yeah proprietary formats ended up being pretty expensive. Not everybody wants to use adobe flash as the industry standard. Over at the publisher's office, a LOT of my job involves trying to make assets developed in a proprietary format like flash usable today.

HTML5 is an "Open Code" format - and thank god, it is slowly replacing Flash entirely. If you develop with HTML5, your app can work on any mobile device. And I think this is a general trend - the less proprietary and protected formats you use, the easier it is to develop. Open source, open code, creative commons, public domain... these constructs make it easier to develop ideas. They take the idea out of the individual's control and expose them to the power of the crowd. It's not about the team who invented HTML5 making any money.

Well it looks like if my son can force himself to slow down and actually concentrate on his math he'll be fine. Worked with him today on the 3 or 4 pages he had for homework and he only threw a tantrum once (he really doesn't like it if he tries something twice and still has it wrong) so it's improvement.

I'm sure the idea of not being able to go on the class trip in May if he doesn't have at least a C is helping motivate him some too.

I would wager the end results would leave people as satisfied, if not moreso, with their lives as when they make their own choices. Plus, if it goes wrong, you have a clear path to lay the blame.

I am very indecisive, myself. Often doing things that limit my options leave me happier because I make the most of what I got. When a whole universe of options are available I freeze up.
