It looks like the media already have the playbook, at least for the Dems.  Remember Iowa?  They managed to turn that into an Obama/Hillary issue even though Edwards came second.  The press have also been urging Huckabee to get into some vicious fights with Romney and smear his campaign, smearing Huckabee when he didn't play by the rules set down, cheering him on when he did as they want.  Similar stuff has happened with Hillary/Obama, though Clinton's own nasty rumours campaign hardly needs any more urging on.  Some of it is obviously usual election hysteria = sales thinking, but some of it is the creation of rivalries in order to promote two-horse races in each party, and so control the outcome.

Every single time I log in to the AWS, there are no new messages. or sometimes only one new message. I am getting the feeling that it cannot possibly be that dead, so what am I doing wrong?

It was 2003. I was a junior in college at SUNY Purchase. Which was a kind of bizarre place at the time.

I was living in this really zany apartment that had some kind of lunatic hivemind. One night, my sidekick Keiran and I decided that we needed beer and realized that we didn't have any, but we were cool enough to just go get some.

So we put on these pirate outfits. Well to be honest, it was kind of like rockstar / pirate outfits. And we got this crossbow thing we made out of wood and bungee cord, and cutlasses, and we printed out all these stickers with a skull and bones on them. And then we disembarked.

Kieran and I went door to door one Saturday night, and we knocked on the door and said
ARRRRRRRRR we said, we're the PURCHASE PIRATES and we OWN this place. So listen here, ye yellowbellied landlubber, ye can JOIN OR DIE.

And here's the conditions: If you choose DIE then fuck yew and get yuor ass fucked full of AIDS. FOREVER. Instead: JOIN. You get a cool Jolly Roger sticker to put on your door. And you get the following privelege:

any time you're in trouble and need safe harbor, or any time you're bored and need something to do, you can go to any door with the pirate sticker. You'll be like a brother to them. And if any pirates come to your door in search of safe harbor, you have to take them in and treat them like they fucking rule. And by the way, if you want this sticker, you have to give us a tithing of beer.

And you know what, we got drunk night after night for free.
We gave out a few dozen stickers,
and we made a few gross friends.

It spread like stupidfire. After a few weeks, everyone had heard of the pirates and wanted to party with us. We had so many fun and ridiculous public spectales: public executions, rum for strangers day, ballpipe matches, larceny for charity, the beer for chicks foundation, the pirate charity fun, fiasco 100% of the time. and that's just the tip if the iceberg.

So that's how one small idea (let's go get some beer)
made us lead by example (I want to be a pirate too)
and turned into some kind of local explosion (hey you guys, let's all be pirates)

I just got signed up on digg and del.icio.us

Digg is useful in different ways, as far as I can tell.

First, it's only set up so that you can digg news, images, or videos. Not cool websites. (such as the OMGASM wiki) I've been digging them anyway as "news".

Digg has "upcoming links", "popular links" and "dropped links". When you post something, it gets put in upcoming. If it gets a certain number of hits in a certain amount of time, it gets bumped from the upcoming list to the popular list. Otherwise it falls into the dropped links list.

It seems like Digg is good if we want to swarm on an idea. If we digg something, we should follow-up by getting everyone we know with a digg acount to digg it.



At this point I'm starting to think we should have an OMGASM subforum. We only have like five or six threads about this project, but we should centralize discussion. It'll also make it easier for recruits to focus / find the relevant stuff.

Barumunk - I made some comments for you on the talk page of one of the articles you posted (by LHX). If you're looking to do some clean-up / fleshing out of the wiki, one of the things we could really use is someone to go through the current BIP pamphlet (see my sig) and update the wiki pages, as some are out of date. the TOC and contents of the wiki is based on the original BIP pamphlet, and there have been numerous edits since then.

We need to flesh out the GASMGASM, the project to spread the word about this project.

I want to have a GASM which is related to putting up posters, flyers, and meme bombs. The core page should contain links to all sorts of printable / distributable media. (like the Meme Bomb Collection, volume Aleph). Project name brainstorm: postergasm, memegasm, bombgasm, shrapnelgasm, seegasm, whoregasm, handgasm (as in handouts), word-of-mouthsgasm: WOMGASM.

The Web2.0 page needs a lot of cleanup. Maybe structured like this:
-What is Web2.0?
-Why is it the right tool for Discordians to use?
-What web2 apps are useful for us, and how to use them

tripzip we should talk about deez nuts.

Quite a talented little artiste. That's good enough to go in the WOMP vault.

Well I had an idea for BIP, and it was sort of covered in the golden sphere of possibility, but I was wondering (and would like to) rewrite a version of BIP but as a starting point invert all the "negative" words with positive version.... not to replace BIP OBVIOUSLY but as a (sub)version <-----------hahaha i like that word!!!!

... anyway, what you guys think (the idea of it that is)

lol - yeah be our guests and edit / release as much as you want! Pretty much all of the BIP pamphlet is Kopyleft, meaning you can edit it as you see fit. Uhm, except for Roger's rants. I think that if you mince his words, he'll skewer you through the internet somehow.

But this topic was talking about the OMGASM project. Do you feel up to helping out with graphics and writings and spreading the Good Word and stuff?
