ITT: We appreciate copyright horseshit.

For example:

The sad thing about today's new YouTube/Viacom document dump? That the e-mails cited in it were written by adults.

Neither side comes out looking terrific—which was also true the first time the two sides aired their dirty laundry in public.

So here you have it—a short course in becoming a media mogul:

    * Viacom quotes YouTube employee Maryrose Dunton telling an engineer to "'forget about the email alerts stuff' precisely because 'I hate making it easier for these a-holes' - referring to copyright owners - and 'we're just trying to cover our asses so we don't get sued.'"
    * Viacom complains that YouTube employees "sneered at rights holders as 'copyright bastards' and 'a-holes.'"
    * Google retorts that Viacom can't complain about this language, and it quotes numerous Viacom execs to make its point. Sample outbursts include, "fuck you, you Google bastards," "bastards at Google are harassing me," and the eloquent "fuck those mother fuckers."
    * A Viacom VP even complained about the "fucking assholes" at YouTube—because the company "enforced its repeat-infringer policy concerning a Viacom marketing account that had received multiple take-down notices from Viacom's legal department." The lulz, they are here in spades.
    * Viacom top brass wrote e-mails with more exclamation points than my niece would even consider decent. They also had what Google calls an "obsession" with buying YouTube.
    * Case in point: "I WANT TO OWN YOUTUBE. I think it's critical, and if it goes to a competitor.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" That was from MTV Networks head Judy McGrath.
    * Viacom CEO Tom Freston wrote, "If we get UTube... I wanna run it." McGrath responded, "You'll have to kill me to get to it first."
    * Freston on his own mergers & acquisitions team: "No M&A team in recent history could have a poorer record than us. We are a joke... and our failed judgments and heavy handed behavior have cost us HUGELY."

Perhaps most interesting, out of all this juvenile nonsense, was a document dug up by YouTube. It came from a training manual targeted at user-generated content (in which Viacom sites have their own interests).

The first lines read: "User generated content should never be monitored. Something that can't bear enough repeating is that the User Abuse Team and Atom Entertainment in general, does not and should not, actively monitor any of its web sites for content violations regarding content submitted or generated by its users." [Update: Viacom says that this policy was drafted by a site it acquired and that the policy was changed after the acquisition. Viacom's current policy is to screen uploaded content.]

As for the main arguments here, they look like a lot more of the same, with each side trying to prove that the other's "smoking guns" are actually irrelevant drivel. If one thing emerges from the documents, it's that the two sides do not like each other.

Now that the case has really gotten ugly, kissing and making nice looks decreasingly likely.

Some asshat has created a Discordian subreddit:
http://www.reddit.com/r/PrincipiaDiscordia/

:asshat:

This reddit page can be used to index, vote on and give voted on feedback about the things you just voted on.
This reddit can also help expose PD.com and it's efforts to the Reddit community, many of whom would probably appreciate some of the asshattery that goes on here.

We'll see how it goes, but this could be a good opportunity to get new members and to get a good idea of what everyone things of the content on the forums and other related projects like BIP and the GASMs.

Up to you guys. People have started to complain about it, so voice your opinions on the matter here.

EDIT: Extending the original statement after talking to more posters about this.

From what I have seen amongst the other mods and the admins, this is kind of regarded as everybody's board. This is why we generally have a hands-off approach when it comes to deleting posts and banning people. If something on the boards is pissing you off, you should say something about it.

I don't just mean everyone who has been privately bitching about Nigel's rampant on-again-off-again shit-stirring either.

If you think I or any other poster is fucking the board up, say something. You're not going to get banned and you might catch shit from the posters you're complaining about but that shouldn't stop you from voicing your opinion, especially if it's a well-reasoned one.

That said, it's been fun but I'll be ignoring Nigel's crazy ass for the time being. I've gotten a lot of PMs here and in chats saying that I shouldn't indulge her in her drama-hungry antics so that's just what I'm going to do. If she wants to continue fucking up everybody's posts, that's on her.

I apologize if I have pissed off anyone who isn't Nigel.

QuoteBy JAMIE ROSS

PHOENIX (CN) - A man died from a brain hemorrhage after Sheriff Joe Arpaio's officers refused to give him his anti-seizure medication and put him in a cell with a concrete floor and walls, his daughters say.
The family says the Sheriff's Department knew of Joseph Phillippi's medical history because he had suffered multiple seizures when he was denied his medication during a previous incarceration.
Phillippi had been arrested for trespassing and was taken to the Fourth Avenue Jail after he was found unconscious, shaking and convulsing in a woman's yard, his daughters say in the federal complaint.
They say their father did not receive emergency treatment until almost an hour and a half after he suffered the seizure and slammed his head against the concrete floor. Phillippi had been prescribed Keppra, an anti-seizure medication, his daughters say.
After Phillippi's seizure, officers "opted to accept transport within 30 minutes without lights and sirens" instead of seeking emergency care to expedite his release, his daughters say.
By the time Southwest Ambulance arrived at the jail, Phillippi "was not oriented to place or time, was dazed, tremulous, and diaphoretic."
According to the complaint, Arpaio's officers use a "quick release" procedure "to dump inmates with significant and emergent medical conditions so that any emergency medical provision would become the financial responsibility of the 'released' inmate rather than the county."
Even though Phillippi was injured during his incarceration, Arpaio's medical staff "told the ambulance dispatch that this was a 'private' call, and approved the 30-minute response time" though Phillippi "needed immediate medical care," according to the complaint.
Sara and Angela Phillippi seek punitive damages for wrongful death and negligence. They are represented by Joel B. Robbins and Anne F. Findling with Robbins and Curtin.

FUCK! HOW DID THINGS BECOME SO BAD!? HOW DID I GET HERE?!

Through your own goddamn choices, that's how. You can choose to piss and moan about it. You can choose to be a passive-aggressive drama-whore. You can even choose to take your problems out on other people, but at the end of the day none of that is going to help you. All of your choices have consequences and the consequences don't fucking care if you don't want to deal with them or if you're incapable of coping in a reasonable way.

You're a fucking adult, deal with your problems. It's nobody else's fault. YOU made the decisions that brought you to where you are. Maybe you made some bad choices. It's OK, everyone does. Welcome to reality.

Shitty things WILL happen to you. People you count on will disappoint you. People will abuse you; maybe even try to kill you. This happens to all of us. When we deal with these events in a shitty way, refuse to learn from our personal tragedies, and treat people who aren't responsible for our problems like shit, it's not going to make anything better. In fact, it's only going to create new problems.

All the little choices a person makes in a day come together to form their environment. These choices can be so seemingly insignificant that we make them without even thinking. To the person making them, they might not even realize they're making them, but the consequences know all the choices we make, no matter how insignificant they might seem.

So, you can keep on doing what you've been doing. You can keep repeating the actions that brought you to the place you're at or you can own up to it and take a hard look at who you are and the choices you've made. You can start making connections to your actions and their results. Things that might have seemed insignificant to you at the time may have had profound consequences that you didn't see before. You might even learn how to stop repeating the behaviors that got you here.

Can you control the world? Of course not. The world can, and probably will, shit on you.

If you're smart you might be able to take steps to mitigate the damage when the world does shit on you, but the only thing you can control is how you react to the world. The consequences don't give a fuck about you, but that doesn't mean they can't help you. You can learn from the consequences and you might be able to transcend your horrible little monkey. You could even become self-aware one day like one of those new drones the military uses or a furby.
