unless you speak any other languages, you've basically limited yourself to english speaking countries there. If you go foreign with no knowledge of the native tongue, you will likely be a reject there for a really long time. There is also the factor that free health care, education and so on is AFAIK only available to citizens of the country they are being given in. Yes, and it's actually this aspect that made me guffaw the loudest.
There are still some countries out there (I think) whose economy is holding up reasonably and which offer their citizens awesome socialized health care and educational options. The thing to keep in mind is that those countries don't just hand out citizenships like candy. It's even hard for a USian to get into CANADA these days, for fuck sake. A strong socialized benefits system means that these countries have a vested interest in only naturalizing people who are bringing them strong assets and are not simply there to suck from the teat of the system. Some typical requirements are:
A college degree
A job already lined up in a growing field
Middle-class or higher earning potential
OR
Independent wealth enough to assure that you won't be a drain on their system.
I don't know if this is still the case, but about 5 years ago when a friend of mine wanted to move to Canada, since she didn't have a college degree, a portable business, or highly desirable job skills, she could have bypassed those requirements by having $100,000. She didn't have that, either, so she still lives in Oregon. Oh well! Canada might have been a bit of a disappointment, anyway.

all 4 of those criteria are covered in the Canadian Forces.

I was offered to be paid a regular force members salary, while going to college full time, which would have lasted three years. Once I graduated, I would have been required to complete another 4 years service. I forgot to mention that they flip the bill for everything. (I turned that offer down to get in asap, and have my training taught military style. bah..)
Once in, there are services on base where they will look after your youngins... they also give you one year of paternal leave.. if both husband/wife are in, that year can be split up however they feel like splitting it..
Medical care is only a doorstep away really. walk into the hospital or dental office any morning and you will be taken care of that day. in and out. everything is taken care of.
and well if you've picked a trade that has interested you, you'll definitely have plenty of time to work at it. :P
the only down side is, you'll have to be dealing with people who were crazy enough to join the military... :P

maybe for indigoblade, it's best is she moved to some horrible african war-ridden country, get in trouble there (shouldnt be hard), and then apply for political asylum in the Netherlands. if you can prove your life's in danger, it might speed up the process somewhat.
Isn't the Netherlands also quite overcrowded? Its got one of the smallest land available to population ratios in Europe, I believe, which is no doubt putting stress on housing prices, services and the immigration system, who will probably handpick those with the skills it feels the country needs and discard the rest.
Countries like France and Austria, on the other hand, seem almost underpopulated by comparison.

I have no fear of that. Apparently, China's factories are doing so bad and so many have shut down that the country has become a net exporter of oil. I actually did a double take when I saw that on the news.
