This attempted rocket(?) launch is one of the most glorious things I've ever seen.  It's worthy of John Clark.

Quote from one of the project's founders:  "You have to work hard, but you do not have to be very smart."

Quote from an industry professional: "When you decompose HNO3 with other things, you get nitric oxides in the cloud. This is Not Fun."

At min 1:52 they all run at different directions, such a natural response

Featured / Looking for app games for kids
April 21, 2022, 11:56:06 PM
Hi everybody,

I'm looking for app games for kids to kill two birds with one stone where they can have fun but at the same time improve their solving skills or concepts (not necessarily studying them but learning them by looking at how the game works).

I'm asking because I'd like to get my niece more motivated on her studies of science and math subjects and the one she needs the most help with is with math. She's in grade 6 and she's already getting some math help with this app but it doesn't provide much of the "fun game" part I'm looking for, it's more of a traditional way of practicing math. I know for example "angry birds" was inspired by the physics game "Crush the Castle" and it isadhered to physics laws and there are all these videos on YouTube were explained the lessons you can take from angry birds..... well something like that but for math

Anyways, sorry for the long post, does anyone know of a good game math app? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Happy Thursday!

I really enjoyed this article. It has a lot of good juice for breaking out of the algorithm.

Would love to know how it strikes you spags.

https://www.epsilontheory.com/25-anti-mimetic-tactics-for-living-a-counter-cultural-life/

Love it, love everything about it!!!

At first I didn't know what mimetic was (so even more anti-mimetic) so I had to look it up, I found this video explaining it, the summarized version of course, and I think I got the gist of it. I trust this explanation is a good one.

While I was reading your 25 techniques I noticed that I've been doing some of them all along even though I didn't know what I was doing. In general since I can remember I have always had this way of thinking where I dislike almost automatically what EVERYBODY is doing. For example "#25 Anti-Mimetic Scheduling" many many times I either go to the movies super early on a weekend or super late on a school night to avoid going at the same time with ALL the minds that said "yeah, let's get together at this hour like everybody else"... of course I assume that they are not doing this at a conscious level, I assume the great majority "just do it" unconsciously. "#3Return Anger with Kindness"  OMG.... it made me remember this thing I created back in the with my brother...... so like with any other brother in the world from time to time we would fight (arguments) and sometimes things would escalate and tension rise to a point we both were really really mad.... well, at this point I always felt that what is expected to follow was so predictable, so boring, so mainstream..... if you both are mad you don't talk much to each other, you say bad things to hurt him, you won't share your snacks with him, you might tell on him on something...... you get the idea.......... well at this point I would always think "why should I have to behave like this?. why should I have to follow something that feels pre-written to me, can't I just do something unexpected outside the box?".... and that's what I did  :).... so at the end of the argument when emotions were running high, I would ask my brother "hey can I borrow 5 bucks"? but in a way as if the argument was not affecting me to ask him that kind of favor cuz normally when you are fighting with someone you don't ask for a favor (let alone money) in the middle of it xD.................... his face would change immediately like saying "oh you need money? well, ok, after all you are my brother"...... the first times had this trait of being out of the blue but after a while it turned into a inside joke between us and an implicit way to deescalate the situation, we would laugh and the forget about the argument.

Anyways, sorry for rambling I got too excited I guess  .... so yeah, thanks for sharing your techniques, I'll read them again later this week, I'm sure I'll find new meanings and remember more things I do without knowing.

One quick question, the phrase "The older I get, the more I realize that most of life is a matter of what we pay attention to — of what we attend to, with focus." is that yours? I liked it very much and I too agree, with time I've come to conclude to whatever you put your attention that's what your life is gonna be about, it's so simple yet it took much much time to settle in my mind.

That's not a bad hypothesis, but there's another possibility.

2 million years of primate survival have taught us to emulate the successful.  When we had to worry about leopards and Those Other Bastards Over There hogging up all the game, that was a really good strategy.  In a high tech society, it's not a particularly successful.

However, the fact is that we existed for hundreds of thousands of years in the first case, and maybe a hundred years in the second case.

Now, marketing nerds understand this, so your views are presented to you by one of three types:

Athletic young men.
Distinguished older men.
Hot young blondes.

They aren't talking to the front of your brain, they're talking more towards the back, because the great majority of people will listen to and absorb what they have to say, because they are perceived as being the winners of the tribe by the part of your brain that spends all its time looking for leopards (and, of course, Those Other Bastards Over There).

Turn on the TV and hit a "news" channel, just for one example, and watch it with the sound off.  You don't know what they're saying, but at least part of you wants to trust them anyway.

Great point, well summarized.

To your list I'd just add a 4th one, "Any persons with tons of money"

It has been quite a few years since I last logged on but I am happy to be back.

I have been attending Grand Canyon University which is a private christian college located in Arizona.  This school was chosen due to the way their online classes work in that you take one class at a time for eight weeks and that counts as being a full time student to qualify for educational benefits.  The downside to this is that I am forced to take a "Christian World View" class which brings me to the point of my gift...
I have been citing the Principia Discordia as an alternative to christianity at a very christian school.

Please forgive me if I put this post in the wrong place.

This file is just a power point presentation, nothing too nefarious.  So without further adieu:

Also please note that are are speaker's notes at the bottom

Rev Ned

Thanks for sharing this pp presentation.... I loved it.

Since it's been a while since you posted this I wonder how are you doing with your program in the university? did you already graduate? I hope you did. Please if you can keep us updated.

Thanks,
Joshua

The socks with sandals are pure joy. Great work as usual!

Yeah, I actually managed to gross myself out with that part. Mission accomplished  :lulz:

It looks so real and yet so disgusting and terrifying. Great work tho!
