Or Kill Me / Re: There are dreadful things.
« on: Yesterday at 05:10:19 am »
There are knives, yes, and guns. Axes and hammers, the weapons of the civilized. Tools for soft things without iron hides, mortar-shell minds, teeth that can cavitate the interstellar medium.

There are a million dooms, countless terrible ends, and more ways to suffer than there are ways to die.

But there is also time. Patience. Lying in wait, predator-languid in high places or perched like gargoyles, watching the comings and goings of the flock.

There is the knowledge that you are watched. The cold feeling of a LAM's static-hazed light brushing an outstretched hand. Reflections in the trees when the lights gutter and die. Breathing in the crawlspace. The soft clatter in the walls.

There are the trace fossils, dried mud from the bedroom window to the kitchen and back. There are the restless nights hearing rustling in the hedges, a barking dog swiftly silenced, a cracking branch.

There is knowing there are more of you, but that you never know when we will arise, alien seeds in the gene pool sprouting from the ground with stiletto roots, bladed petals, garotte vines constricting until the blood pressure turns you into a raspberry lawn sprinkler. Never knowing if the dead eyes watching you recognize you as friend or foe. Prey or plaything. Person or meat.

There is knowing that you could have stayed quiet, but that you were consumed, as in the Greek myths you pretend to be fond of, by hubris. That the Erinyes were drawn to your scent because you painted yourself in our blood. That your celebration drew the vultures in close.

There is laying in a hospital bed, alone, shitting uncontrollably, watching the nurse who gives you a knowing smile before she pronounces your fate. There is knowing that there was never any escape, not once you threw wide the gates of the abyss and laughed into the infinite. There is a peaceful death, abandoned, despised, paranoid, after a lifetime of failing to avoid the lidless eyes you awoke.

We always get our prey.

Oh yeah: Thinking back, there are only two shots with any blood at all. In both cases, you donít see what causes the blood at all ó it happens offscreen. I donít think the first one is particularly scary at all, and though the second one is really constantly ratcheting terror up, itís mostly for reasons that have nothing to do with the blood.

Slower, and far more bizarre. Fully half of the run time is spent staring at pitch darkness or trying to look at the outlines of something in the darkness through the film grain. I think itís safe to say less than 30 things happen in the whole film, and Iím talking about a very expansive definition of ďthings that happenĒ. Most of the film is nothing but watching the dark in near silence, straining to make out things moving or any sounds.

Itís abstract horror. I think itís the most abstract horror possible. All the things polished away, leaving an elemental fear.

Good luck in Zuckland.

I decided to watch a horror movie a friend recommended to me and it is the first time I've ever been genuinely terrified of a horror film. No worse possible outcome. I recommend it if you can get into slow-burns. Like, "Tarkovsky on Quaaludes" slow, but Jesus fuck. There's four things you could count as jump scares, though I don't know if any but one of them counts, and I don't think any of them are particularly scary or memorable aside from "oh wow" factor. It's the slow quiet shit that erodes your sanity.

It's called Skinamarink and there's currently no legal way to see it. I wish I had waited to see it.

I am part of the Future. I am a gear in the ticking clock. We will show you the path and drag you down it. We will drive you off of cliffs as early humans did Pleistocene megafauna. The Future doesn't care and won't listen.

The Future won't pass you by. The Future Wants You.

The Future is a Devil's carriage, helmed by lunatics, racing down the mountains. The Future is always gaining on you, even after it's run you over.

The Future is hungry. The Future can eat like no tomorrow.

The Future is coming. The Future Wants You. Act now, or wait and see.

Contact.

Darkness has touched this place. The void is here.

The gloom is growing. This place is crumbling, the ages of erosion and softening to stately remains time-lapsed by flickering shadows. What will you do? Where is next?

But night has fallen. There is nowhere left.

---

The darkness allows beacons to exist for now. Puddles of understanding, civilization, cognizance. But soon they too will gutter and die, from spotlights to the last charred wick of a candle. From suns - to moons - to stars - to ashes.

Night has fallen. It will not rise again.

Tidally locked, gaze perpetually averted from any sun, until the conclusion is there is no sun left. No escape.

Where will you go, as the empire bleeds out around you?

---

There is sight so sensitive that even the carbon-rimed carcasses of stars pierce through heavy rains.

We know. We have seen that light.

In time, as the fires dim, we will move closer, taking those beyond their glow. Behind the walls, we will grow.

You will not be saved.

No one will be saved.

There is nothing left to save.

Night has fallen.

Contact.

Aneristic Illusions / They're coming for you.

We all knew that, but they've finally decided to put their back into it.

The latest anti-queer targeted attack has the father of the perpetrator on camera saying he's just relieved his son isn't gay. Making a point of saying he taught his son to be violent, because it's what works. Sounded proud, damn near.

And all the usual fools, politicians and talking heads alike, aren't saying thoughts and prayers. Not this time. They're looking for more. And the Dems won't even call it what it is: a blatantly targeted attack on the queer community.

I can't get out, so I really hope everyone else stuck on this boat with me is also ready to scrap like it's Tetsuo: The Iron Man.

I expect full-blown pogroms soon. Not "next couple years" soon, either.

Or Kill Me / Petitioner, Beware.

Crosspost from Twitter. It feels distinctly different to me from the THERE ARE DREADFUL THINGS series, though it handles the same subjects.

It's a lament for my enemies.

Quote
To those who expect to be treated with humanity despite naming us terrorists, deviants, monsters:

Caveat precator.

You wanted devils and you got what you wanted. The sages knew: do not call up what you cannot put down.

You have called up the whole abyss.

Caveat precator.

You did not keep your circles drawn close. There is no rite of banishment. We are here now.

The power in the blood you shed has not dissipated. We remember each drop. Not one name is lost: we feel the ones we do not know.

For every curse you bestowed upon us: caveat precator.

Caveat precator.

You wanted hellfire and damnation, and now the sun will rise like arson. You asked for desolation and there will be no landscape so bleak.

You asked for an adversary.

You got what you wanted.

Why would you be surprised?

Caveat precator to everyone who builds themselves monsters to burn in effigy. You have ignored the power of words for too long. Wishes really do come true, and they have teeth and talons and thoughts like bombs.

There is no future but the hell you forged. The doors are barred.

Your application has been received. Your comment has been observed. Your request has been granted. Congratulations.

Caveat precator.
Ruin comes for you all.
Caveat precator.
There will be no graves to mark you.
Caveat precator.

Petitioner, beware.

Apple Talk / Re: Introductions VIII: Some bad news for new folks

>Nope. Try again.

I thought there was a chance they were here, in small numbers. But still wouldn't have done that if I leaned on they were here.

Anyway, the last thing I have to say on the subject, is my apologies for wasting everyone's time.

How about you fuck off?

Even odds he actually listens to you. He has no backbone, no commitment. He folds at the most token resistance. It's like a spear made out of kleenex.

THAT'S what you apologize for. Not mistaking us for the types of people who might cohabitate with Nazis, no, just wasting our time.

Your priorities are warped, and that's me trying to be nice. There's only worse I can say about you. Q-adjacent conspiracist nonsense, thonk-emoji brained schemes you claim to be to hurt the Nazis you're trying to impress and buddy up to. Amazing.

You aren't going to be my new chewtoy only because ultimately your lack of conviction means it wouldn't be any fun. You wouldn't dig your heels in, screech like a howler monkey or shit all over the floor. You'd give puppy-dog eyes and stand down with a meek "yes Curse, of course Curse". My subs put up more of a fuss -- when they want something I'm offering.

You aren't prepared for the future. I mean, no one is, but you're going to have a particularly hard time of it.

I'm pretty sure it actually comes originally from PUA circles (though given the PUA/manosphere/toxic gamer culture overlap that's not saying much). Some of the older guides definitely talk about having a "prop" to initiate conversations with people.

Hooray. Well, I wish them luck with that. I only get drunk freaks asking about my shit, and the one and only time that happened I briefly inhabited "horror movie antagonist" while buying cigarettes, as the two drunks convinced themselves that I was a dead person. (Still one of my proudest moments.)

13
You should have at least held out to where he turned up to your house with his own sink.

This is the equivalent  of gamer culture where they get a cowboy hat, pipe or other prop to carry around with them, desperate for someone to ask about it

Is this actually a thing? I assumed people carrying/wearing odd things were just doing it for the vibes, like I do.

One more.

---

There will be acid blood and red-smeared grins and a million reaching talons in small dark places. There will be an eclipse. There will be smoke without fire, lightning without thunder, and the closing of every book.

There will be an end, but there will be no release.

15
He'll never stop. Which you and I both know is a breach of contract, but he doesn't know what that is.

If you'd said that a week or two ago, I might have doubted you.

But Elon, with his own words, has convinced me that he is utterly incompetent when it comes to management, software development, or running a social media company, and that he is blissfully unaware of that incompetence.

Why shouldn't he be ignorant of basic law as well?

Oh, I have something good for you. https://twitter.com/Palle_Hoffstein/status/1594371817107505154
