Fuck, yeah.  We're the best band I know.
:mittens: !!
ok, i admit i know approximately 0 of these tracks.
but it's a lot of songs. good to fill a long concert with, i presume. and if the genre is punk, i think i'd probably enjoy it for the sheer speed and upbeatness of it.
Pssst!  If you want to hear the originals (and some others), go to
http://earfatigue.multiply.com/music/item/33
And pretend you're not breaking the law.
I wanna hear the covers! I already heard the originals to death.
You'll have to come to Boston.
That's quite an ecclectic mix, too. Good on you guys!

Not a single one? Suriously?
I refuse to believe you've never heard Surrender by Cheap Trick.
Or Cherry Bomb...or Boys Don't Cry...
I could see not hearing those.
Ok Cherry Bomb is pretty popular.
But Surrender?
Everyone's seen at least one movie or commercial with that song in it.
Boys Don't Cry has been in a lot of movies, though.

well i'm going to listen to them in a few moments, and looking at the names, some of them are quite famous (so much that even i recognize the names), so it could very well be that i in fact know some of these songs, but that i never really knew the title.

That's what I was thinking when you said you'd never heard of them. Often they're used in popular media (songs, that is) without their titles and performers attached.
Sounds like the case. The corus of surrender will hit you "oh yeah. that song"
P.S. Don't let these heathens push The Cure on you.
It's OK to think they suck.
That's right I said it.
 Hey now, no hatin' on The Cure, even if they are the original emo kids from gothland, ok?
I had to. Too many people worship them, and it's a bit unwarranted.
I don't actually hate them I just think they're over rated.
P.S. The Clash would be in this category if didn't like their lyrics so much.
Quote from: hunter s.durden on January 25, 2007, 06:14:36 PMSounds like the case. The corus of surrender will hit you "oh yeah. that song"
nope, really don't know it.
now comes a question that might make me very unpopular but i'm gonna ask it anyway. it doesn't really sound like punk the way i know it? should be faster and louder and less making me nauseous. may i assume that you fix this when you perform this song as a punk band?
btw now listening to misfits - we are 183, that is more like i remember from the little concerts what my friends at highschool dragged me to :) heh)
that pixies song is also great fun.
horrible sound quality, though :)
MUSICAL EDUCTION ITT :-D
Well, this is old skool stuff...so the sound is cleaner and softer.
The Clash, the Pixies...all that stuff just rawks the socks.
I am blow away.
Many of those songs I understand because you have to go looking for them. Misfits, Pixies, Stooges, None of them get radio play.
But Surrender was (is) way popular.
Perhaps you're too young?

i'm 26. is that too young?
i think it probably has something to do with a america-europe gap.
not that they're comparable in "bigness", but you probably don't know "wij zijn Sjonnie en Anita" by "De Heideroosjes" either ;-) [which is dutch punk that everybody knows .. over here ;-) ]

We do out here! Claissic Rock and Punk ftw!
Funny you say that. CheapTrick actually got big in Japan first, then America.
Probably the case, though. Europens are stuck up and only listen to their own music. Everyone here know "wij zijn Sjonnie en Anita" by "De Heideroojes".
Duh.
Radio stations in my town are embarrassing.

WTF? No Bad Religion? j/k
keep me, us, posted about future gigs. Perhaps I can arrange a weekend in Beantown for my wife and I.
ok first one i recognize, kind of. not on lmno's list, but it was in the directory he linked from his site. "sweet - the ballroom blitz" -- first few seconds of drumming is sampled by Apollo440's "Krupa" (not the radio-edit but the vinyl @440 Original)
:-P
First, we treat the Cure song as if Me First and the Gimme Gimmies were playing it - Fast, loud & stoopid.
Second, some of these songs are, like, 30 years old. We give it the modern touch.
Third, we were thinking of doing a medly of "Radar Love" and "Ballroom Blitz".
Fourth, Ballroom Blitz was also sampled by the Beastie Boys in "Hey Ladies" - "She thinks she's the passionate one!"
Fifth, We're gonna do "Not In Love" like a Sonic Youth song.
Having seen my brothers' rock bad cover "Walk Like an Egyptian," I can readily understand what you are saying.
It IS possible to reify the rock for a rock/punk song. Harder riffs, stronger, faster beats, etc.
It's all in the attitude, anyway.
Johnny Cash = Punk as fuck.

I say it's a must. I can already hear it in my head.
Me first pwns.
Covers pwn.
Hunter - Can listen to "How soon is now" by any artist and never get sick of it.
Ever hear the Meatmen do it?
No! Link?
Hmmm. No link, but it's on a Smiths tribute album called "The World Still Won't Listen."
Tribute albumns pwn.(usually)
Nativity in Black .... loved it.

ballroom blitz hurts my brain.
- teh mang' still suffering from crappy heavy metal club night he used to frequent in the early 90s.

I heard that album wasn't so bad.  I'll have to check it out.
I adore The Smiths.  I'm with HSD, I can hear "How SOON! Is Now" anytime, any day.
I have to say, I'm lucky that a culturally, well, not poor but not fantastic city like SD has some decent rock stations.

You just made Morrisey cry.
Not that it was very hard to do, but still...
Whoops.  :(  Poor Morissey.  I'll go fix.  I blame working and typing at the same time. Dammit. That, and I'm old.
I'm sure it's been done by a punk band, and probably one from Boston, but I think a particularily snotty punk cover of "It's a Wonderful World" would be cool to hear.
Me First & the Gimmie Gimmies.
It's Fat Mike from NOFX and friends. They do skaterpunk versions of standards.

ZOMG I have only heard one song of theirs, but it was their cover of "Science Fiction Double Feature" and I *LOVED* it.
PBS is going to air a New York Dolls performance:

Crap. That's right, we need to learn a Dolls tune.
Did you see the documentary on "killer" Kane?
He became a Mormon.
Can't say I have, though now I will have to track it down.
