I suppose I'll use this thread as a repository for the arts and such I turn out, for your potential viewing pleasure. Enjoy!
Some of them are cropped a bit funny because they don't quite fit into my scanner. But we'll make do.

Swiped that last one for a new netbook background. I dig your style.
I like it all a lot!
OCTOPI!OCTOPI!OCTOPI!
My tastes generally run with what you've got here (I hesitate to say cute, because that sounds childish. But I like cute. Elegant comes to mind but it seems like a hamfisted word. Delicate? Yes maybe that's it.), and I enjoy the subtle disturbing bits. Like the bloody leaf.
WHY IS THE LITTLE LEAF BLOODY?

Don't worry, all of those are flattering. I'm glad you like them. :)
Damn those very pretty to look at (very soothing to). You definantly have a unique approach. How long do these usually take?
You
are very talented. Wow, a pie.
Fuuuuucccck.
Yes. good.
Awesome!

Just practicin' my calligraphy. This one's a poem, called the Iroha, which is a pangram of the Japanese syllabary. I think I messed up on the first character of the leftmost column, ゑ, though.

And here's a photo of some paperwhite narcissus that are in the house right now, such as in my avatar pic. I like their orange anthers.

Pretty!
I LIKE!!
THUMBS UP ALOT!
After like 20 sad attempts I managed to copy a few lines from Tsurezuregusa which I think is called Essays in Idleness in English.
"Is the cherry to be viewed only at its height, or the moon only when it is full?
To yearn for the moon through falling rain, or to be shut away indoors and miss spring's passing can be still more deeply moving."
"In the spring, the dawn"

I joined the calligraphy club at school (lol ima nerd)
This is what we did.

More :mittens:
Beautiful work. I crave more!
Thank you, you're all too kind! I'll make sure to upload arts as I make them. Most of time I just do doodles and whatnot, hardly worth mentioning, but on occasion I'll do something worthwhile.
I'll share those with you.

This one's a remake of a picture I drew in 6th grade.
This was for a school project, in which I mashed up Henry Matisse's The Dessert: Harmony in Red with a woodblock print whose name I can't recall.
It's a large piece, with eye-raping colors.
:mittens: :mittens: :mittens: :mittens: :mittens: :mittens:
that is awesome. i want it on my wall. lol

Wow. NICE.
Very nice! You've pretty much nailed Matisse's color palette. I spent a 4 hour painting session recreating one of his works (also for a school project), and I found his attitude of "If it looks red, paint is AS red. Don't waste your time mixing colors trying to get it to 'look right'," very refreshing.
Thanks, you guys! :)
The funny thing is that when working on a picture, I often don't like it at all. Because as I work on it, I stress over all the little mistakes and places I think I could have done better. I see my "hand" all over it. It's only after maybe a few weeks when the piece has been put out of mind that I like it, because that's when I can look at it in a more objective light.
I should probably also mention that criticism is very much appreciated. After all, this thread shouldn't just be about tooting my own horn.
A lotus flower, Nelumbo nucifera. You can eat these, by the way.

It's very pretty Nast. The uh, the green mass you have the flower sprouting from. Is it intentionally a crotch? Still, very pretty.

The green mass is its leaf. It wasn't intentional, but as you know, plant matter is rife with suggestive themes.
I mean, just looking at Georgia O'Keefe's work, you would think that the woman never had her mind out of the gutter.
I made a cup! I took a ceramics class, and this is the only thing that I made the entire semester that I actually like.

Here's a detail of the glaze near the bottom. It came out all iridescent and blue, which I think is attractive -

That's a fantastic mug.
Nice work.
Eh. It's iri-decent.

What are those dark streaks that look like bamboo leaves or grass?

That pun had a chance but you blue it.
I think the colors, texture and speckles are great.
I would cherish the fuck out of that thing.
I can tell you're green with envy for my wit.
Another slant pun and things may get violet.
I'm finding all your puns to be extremely unpalette-able. :argh!:
@Net: Thanks! The dark lines are supposed to be aquatic plants.
What I learned about ceramics is just how unexpectedly things can turn out. The piece you worked really hard on can end up poorly: the glaze can run, the clay could crack, your hand could slip a little while trimming it, so you can't get very attached to things. But I like this one, and gave it to my mom for Mother's Day. :)

Dynastes hercules.
I think all kinds of rhinoceros beetles are adorable, so I drew one.

When I was in Oregon a few weeks ago, we took a day trip to the redwoods. It's funny how even in the midst of all those grand trees one of the most engaging things for me was these little translucent beasties, no bigger than my thumbnail. There were also banana slugs (<3) , but the pictures are less interesting, if not more yellow and phallic.
What are they? They're beautiful.
I have no idea. Some kind of fungus? A slime mold, perhaps?
Interesting. Looks kind of like candy.

A mutated Gelatinous Cube?!
Yay! Me and a few others from school got our calligraphy displayed in a resort in Nara, Japan. It sounds like a big deal, but it's apparently quite common. They need something to fill the walls.
They even thoughtfully included a picture of me caught wearing glasses:
A rather literal translation:
"In autumn, the evenings. When the glittering sun sinks close to the edge of the hills and birds fly back to their nests in threes and fours is moving. A flock of geese, distantly visible, flying in formation is very delightful. When the sun is finally set, I need not mention the sound of the wind, the sound of the insects."
Aw, cute. And the calligraphy's quite nice, too.
Pretty boss thread, Nast.
