Well, not technically true. I'm trying to get into a more suitable sounding voice for podcasting, and I seem to actually be able to record mp3s, to my personal astonishment.
The only problem I am having is ideas. I mean, I could record rants and similar stuff from here, but I feel that lacks the personal touch. Suggestions/ideas?
Record yourself having sex.
Violette scares me. I'm not ready to risk her wrath, especially with the France v All Blacks game coming up.
Edit: I'm thinking something more radio-esque, maybe. But that brings in the problem of material
Fake news reports from the field?
Could be. How do you reckon a mix of wierd news, Discordian online shennanigans and (possibly) real news would go down?
From you, I think it would work.
Also, considering you're one of the few people I feel has a good grasp on international politics, a few comments/observations/rants on that might be fun.
Thanks. Always nice to know at least one person approves of the idea. :D
Maybe. I need to work on my delivery somewhat, though, before any real rantage. I'm currently working on theme music though, trying a few tracks out, fading them in as an intro, which is interesting..
What seems to have worked for me is to try to put on a slightly different voice (for me, a slight southern twang). That helps me slow down my words & exaggerate the delivery.
But mainly, try not to rush through the words, even when you're excited.
Yeah, I've found that when doing talks in general as well. I think I've got to get used to this mic too, that'll help.
How about an interview/variety type show. Either you doing multiple voices or getting someone else in on the act. For example, I think the Enrico Show in audio form would have been mega mittens.
Could work...we'd either have to script it in advance or use Skype or something though...I certainly wouldn't be adverse to having someone else working with me on it.
There are lots of us who would like to help, the issue is where we all are I guess. Kind of hard to interview someone thousands of miles away and get a good recording!
But hey, a call in show portion would be cool. Wait, it could be scary too
What do you need people to do? It's easier to volunteer for something when you know what it is.
At the moments, I'm mostly interesting in what people want to hear. Market research.
As for interviewing, if someone can find a feasible, cost-free and simple way to do it, then I'll be interested.
[effort]
You could also record your half, email it to someone, and they could record their half, and then the two could be mixed together.
[/effort]

Mix in some fake news too. But
believable fake news.
And I very much would like to hear a report on the world of Discordian online shenanigans.
I agree with LMNO in that I'd like to hear your spin on int'l political issues.
yeah make a report on all the trolling stuff that's been going on
act like you're reporting live from the ruins of TCC
have shouting mobs and explosions in the background (if possible with your sound editing program try to equalize down the 1000-4000 Hz range, that's where the intelligible bit of voice resides, around and about)
also resist the temptation to add reverb to your voice ;-)
and vocoders
lail.
I like the idea of the ruins of TCC though. I might be able to rip some war film footage from YouTube or something, I know a site which can convert it to mp3 format.
If you want inspiration, there's a really great audio to be listened to here: http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/Fisher_Price:_A_Retrospective (http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/Fisher_Price:_A_Retrospective)

Cool. The only comment I'd make, and it maybe just my laptop's speakers, but the sound effects seem to drown out your words in a few places. Otherwise, good show.

3 things:
1. You have a very sexy voice.
2. Hold the mic 3-4 inches away from your mouth; it will reduce the pops and breath noises.
3. LOL.

Holy Crap is that an understatment.
Americans always say that
But yeah, I realized that with the mic as well, though this one seems a bit...tempermental. Apart from that, I just have to tweak the volume and I think I'm set.
Thanks, constructive criticism is exactly what I wanted.
Home-made pop filter:
1 wire coat hanger
1 old pair of panty hose (ask violette first, your wierdo)
Bend one end of wire hanger into a loop about 4"-5" in diameter, leaving the rest straightened out.
Slip the hose over the loop, creating a screen.
Place filter between your mouth and the mic (it helps if you have a mic stand for this), a few inches from both.
Mic ---> Filter ---> Mouth
This should help with the vocal splosives.
That sounds like a lot of effort for a Friday afternoon. I'll give it a go though, thanks.
Oh, and make sure Violette isn't wearing the pantyhose when you try to shove a bent coathanger in them.
Could cause some consternation.
Too late.
I think my nose is broken
LAIL.
I think podcasting may be put back a few days, unless you want to listen to me cough and blow my nose for an hour.
This cold is fucking persistent. And yes, I'm taking all the traditional (and not so traditional) cures.

have you tried the Pterodactyl Handler's recent remedy (http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php?topic=10870.330)?
APPARENTLY IT WORKS
I'm going to stick to Ibuprofen, strepsils, hot drinks and oh so soft balm tissues, thanks.
I might have a curry later though, I've always found that helpful when the cold is nearing an end (like it is now. We're turning the corner on my Immuno-defence system. Major combat operations are over and my cells will treat the conquering white blood cells by throwing flagellum).
Do not deny the power of a warm solution of salt and sodium bicarbonate snorted directly up both nostrils (yes, baking soda; didn't know about THAT secret ingredient did you now?). Use a squirt bottle if possible, it's much more efficient.
You have to hang your head off the edge of the bed or couch. Or you might get the solution all over the floor.
whatever happened to good, old-fashioned suffering?
I decided it sucked balls and that the power of modern medical advances should help me instead.

Deepthroat training, ITT.
Shit. For some reason my mic wont record. It might be broken, I'm not sure. I was messing with some voice alteration software the other night, thinking it might come in useful. Now I've checked my preferences and I'm using the Conexant sound card as both input and output, but nothing records. And its not a problem with Audacity, because Skype wont do anything either.
Suggestions?
Edit: bought a new mic and it still wont work. I'm really stuck now.
I had a similar problem not too long ago. I recently bought a USB mic to replace the one my cat chewed through. Anyhoo, I changed the settings in the control panel and it still wouldn't work. I think I had to actually change some settings in the actual music software I was using. However, your issue seems more systemic so it's probably something different entirely.
make sure the track record options in your software has the soundcard you are using set as the record device
its a common mistake
Yeah, it might be that the computer is looking of the mic in the wrong place, or the internal mic isn't selected.
Or, you busted it.
I think it has the mic selected as the record device. At least, in Audacity, it says microphone up in the top right, and under the I/O preference settings, I have my sound card selected there.
[Asshole Tech Support, Inc]
Did you try to reboot your computer?
[/Asshole Tech Support, Inc]
I tried system restore, in case the sound card had burnt out (even though it obviously hadn't, since I've been listening to Kayne West and some live Kyuss material all day).

Same file, different download methods.
sweat
thats one of my favorite of your blogs as well
is it just me or is there a strange delay or reverb though on the file
It records as .wav, and the sound quality is not best, I will admitl
What up, bitches?
I've got it working again.
OSHI-
You better get your ass on Spagspeak tonight.
I cant use Spagspeak.
However, I have commandered a private AOL chatroom which works more easily (just been testing it in IRC now). All you need is an AIM account.
Cool, I'll jump in when I get home, then we can all continue to make fun of each other's accents and talk smack. (But really we're just helping Triple Zero with his English. Seriously.)
Srsly.
I'll be working on my essay and flirting with Lizzie, so I probably wont be in for too long. But I'll certainly take a break some time during the night and say hi.
We can help you with your essay. Srsly.
so far i've been unable to get the microphone working in flash/AIM, though :-/
What about Skype? There are a couple other microphone-oriented chat programs out there, as well. Skype is generally the easiest to use, though.
My University server seems to be blocking it from working.
AIM does work, however, for some reason.
Once I'm finished with this server, Teamspeak and Skype will be better.
skype is buggered up on my buggered up version of windows :)
it would probably work on linooks tho.

Your University is fucking Fascist.
Teamspeak and Skype both run on linux...
However, I'm currently beta testing a solution for Maybe Logic which might work (assuming I set up a permanent development server). Anyway, there is a new Open Source server called Red5 which works just like the Flash Media Server (but is not thousands of dollars). Anyway, that along with any number of existing flash chat tools makes for a pretty decent, self hosted solution.
It works pretty well so far, but I've only tested with 10 users, audio/text only and they were all here in the states. Dunno if International would increase lag or not.
Oh I dunno Suu....they hate IRC, torrents and Skype, but they let me go on jihadists recruiting sites and download porn and music all day long...
They want to make sure you're happy as long as you listen to good music while fapping, and um...do your homework of course.
As for social interaction? Fuck that of course.
