Interesting idea of pre-planning for procrastination. It's like you trick yourself into doing stuff (i.e. tidying is a valuable job in it's own right) by thinking of it as actually putting off the real work.

I would also agree that doing multiple things at once helps - if I know I can drop whatever i'm doing when I get bored and start doing something else then the starting feels less painful.

I had to write my whole Master's thesis in four days due to procrastination.

I think I agree with your point that if you get to such a terrifying situation and manage to then get yourself out again, subsequent points of procrastination don't hold the same stress level.

I have also enjoyed throughout my life a relatively accurate self-assessment of the time it will take to complete things.

By the way, the solution to procrastination is to stop fucking about and just start. Then you still finish in the same time it would have taken you but you get to dick about without the overhanging worry of whatever it is you would have been procrastinating.

EDIT: it's important to remember that not everybody is as lucky as you or I. I imagine that it's perfectly possible to over-procrastinate, fail to meet your deadline and that sounds like it would be a self-perpetuating cycle of bad feelings. Some people have just gotta work harder and longer at stuff than others.

I feel like what attracts people to the 'fandom' of shows like Sherlock and Dr. Who is exactly that attribute though - watching something where the characters are running around acting all smarter-than-thou rubs off and makes the watcher feel smart by association.

Unfortunately that smartness only applies within the bounds of the fictional world.

So, I've been solicited to write an article for a relatively well known national security/military website (it's not War On The Rocks, as awesome as that would be).  It's a little odd, but quite flattering, because the website in question usually puts out requests for articles and then presumably picks from the pieces they are sent, and they usually publish pieces from current and former military and intelligence officials, and I'm not either of those barring my two weeks blowing up things for the Royal Engineering Corps.

Only problem is, I have absolutely no clue what to write.  They've not given me a timetable, and I am travelling for the next 2 weeks anyway, but it's mildly frustrating.

They don't give you a brief or anything? Just "We'd like an article."?

We can dream.

I can't imagine what would have to happen for May to actually resign though. She seems pretty intent on staying.

Having said that she was pretty intent on not having a snap election.

If she doesn't resign doesn't this action give the opposition parties a lot of power though? Start implementing some of their policies or at least ameliorating some of the Tories'  That seems like a good thing.

EDIT: Consumer spending lowest since 2013 as prices rise and wages don't. Strap in folks.

I'm being offered the opportunity to go work in/around Thailand for a couple of years trying to drum up some business/providing technical support for my company.

On one hand that sounds awesome.

In other news, I wasn't ambushed by MI5 trainees at the office today.  Instead I was given an envelope suspiciously full of cash.  This wasn't my commission, if it was I could quit the school job no worries.  And I'm still not clear what the money is for, precisely.

So it's going to sit in that envelope for the next 6 months, to see what happens next.
