gain a ban from said club and she doesn't grok that she's likely to suffer a lot of pain for her ego trip.

In brief: still living in the dirty D, still living at the same house since July 2008, working for fabulous fags as their web developer, working with some very cool promoters and performers, and busy as ever.  I produced my first fetish show this February at the Dirty Show.  In short, I'm taking my performance career to the next level in a number of ways, including a trip to NYC this spring.  The video will be up shortly for your fapping pleasure.

There's an Art of War quote that brought me back here since I can't find it.

Actually, I learned enough kkkung fu to beat up fucking everyone who would cause me a problem without the usual fail of martial artists.  And thus, the blacks and the dirty sluts no longer bother me because I know they'll not put up much of a fight when I start fighting back.  But yeah, enough of the internet tough girl routine (despite the fact that chicks with chelsea dread hawks are just plain trouble).

"kkkung fu"?

Is that what Jesse Helms used to totally fucking Carol Moseley Braun when they fought to the death on the steps of Capitol Hill?

As usual, Aini's "advice to noobs" was "LOOK AT MEEEEEEEEEEEE!"
