Techmology and Scientism / Re: simulating a brain
March 07, 2008, 01:05:09 AM
The first time I saw news about this project, I thought, they'll never reach the level of complexity needed to simulate human concious processes, and not only that, but they're trying to run it on computers.

Now that I see more detail, that the connections are actually simulating a full neural network of "synapses" and how they are truly modeling it off of neural physiology, it is much more plausable and interesting to me.

The question is not can we, the question is, should we?

You know just enough about the history of this board to be dangerous, and no where near enough to understand its social and cyclic dynamics.

Don't you have a family roger?  Why do you spend so much time playing bullshit games on the internet?

I don't see any reason to grace this with an answer.

Does anyone else?

The way he worded that? Hellz no.

Dammit. I wanted this to be /over/ with. So tired of hearing people jabber about who sucks more, hillary or barack, and who is teh awesomest. Worse when its people you otherwise like and respect talking this way. (Not refering to anyone here, but to IRL people.)

Its as bad as dealing with the constant talk of the Packers before the last superbowl.  :x

Or Kill Me / Re: Snow Laughing Matter

Maines a costal state. Therefore that much snow that would last that long is unlikely. Lots of snow at one time, sure, but then you would see some meltage due to ocean currents and air masses.

Maybe the gulf stream is dying already?

Not to be anal, but LSD doesn't really replicate schizophrenia. When it was first being used in psychotherapy, therapists thought it could be used to empathize with schizophrenics and share their experience. That proved to be ineffective as LSD doesn't cause prominent symptoms of endogenous psychoses (generally, schizophrenias and related psychoses) such as catatonia. Acid is fun, though.

'Twas a flippant joke. My friend is schizophrenic, I can't see any "fun" in being able to be temporarily schizophrenic.

Nothing fun about hallucinations and delusions combined with paranoia.

1) I need to spend more time hanging out on PD.com. This thread is proof of that.

2) I need to read a book about the 8 circuit model one of these days.

Quotethen what in the hell else can you possibly judge it by?

Um, content?

You said it yourself.

I don't know about you, but when buy or borrow a book, its with the intent to read it, not to stare at the cover. Most of the time at the university library the pretty dust cover is removed anyway.

Do you read every book you see?

Do you judge every book you see?

I usually look first at the title. In nonfiction, the title is something informative about the contents normally. I next might look at the author. If the title and the author interest me, I open the book and check the copyright page, usually there is a subject description of a few words. Once I know that, I flip through a couple of the chapter headings.

Most of the books I read would be considered dry by many people's standards.

The point is, the judgment is on the content, and not the cover. The title and author are something that stand alone apart from whatever cover design there might be. Seldom will you find a book without a title on its spine.

awesome.

i don't quite "get" the second one .. a see print cards, chakras (he/they got the colours right! :) )and a belt .. or is that from a straightjacket?

pebbles

a bunch of pictures .. a car, "PRIDE", pilot, little boy, priest, girls covered in blood, boy with gun shooting his mirror image, someone screaming ..

and the filename says "rose" ..

nop i don't think i can figure it out. maybe it has something to do with transgenderism confusion, and that's why i don't get it?

Okay, how I understand it:

The computer hookup is like a connection to cosmic conciousness (note the wires in the shape of the symbol for Om) which trancends attactment (the pictures in the background, symbolizing different forms of attactment and suffering), a state of enlightenment (note the white light, the chakras, and you can't see them, but there are 2 more stones, making a pentagram which may symbolize the five chinese elements) which removes you from the bindings of said attactments (the belts).

I don't know why they called it rose.....
