Apologies yeah I was reading a more reactionary take on it,Canada is gradually becoming more and more right wing and yes did wipe out the indigenous people. In some ways they have even been worse than the US in confronting thier history on that.
Gonna argue that.  Most Americans still believe the Native Americans were finally happy when we put them on reservations.

Canada took a long time to examine what they've done, but afterwards don't seem to try to excuse it.

Nobody wants me being a divinity.  HO HO!  No.

I mean, the very first thing I'm gonna do is give everyone a crippling case of jock itch.  Then it's the 20 ft tall radioactive lizards.

And that's before my first coffee on day one.

Why did I read the comments?

Quote
SUMMARY

This enactment amends the Criminal Code to, among other things,

(a) repeal the provision that requires a personís natural death be reasonably foreseeable in order for them to be eligible for medical assistance in dying;

(b) specify that persons whose sole underlying medical condition is a mental illness are not eligible for medical assistance in dying;

(c) create two sets of safeguards that must be respected before medical assistance in dying may be provided to a person, the application of which depends on whether the personís natural death is reasonably foreseeable;

(d) permit medical assistance in dying to be provided to a person who has been found eligible to receive it, whose natural death is reasonably foreseeable and who has lost the capacity to consent before medical assistance in dying is provided, on the basis of a prior agreement they entered into with the medical practitioner or nurse practitioner; and

(e) permit medical assistance in dying to be provided to a person who has lost the capacity to consent to it as a result of the self-administration of a substance that was provided to them under the provisions governing medical assistance in dying in order to cause their own death.

Further down, it specifies conditions that eliminate involuntary termination, and institutes penalties for medical personnel that violate the bill.

I don't know about Global News to be fair, but I don't think the bias outweighs the quotes from advocates. Even if we assume the people interviewed are lying, and there's a lot of them beyond those two articles, disability advocate groups do seem fairly united in their criticism from what I can see?

Have you looked at the actual text of the law as it is and the proposed expansion?

Why, what have you been hearing?

If I didn't know these two so well, I'd assume that someone strapped them to a chair in front of a Tucker Carlson show (he has gone from screeching about this to "liberating Canada" in the last few days).
Yeah, I was thinking this has the same vibe as the American rhetoric about how socialized health care leads to "DEATH PANELS".

The remaining Koch brother and shitbags like Tucker Carlson and the Fox News daytime programs have put a lot of effort into this exact subject.

If you listen to them, Canada is opening death camps to dispose of unemployed people, elderly people, the mentally ill, and LGBT folks.

It's mostly the people I know out there who raised this to me. Mental illness comes in from March I believe and there's a couple good rundowns of the poverty factors here:

https://globalnews.ca/news/9176485/poverty-canadians-disabilities-medically-assisted-death/

https://www.thedailybeast.com/canadas-health-care-woes-are-pushing-people-with-disabilities-toward-medically-assisted-death

It's not being weaponised against trans people specifically yet, but there's a lot of disabled advocates speaking up on it. It'd only effect me at the point I couldn't look after myself... But that also happens to be the point where I'd be out of other options.

You of course realize those are both right wing rags, right?

Hey did you all know that the limbic system - the emotional brain of the mind - is the portal to the Brahman,

Good to know.  That bastard has a kicking coming to him.

Setting that aside, Canada's medical system is heavily overloaded right now, which might be a reason not to move here, especially if you're in less than perfect health.  It's almost impossible to find a GP in many areas, and there were recently two cases of women in Nova Scotia dying while waiting for treatment in emergency rooms.

That happens here all the time.  Your wait may be dictated by your ability to pay, even in the ER.

Canada has this policy for people who are terminally ill, or some other condition that cannot be reversed but causes misery, such as advanced MS, etc.

I personally don't like it much for a bunch of reasons, but I hardly think it's targeting trans folk.  This is Trudeau and parliament, not Victor Orban.

Seriously. I get up to weird ass sci-fi shit in my head on a regular basis, and it's not even "being creative", it's "my brain is so broken that I'm time-sharing a body with a giant roundworm anthropologist and an industrial automation robot's user agent".

Whatever you're selling, I got better.

Me, I got obsidian snakes crawling up from Chihuahua (the state, not the dog), and behind every can of haggis, tiny Toltec assassins lurk.  It's not even safe to drive to Yuma anymore.  I mean, it never was, but that was just because of mundane dangers, like methed-up gas station attendants and feral Chihuahuas (the dog, not the state).

My head is full of one-line diagrams of Shiny New War Crimes, and even I will never make that drive again.  I got as far as Winterhaven when I was abducted and given a proper probing1.

This is why you can't trust gods or aliens.  Because they're not humans.  It boggles the mind that this has to be explained.

1 The ONE thing you can count on in this busy workaday world is that the Greys don't skimp on the probing.

Hey did you all know that the limbic system - the emotional brain of the mind - is the portal to the Brahman, which is the quantum, which is God, or 'might as well be'?

And if you destroy your own limbic system, you can force the download of a kundalini backup, complete with Goddess manifestations, quantum cognitive function, and uhhhhh...other...things?  Like, cats like you extra, now?  That's the best powerup.

I'm not sure why I'm posting this if I'm just going to talk to myself again, but you know sometimes I have some great things to say so why not.

Oui, has anyone seen the Kalki's white horse laying around?  Fucking thing where is it...

I hope all of me is having a lovely evening out there.

You came to the wrong part of samsara, brother.

She's right, you know.  We exist only to knock people out of satori, in our efforts to placate the fiendish Cramulus.

Did you know that Cramulus always has a fish in his hand?

He does, at all times.  It's apparently some kind of upstate New York perversion, and they're running out of trout.  The mind boggles in horror about what that means for any other creatures in range, when those spags finally use up all the fresh water fish.  What will they slake their impure lusts THEN, eh?

"Quantum cognitive function" will not be on their minds. No.  They will simply start grabbing any fauna in the area and go to town.  You can't run fast enough.  Should you be so foolish as to enter swamp yankee territory, they will find you inverted with all your bones on the outside.  Also, don't trust that Cainad character.  He's not on your side.  He's in the pay of Big Cramulus, and - while not a fish-fondler himself - does whatever Cramulus tells him.  Nobody knows why.  Perhaps he has a bomb around his neck.  Weirder things have happened.

NEW YORK IS A DEAD STATE. Run while you still have legs.
