do you need a TV? won't cheap consoles plug into your computer monitor?

i have two laptops so probably not. my big laptop screen might support hdmi-in though, but I doubt it

Lately, my apartment has been discussing a problem that's been nagging at us.

Skyrim is awesome. It's been out for a little over 20 days. Everybody in my apartment is playing it, except for the girl who has final exams coming up.

And it's remained constantly good. I'm at level 37 and I'm not running out of content. I think I've hit the point where the game's easy, but then I get annihilated by some creature I've never seen before. You think "ah I'll never have to worry about gold again", and then spend it all in one shopping trip. I keep finding fascinating locations, quests, and NPCs. In short, the game hasn't stopped being awesome.

So here's the problem:

what if it never stops being awesome?

what if we never get bored with it?

I'm remembering the people who have died while playing WoW or Starcraft or Halo 2. We could die this way!

Or on a less life threatening level: what if we never need to buy other video games now? The whole video game industry is in danger.

This is Skyrim's potentially biggest flaw: It's too good.

no no no no no please don't say that! I've held off on getting it (because I have no real way of playing it at the moment) but the more people tell me how awesome it is, the more I'm tempted to pick up a cheap console and a shitty TV and just hibernate for a few weeks playing it :\

Whenever I eat a bowl of grapes, my shits get a bit messed up for the rest of the day. I can only imagine how messed up they would become if I were to consume more. Also  :lulz: :lulz: :lulz: :lulz: @ OP & TRIP

doesn't the close button hide it forever?

Why did the Dream Theater cover band re-locate to the Czech Republic?

To be recognized as a true Prague Rock band.

Lost my shit. :lulz:

I wish my laptop was good enough to run Skyrim, so much. :( Almost tempted to pick up a console and a cheap TV, just to play it. Along with Arkham City, too.

godDAMN, this thread makes me want to start playing again so much. my friend has a bunch of 4th ed books and I have the 3.5 stuff, but I've never really properly played a full campaign -- we've done bits of encounters and false starts, but never properly got into it, and I really want to :(

EDIT: in case I wasn't clear, holy shit Cram, your campaign looks fucking awesome

i adore my Kindle. the UI on the device itself is well thought out and does a great job of getting out of the way, and there are a few cool hacks you can do regarding the screensavers (and there are different custom firmwares out there that apparently do a better job with some pdfs and such). the thing that I love about it the most is just how EASY and fast it is to buy a book, even just using the Amazon Store on the Kindle itself. the ease of use has certainly got me spending a lot more money on books than I used to

Tom Wolfe reminds me of an early version of Martin Amis, for some reason.

That is not a flattering comparison, by the way.

Cain,
can't stand Amis

really? I'm reading Time's Arrow for my Lit coursework at the moment and I'm enjoying it so far. The narrative style is BIZARRE but I want to compare it with Slaughterhouse-Five so it works pretty well... Having said that, I'm only like 60% through and I've heard people say that the payoff at the end is not worth reading the rest of the novel for, so we'll see I guess

i use lastpass to save all my passwords - it has a nifty extension for pretty much every browser under the sun, that can automatically fill password forms etc.

the really cool thing about it is that it comes with a random password generator that creates randomised passwords exactly to what you want -- I used it to generate 30 character randomised passwords w/ both cases, numbers and symbols for all of my critical sites (gmail, amazon, some torrenting sites)
