you're right - that joke ain't funny anymore

well, now that that's out of the way - i guess i didn't understand that you're only allowed to say "AMEN" in the "or kill me thread"

i was NOT trying to derail this thread.

i only posted the evanescence comment because i thought it was the only room for debate.  i.e. you're pretty much preaching to the choir, no?  i seriously doubt anyone on this forum would disagree with you.  save for "why would little billy download evanescence?"  i couldn't help it.  of the thousands of bands, why did you choose evanescence?  it was just too much.  anyhow - no offense meant.

oh - you almost got me.

Or Kill Me / Re: Are you addicted to electricity?

Um, yes.

Your brain runs on a few milliampheres.

damn- beat me to it.  i rather like it when the power goes out.  i was caught in the big midwest black out of ought-three and it was a great time.  it kind of forces you to get out of your routine which is a good thing.

our electrical grid is so fragile it's astonishing, really.  99% of the wires on the poles are un-insulated so all you need is a way to short out the wires (without grounding yourself) and you can blow circuits left and right.  i always figured a model rocket tethered with some conductor flown into some transmission lines would work pretty good.

man, evanescence sucks.

Techmology and Scientism / Re: MATH IS HARD

i was really close to moving to amsterdam and enrolling in a doctorate program in logic - but then i realized that probably wouldn't be very good for my sanity.  plus, being surrounded by people not speaking english really gets under my skin after a few days.

i always dug logic because it actually works.  you can take some information and apply some logic and viola! new information.  that blows my fucking mind.

Don't bother, someone seems to have a blind agenda, reasoning with this person will be like carrying on a conversation with a turnip.

who's to say there's not some turnips with really good ideas?

1rd - i think suspicion would be raised if they received more than one letter about the same thing (then again, maybe not . . . hard to say i guess)

2st - i always figured the "reader submitted" letters were made up.  or at least synthesized out of many letters of similar ilk.

3nd - i like numbering things this way.

Techmology and Scientism / Re: MATH IS HARD

when i went to college, i saw a poster that said:

"psychology is applied biology,
biology is applied chemistry,
chemistry is applied physics,
and physics is applied mathematics"

so i majored in math, i got half way through a master's degree before i realized that math is applied logic.  (i'm not sure what comes after logic, but that's for another time).

anyhow - if you're gonna get deep into some math, pick up a book on symbolic logic and learn the rules of inference.  it will most likely be just as much fun as math, and it will make math your bitch.

maybe i'm too late, and too n00b to be taken seriously, but wtf? no primus?

Primus - "to defy the laws of tradition" in my opinion needs to be included

and, Primus - Hellbound 17 1/2 has, i think, pretty appropo lyrics:

"questions deserve answers,
answers deserve action.
what am i of the populi?
i am but a fraction.
is there a heaven? is there a hell?
is that a tuna melt i smell?
come on . . ."

Principia Discussion / Re: New Chart

i dig this thread - would the chart itself be an example of orderly order?  is it even possible to make a disorderly chart?
