I guess it comes out to be different from communism in that the individuals fortune is still tied to the company and not the state, which means it easier to jump a sinking ship, but still has the same 'people are not ants' issues overall.

But if wikipedia is right then what the hell does universal health care have to do with socialism?

two things come to mind.

wikipedia is not fully right or nothing.

There is a lot more stuff on the wikipedia entry on Socialism than just the basic "workers own their company" The word itself seems to be a very fluid word, sometimes it just means what I stated, sometimes it means "stuff for the people," sometimes it's "communism lite," and other times it's "another communist plot."

"Oh shit...N Korean just hacked the DoD from how many terminals?"

"Fucking Farmville!!!!!"

Cuz Facebook unlike Myspace and other sites is NOT blocked on most DoD networks for whatever reason.

I blame Farmville.

My understanding of socialism is that the workers own the company they work for and share equally in the profits and goods manufactured.

How is that different from communism then?

And are you sure you aren't stuck on the 19th century meaning?  My understanding was that socialism meant that over a century ago.  Words do change.

1. fuck if I know. I never bothered to puzzle out the differences betwixt the two. I always figure they were the same thing or same class of thing.

and
2. That is very likely, although wikipedia -snicker- does agree with me to an extent.

All I have ever gathered from my readings on socialism is that it's about the people owning the places they work for, which gets broadened out to the People, as in the nation or state, owning the Stuff and everyone gets a piece.

How much would a highly skilled salaried employee expect to make?

Or you could try some of the  lame ass, brain washing military running cadences.

I have to add this - if you're planning to add running to your routine, make sure you're doing it right and I'm sure I'm not the only one who wasn't doing it right. There really is right way and a wrong one and the wrong one will give you shin splints which are a bitch. If you keep going with shin splints, you can pull the muscle out of the bone, or so a doctor told me.
Doing it the right way makes running easier, more effective, and less awful. Personally, I'm getting to the point where I enjoy it and I used to do anything I possibly could to get out of it.

hm, most of that information seemed to be pretty common sense to me. although I'm already aware of my posture most of the time anyway, thanks to yoga.

the bit that's new to me came from behind one of those links, that your "stride turnover", the number of steps per minute should most optimally be 180 per minute?? that sounds like an awful lot to me. I've been running to music ever since I started (well I did before, but only with music it became any fun for me), see my mixes thread in Bring&Brag for examples, but they're all at 142-145 BPM, and I do take a step at each beat, helps me keep the pace. It's a bit of an odd suggestion anyway, since afaik, you're going for the optimal physical pendulum (rod) swing of your legs, which has a lower frequency when the legs are shorter. Also there's very few music that sounds good at 180BPM. I could speed up some of my mixes, and just try it out, see how it works, but from when I got started I found the higher BPMs didn't feel right, I actually moved back a bit from 145 to 142-143 because it felt more comfortable. But if they're right about a faster stride having less impacts on the joints, then I guess it's worth it. But really, 180BPM sounds like a fuck of a lot, I wonder if I could even keep up with that... are there any other sources quoting this number? Or maybe a table corresponding to leg length?

Find some that sound good at 90bpm?

Or ignore that bit of drivel. Sounds like someone who was brainwashed by military double time march bullshit.

But 180 is not that fast.

The best parts of CA are the ones in the middle of nowhere.

That is wrong on at least two levels.

Ya, that a serious fucking violation right there. And from the sound it of, this was an AIT unit, ie fresh Soldiers who just completed Basic and were still getting acclimated to the Army. That kind of shit boils my blood. More so because I attended AIT at Ft Lee. I never had to deal with anything like that, well the fucking near constant 'barrack maintence' and 'no pass for you' shit, but none of thise 'you are going to marched to some fucking Christian rock band bullshit'

Is the old pulp stuff worth reading?

*Got some third hand Doc Savage books 15 years ago and still hasn't read them.

Some is, and some I'd expect would be trash similar to the trashy paperbacks made now. Bear in mind that Edgar Rice Burroughs is a pulp author, and his still gets republished.

You have to listen to Christian Rock
:x

http://www.religiousrightwatch.com/2010/08/us-soldiers-punished-for-not-attending-christian-concert.html

QuoteFor the past several years, two U.S. Army posts in Virginia, Fort Eustis and Fort Lee, have been putting on a series of what are called Commanding General's Spiritual Fitness Concerts. As I've written in a number of other posts, "spiritual fitness" is just the military's new term for promoting religion, particularly evangelical Christianity. And this concert series is no different.

On May 13, 2010, about eighty soldiers, stationed at Fort Eustis while attending a training course, were punished for opting out of attending one of these Christian concerts. The headliner at this concert was a Christian rock band called BarlowGirl, a band that describes itself as taking "an aggressive, almost warrior-like stance when it comes to spreading the gospel and serving God."

sounds more like an issue with that specific CG. I have never had any issues opting out of anything optional. Sounds like these Soldiers need to raise a stink. However, the article does not state how they were punished, and what else was going on at the event.

Apparently being sarcastic, exercising, not paying attention in church and, strangely enough, visiting Asia are all signs that your husband is secretly boning other men.
