Title: Meeting People that you are actually interested in meeting
Post by: Rev. Dr. Narot on May 29, 2010, 03:43:13 AM
So I had some gin but I have it pretty well figured out. There's this chick that works at circle K near my place, and she's pretty cute. I saw her a couple times, a few months back, and started thinking of talking to her. Problem was, I was still half-on, half-off with my ex (we part ways in Hawaii, now she's back in Japan and I'm in California, and we're done).

Tonight I got that usual 5o'clock oh fuck I'm going to be on the internetz all day today feeling, so I went to get some liquid to make it a more joyous time. She was there and helped me out, and we traded some dorky jokes and words. I felt really happy and retarded. I swore I wouldn't be interested in anyone post-ex for like 1 year or so but I can't help it.

So I came home and got hosed then wanted to talk to her again. But I couldn't drive. So being the illuminated idiot I am, I figured I should call up the store and tell her my mind. You know, like how I'd normally do if there weren't so many crazy fuckers around.

I decided not to because of peer pressure, and now I'm just sitting around wondering if I should have been like "we should hang out sometime!" or "hey why don't cha give me a call!!!" when I was there. Now I feel like a moron.

What would you do? I've been out of the "meeting new chicks I'm actually interested in" game for a while (I like scamming / fake hitting on girls in the clubs, but I'm only super confident because I don't actually care - this time I actually do.) My fellow lieges let me down without providing a ride but maybe they helped me out in the end.

Hi narot.  She works at your local Circle K.  All is not lost.

Probably not going to tell you anything you haven't already heard from your friends, but you want advice from strangers on the internet, so you gets what you gets.  *Go see her tomorrow* (or the next day, etc).  If today's the first time you talked with her and it was giggly-retarded, that's a good memory for her to have until you talk to her again.

Friends don't let friends drunkdial (except when tequila's involved).

(And completely unsolicited?  Speaking as a woman who's done a fucktonne of retail and bartending in the past, maybe just talk with her again like you did today and then offer to give her your number (protip: have paper and a pen in your pocket).  I appreciated that approach a lot.  If you were at a club, it'd be different, but this is where she works.)

I wish you awesome wooing.

Godspeed, dude.  This is pretty much the one thing I still totally suck at socially.  If I don't have some kind of 'in', I have a really hard time making a move.  Most of the girls I've dated picked up on this, and made it for me in fact.  Embarrassing but true.

But anyway.  Nurse R is probably right.  Most people are neurotic like me, and want you to make the opening gesture.

The best thing ever in the history of the world is Silly Events. Your job, then, becomes Organizing Silly Events.

Invite her to one. It is surprisingly easy to invite people to Silly Events, and if she comes... well, then, she has transitioned from Clerk to Friend. And it's EASY to invite a Friend out.

Or a house party, or whatever.

Well said.

Lots of good advice ITT.

Narot, you made the right decision. Drunk-dialing the store would have been a bit much.
I think an in-store approach is best--strike up a conversation and give her the chance to have a great time talking with you.

Try not to create a huge drama in your mind before you even make actual contact.

Hahahaha! I can so relate to that. I was always much more relaxed nailing chicks I didn't give a fuck a bout. And yeah - your friends did you a favour. Drunk is only the way to score if the girl is drunk too

All fantastic advice, and yeah - thats probably the best of all, to keep realistic mentally. In my shoes it's best to get a lot of 3rd party perspective, coz I tend to cast aside most rules and do whatever I please (thats a nice way to describe being impulsive). At least I channeled it in to something good this morning. If you're like me, a drunken flipout every now and then is what you need to balance it all out. Gonna have to make sure to stop by Circle K in the next couple days :)

So...You go back yet?

So...You go back yet?

Tried yesterday, but no such luck. Apparently a lot of people work at Circle K.

I guess it's why I flipped my lid, she's not really there that often. For better or worse, I guess I've got to become a much more frequent customer :lulz:

Really though, I'm hopeful. Seems like a cute, cool girl. I'm pretty good at making friends and/or socializing off the cuff, but I was pretty surprised the last time I saw her there. I probably would have attempted to say something but there were like 6 people in line behind me getting pissed at my dork game  :argh!:

Just lurk until you can figure out her schedule. There was a girl working at the Kum-n-Go (no srsly thats what they call Circle K here) near my house and like 3 minutes before I got the nerve to say something to her, they transferred her to somewhere else.
