You want to tell us about Malaclypse the Younger and Omar Ravenhurst, but we already grasp the concept of "I WILL KILL A MOTHERFUCKER".
We're not necessarily saying we're smarter than you, we're saying we're better than you. Not because we have some secret knowledge (we do), and not because we're generally clever and sexy as fuck (we are), but because we know a Southbound freight train when we see one, and we know that the color of the train (or the party of the politician, etc) makes no difference to the outcome, just like we know that our personal beliefs about the nature of the train make no difference.
You may also consider that you aren't the first one busting in here with loads of misconceptions, and you MIGHT consider maybe looking around an trying to figure out what the topics of the conversations are, before trying to wow us on your first day with all the cool ideas that won over the trustafarian girls at the community college.
But who am I kidding? This is PD, so your job is to dig your heels in and show us all. You'll last about a month, you'll be bitter as hell when you finally leave, but at least you will have appeased your e-penis, which has to be worth something, right?

As some of you may know, this wonderful Simple Machines Forum has been experiencing a phenomenon of cataclysmic proportions, which Western Medicine has defined as extreme "Pop-Tart Paranoia." If you are a new member here, you are going to get accused of being Pop-Tart. In many cases you will be banned for being Pop-Tart, even though you're just a regular noob. In the case of "choptop" and "Dranes43," they came in talking in classic Pop-Tart form, (short, very short) and proceeded to be banned as Pop-Tart based on the structuring of their posts. Whether this was intentional or not, we will never know. But we do know that they were not Pop-Tart. Recently, a new member named "Krez" joined our forum, proved his identity with random facts about Tucson, and was still accused of being Pop-Tart. Krez is not Pop-Tart. Pop-Tart would not send creepy PMs. Pop-Tart himself will get accused of being Pop-Tart, knowing there is no way the Mad Scientist and the other Mods can know for sure it's really him, and yet he gets banned anyway. Pop-Tart was banned by Cain for posting in the hipster thread because Cain hates hipsters and had a hunch Aries Gurl could be Pop-Tart. Then Cain unbanned Pop-Tart 5 minutes later because he didn't have any solid proof, he just hates hipsters. But let's not get into the dirty, yet somewhat warranted, moderation that has been going on lately.
In a recent interview with Anon from 4chan, First City Hustle was quoted as saying, "Our site has been consumed by Pop-Tart Paranoia. The Mad Scientist is overrun with it. Here's what I want to add:This forum is the primary gathering point for an extended tribe of Discordians.
There's no getting around that word "tribe".
Like any tribe, it has its own in-jokes, history, customs, politics... there is a particular take on Discordia which is being brewed here one soul at a time. It's been fermenting for a while now and it keeps getting stronger.
A lot of Discordian literature eschews the tribal circuitry with which we're all wired. It suggests that we should be skeptical of any group of monkeys. And this is a good lesson. BUT that doesn't mean all tribes are bad, or that we should somehow turn off that part of our brains.
Speaking for myself here, I find this community incredibly useful for collaboration and getting feedback about certain things. I've met some great friends through this board, people whose friendships I really treasure. And I don't just mean people I only know on the internet - I've met a lot of you cats in the flesh. It's fucking incredible how many adventures this forum has catapulted me into ever since I took the plunge into the thick of it.
Every so often somebody comes in with assumptions about what the Discordian society
should be like. They've read the PD, they've read
Illuminatus, and they use that description of Discordia to measure our worth. I could easily dig up 10 threads in which somebody thinks this entire community has a disease or something because the PD says that "discordians should stick apart!" or because the stuff we create doesn't resonate with their personal interpretation of the
Principia Discordia.

Don't get me wrong - I don't want to arrive at some Discordian monoculture. I like when people come here with wild ideas or startlingly different interpretations of Eris than I have. I don't care if you're an anarchist or are into the occult or any of the other things that aren't terribly popular in this community. But please understand that we treat few things as sacred here, people might press up against your beliefs and poke them and make you defend them. Sometimes this feels aggressive and territorial, I give it that.
But at the end of the day we are just light on a screen; we're only as real as you make us. If this place gives you fits, change gears. Hell, start your own Discordian community - we need more! Speaking for myself, I prefer it when people are brave enough to get on their very own soap box -- rather than sitting in judgment of others who have dared to speak their minds.

I'm a bit hung up on the title of this thread; You're not what I expected and it's dissapointing, please satisfy me, so that I leave with a pleasant tingling sensation and maybe feeling a little bit like royalty of a far away country (not England, but not Narnia either, I'd be fucking pissed off if I had lived my entire life to find I left the damn wardrobe and I was still a little shitbox.)

I don't really know you all at all yet, but I think it's kind of neat that you've got such a cohesive group here. I don't really understand the whole thing about "sticking together/sticking apart" except as an old funny joke bit in the PD. I do get the idea of decentralization as a strategy to keep an idea alive though. To me it's the utility of a thing that makes it worth even considering. If it's not handy, or at least preferable, to be apart at a certain moment why do it? The same thing goes for getting together, but most of us human types just love at least being in communication with others if not in their presence. This is not just healthy, it's also useful in a practical sense. You get to exchange with folks. These exchanges may not always be useful or enjoyable, but you (all of you not in a self-contained isolation pod yet anyway) do it every day just getting along. I know it's not "nice" to hate people with mental illnesses. And honestly, I don't hate them if it's treated and under control. But not too long ago, I realized that separating the person from the behavior is a false dichotomy, and that my intense sense of repulsion toward out-of-control schizophrenics and other dangerously crazy people is self-protection, and I am not going to downplay or conceal it.
I've really liked every schizophrenic I've spent time with, but on the other hand it was always in a clinical setting.
I don't know that I'd want to encounter one in the wild.

Thanks for clarifying, that makes a lot more sense.
I do have to say, in light of your earlier comment, that schizophrenia is
not a predictor of one's propensity towards violence. The most recent data on that says there is no difference between the levels of violence amongst schizophrenics and the general population. If you're concerned about violence then things like being young, male and a drug user are much more reliable qualities to consider.
I've thought a lot about the whole separating the person and behavior as well, but I came to the opposite conclusion: it's a key distinction to make,
when it's practically possible to do so. Otherwise, I think we fall victim to our pre-wired illusions via the "fundamental attribution error". Given the stresses you're under right now, it makes sense to forgo the extra energy it takes to counteract this tendency so you can focus on more important things in your life.
But when we're not under heavy stress I find that distinction to be invaluable and try to make it as much of a habit as possible.

I had skimmed it. I'll find it again. There's a lot of stuff here and I'm doing other stuff so I'm gonna be a little slow on the in-jokes. If some of the good material wasn't so good here I'd have left this forum alone a while ago due to the extraordinary volume of the in-knowledge needed to get the jokes in them, or even to answer basic questions.

The most recent data on that says there is no difference between the levels of violence amongst schizophrenics and the general population. If you're concerned about violence then things like being young, male and a drug user are much more reliable qualities to consider.
I've thought a lot about the whole separating the person and behavior as well, but I came to the opposite conclusion: it's a key distinction to make, when it's practically possible to do so. Otherwise, I think we fall victim to our pre-wired illusions via the "fundamental attribution error". Given the stresses you're under right now, it makes sense to forgo the extra energy it takes to counteract this tendency so you can focus on more important things in your life.
But when we're not under heavy stress I find that distinction to be invaluable and try to make it as much of a habit as possible.
I am not counting physical violence as the only form of danger people pose. Schizophrenics can (and usually do) take a heavy emotional and psychological toll on the people in their lives.
Regardless of my stress level, I don't think it would be healthy or helpful for me to have people with poorly controlled mental or personality disorders in my life, and so unless I have a compelling reason to do so (like, one of my kids has such problems) I have no interest in doing so.
Yeah, I don't do crazy people. I don't have the time, patience or emotional capacity to be nice or understanding so I don't deal with them.
I'm always afraid I would just slap the shit out of someone.

Just finished listening to a series of lectures on the biology of behaviour. The above is probably the sanest way to view things (though I am guessing that biologists, and many other people, try to seperate the diesease from the person in a much clearer and defined way).
The biggest affector of violence is environment, and while males in their 20's are more likely to be violent, someone from Detroit as opposed to someone from Toronto is signifigantly more likely to be violent. (actually, environment is a crazily super effective way to completely change someones behaviour even down to the genetic level).
The famous experiments and analysis done on twins seperated at birth, looking at Schizophrenia, is an excellent example of the environment that nurtures Schizophrenia and that is caused by it.
