Part of it might be the slavery thing. Us whitens know we dun wrong if only fer th' treason.

We may have had very bad race relations since... well... 1776, but race is inherently part of our history. American history is whites vs everyone else until, I prefer to think the 1960s. But all of us have that in the back of our minds. We had a civil war over slavery based on racism.

Australia, like America, was built on genocide of the original population, partially through disease and partially through design.  Hell, for a long time, the Aborigines were seen as one step above animals (barely), and up until the 1970s, Aboriginal children were being stolen from their families to be raised as wards of the state (an ideology driven by the blatantly racist idea that "half-caste" Aborigines could be "turned white" through subsequent generations of breeding, at least in the 1930s, and by more subtle forms of racism later on).

Hell, just look at the average life expectancy of an Aboriginal compared to a white Australian.  47 years, in some places.  Also, a sociologist I know has found strong correlation between birth mortality rates and official discrimination, and in Australia in 2006, the rate of indigenous infant deaths was 10 out of every 1000, while the non-indigenous rate is 4.4 of every 1000.

Australia has also traditionally feared the "Yellow Peril" and "Asian invasion", frequently passing immigration laws aimed at excluding such groups from the country as much as possible.  They even called it "the White Australia Policy".  The enemy changed every generation or so, Chinese goldminers, invading Japanese (which, to be fair, was a credible threat post 1937), Chinese Communists, Indonesian terrorists etc but there pretty much always has been one, and even though the Whitlam Admin officially abandoned the policy, that Australia still acts in a heavy-handed and totally inappropriate manner when dealing with illegal immigrants and asylum seekers is almost certainly a legacy of this worldview.

WHOOT IM PART OF THE YELLOW PERIL ASIAN INVASION, THAT SHIT SO FUCKING GANGSTA YO

Honestly, I don't think that Lysergic was trying to offend anyone, obviously since most of us are Bleachers, and I think everyone is part Bleacher at the least (correct me if I'm wrong), but maybe he needed to blow off some steam? Sort of like, tried to go for the lulz, but fell short? I dunno, I'm not a prison colonist.

Also, I thought he was part Native Australian, but he's part Asian?

Twid,
realizing that sometimes being here a year and a half still kinda makes you a noob sometimes....
Also thinks Bleacher sounds funny.

I'm glad to see *someone* around here is able to use their brains.

Here's the big secret: I'M HALF BLEACHER. OH NOES THE SHAME

What's the other half? (genuinely curious at this point)

Also, I am sad to inform you that Americans do actually consider Australia to have a worse problem with racism than we do. FYI.
The other half is filipino.

And I think it's hilarious that Australians consider Americans to be the worst offenders of racism and you guys believe it the other way. The irony is just amazing.

Oh, except that the entire rest of the word, including Canada sees Australia as being especially awful, and fuck, as a native, that's saying something.
There's a reason why I want to move to canda. Not the racism thing though. I just think, from the sounds of it, it's a better, saner version of Australia.

But I find it extremely interesting you guys think Australia is inherently racist. Sure, we do have our racists, but you'd be very hard pressed to find one without digging around under a few rocks before you do.

I guess that we're just going to have to agree that our former imperialist overlords are doing a good job of hiding it.

Fuck them Brits,
also, when you guize do republican revolution? Irishes and Americanses said fuck the monarchy. where is republic of Australia? Canada? Anybody?  :lulz: :lulz:
We've tried doing it in the past but for some reason it never gets through.
As far as we're aware, the queen is someone on our money, but actually has sweet fuck all to do with Australia.
It's a running gag here in Aus to make fun of the queen for having absolutely nothing to do with us.

I think we all are, but sometimes the humor doesn't necessarily translate as funny.

I thought it was funny. But if I didn't know you to a degree I might have found it offensive. Maybe because making fun of white people is funny, even if you're white. I dunno, like, in my sphere, other white people make fun of each other for their specific nationality. You even see it here. roger makes fun of me being Irish, Dimo is a fucking guinzo, Nigel's Welsh, that sort of thing.

Exactly. God forbid I try joining in on the fun.

Actually, you're right. I think this isn't really funny either.

I just wanted to poke roger for being a bleacher.

And I, sir, will sit back and laugh at you for turning into a racist no different than the teabaggers that we make fun of here.

Sorry to hear your head shrank.
Oh yeah, I'm totally a racist man. Cus you know, having euro-asian background brought up in the most multicultural country in the world*TOTALLY* does that to you.

Yeah, or else some other factor in growing up in what is widely acknowledged as the most racist country in the world outside of India triggered your sudden appetite to find racial epithets.

Uhhh... as far as we australians are aware, Murrica is one the most racist countries in the world.
Lets see... where I live, there are- Buddhists, Muslims, Christians, Sudanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Germans, Italians, Greeks and fuck loads of others that I can't be bothered listing.
I get along just fine with all of them and love them all.

No, I'm not going to bother explaining to you people that
a. I'm not a racist and
b. This whole thing is just a parody on racism.

I'm going to give you people more credit then having to spell it out for you, because I know you guys ain't stupid, you just all seem to have concluded something that is stupidly untrue based on things you don't know much about.

I can't believe you people are taking this so seriously.
I thought I made it bleedingly obvious this was a pisstake on racism.

What you said made no sense. We are the suns chosen.

It's like me saying "enjoy your herpes bleacher" when I know you don't get laid.

Dear Tanners,

Enjoy your melanoma.

Love,
