Title: Offense
Post by: AFK on August 05, 2011, 02:37:01 PM
"I see the ruins, I know we're losing...." - Kory Clarke

There are people around who probably are still clinging on to some kind of hope.  An idea that this will all pass.  That we all shall awake to discover...

....that it was just a dream.

It was just a little ha-ha.  It wasn't real.  Things are really great, like they were before we fell asleep.  The old grizzled janitor came along and cleaned up the mess and got rid of the foul wretched stench of authoritative failure.

That hope is folly.  All should now fully understand what we are dealing with.  A time of trouble with no heroes.  Because they don't exist.  They aren't dead, they just never were.  Instead we have all kinds of fat fucks donning capes to come to our rescue.  But they are only fucking things further.  This much is crystal...fucking....clear!  Those who cannot see never will.

Now is a time for us to rally around each other.  We can have no realistic expectation that anyone with any meaningful sway is going to step up and right the ship.  It just isn't going to happen.  We must gather our strength and our forces to protect our own.  To give our youth some kind of shot at surviving.  Maybe put a little fire in their belly as well.  Just in case.....

We must be armed with our selves, and we must be armed to the hilt.  The shit is closing around us and its getting closer.  The filth of the inept is poised to take us all down, we must be ready to cast it aside and hold it off to the extent that we can.  This is about survival now.  Not just the physical and biologial but our very selves.

I've taken up my arms.  Take up yours!  Get ready!  These fucks aren't going to have us amongst the dead when their failure finally becomes fully realized.  We will not lie down and become a number.  They can destroy the country but they won't destroy us.

Fuck em....fuck em all!

Goodnight.

I like your words.

Nobody knows what else to do, right?

the poison keeps building up, nobody has a plan to clean us up. It's beyond us. It's in our architecture.

Best we can do is to form little islands where the Love is.

That is the blueprint I am working off now.  The game is broken and the spectators don't care.

The game has always been broken. The rules were made up as it went along. They kept adding rules and shifting goalposts to the point where so one on earth knows how to play it anymore. But for some reason that doesn't seem to stop most of them trying anyway. "What we need are more rules and change those ones and stick up another goal, over here ... no wait ... maybe over there..."

They tried to make life like manic miner, jump over that, run along here, pick up this, find the exit. Congratulations! You won! Game Over!

But it was never a linear platform game. Life is GTA. Buy a car, steal a car, earn some money, take some money, fuck money just take the shit you want and don't get caught.

It's always been a game you can play any way you goddamn well feel like playing. Anyone tells you otherwise? Fuck 'em, they obviously don't get it. They're in good company, there's a whole shipload of them all feel the same way. The good ship Civilisation.

Too bad it hit an iceberg centuries ago :lulz:

Complacency will set back in again,
Not that it really ever completely left.
People are very used to Hollywood endings.
The cavalry sweeping in to save the damsels in distress.
Must be why people sit.
Must be why people take it with a grin.
Well, maybe less of a grin and more of a dough-eyed, drool encrusted stupor.

The Hollywood ending is just as likely as acheiving the American Dream.
It's a goddamned rotten carrot stuck at the end of a stick on a platform moving forward while we drift backwards.

They usher in a formidable doom
Yet I shall stand firm
They will dare have our villages become awash
In the suffocating waves of red

Victory over I
Shall come at great expense
The fuckers will indeed bleed!

There is a quote by Gramsci I've always liked.  It goes, depending on the translator:

QuoteThe challenge of modernity is to live without illusions and without becoming disillusioned.  I'm a pessimist because of intelligence, but an optimist because of will.

What that means is, in your assessment of how things actually are, you have to be a scientist.  You have to try and see things as they really are, even if that reality is painful or difficult.  Necessarily, this may entail giving up hope of easy solutions and magic bullets.

But equally, it also means having the courage to attempt the difficult things, do the hard work to change the way things are.  Change is difficult, very hard, often dangerous, but it can be done and has been done before.  But you have to know where you are and what options you have before you can consider it.  You have to know what strategies are likely to work, what are likely to fail and what your endgame is.  Which brings you right back to pessimism of the intellect and living without illusions.

It's a tricky balance.

He wrote it in prison, while locked up by Mussolini for being a prominent Communist.  So he likely had a lot of reasons for pessimism at the time.

It sounds rather a lot like faith...which to some seasoned post-modernists always sounds equal parts deranged, foolish and foolhardy.  Given human history.  But I like the quote you gave above, as well, Cain...it inspires us to not give up just yet.

RWHN, nice OP.  Wish you'd write more, man.
