Quote from: The CommanderGood question.  One is a religious fanatic and the other a Big Oil money fanatic.  It's like trying to decide who you would rather live next to, junkies or white trash.  They both suck equally as far as I can tell.

The Commander

I choose white trash - at least they speak coherently.

Quote from: SMFabalSorry to dissapoint you, Trollax, but Andrew had little or nothing to do with Jeb. The people here in Florida are just that stupid.

UI have bad news for you...they're that stupid EVERYWHERE.

People are stupid everywhere, but Floridians, on the whole, break the curve.  I used to work for a telecommunications company that serviced 13 southern states, including Florida - I worked in a call center for people having problems with their internet.  More than 50% of our calls came from Florida.  When the majority of your population is elderly, and most of the rest are rednecks, you get a special brand of brainlessness that's hard to find anywhere else.

That is EXACTLY my point. Here in Florida, I'm a fucking genius. Anywhere else, I'd just barely get by. I mean, what other state has managed to consitantly rank 49th in education? Even after Gordon Rule and the new hell called ASVAP. Jebs an idiot, Dubba's an idiot, and we're all idoits for letting them get elected

Sorry to dissapoint you, Trollax, but Andrew had little or nothing to do with Jeb. The people here in Florida are just that stupid. We also have an unussually large seniltiy vote (like a graveyard vote, but the people aren't dead yet). Oh, and remebber the chad issue in 2000? Still not really solved. And the people working on it are earning millions. Besides, does anyone really think that the people who couldn't fdigure out punch cards are going to be able to figure out computers? It took me six hours to communicate the concept of "click and drag" to someone in '99. The people here in Florida are just that stupid.

At least Cheny speaks somewhat coherently.  Besides, the succession rules only go 10 deep, then something has to give ...

There is a "true self" that is part of us when we are born. I prefer calling it the "Deeper Self", and it wants three things: to eat, to sleep, and to fuck. At some point, the Deeper Self realizes it must remain alive to to these thing, so self preservation kicks in. After that, self preservation simply becomes more and more elaborate a concept as societial rules are impressed onto the Deeper Self, creating the "Masks" that become the person who lives in society. When thoses masks break down, you end up with criminals and the insane.

I've seen alot of people talking about how our (the USA) government has been acting lately. I just thought I'd bring out some of Robert Heinlein's thoughts on how Government works; I use for the most part Heinlein's definitive work, Stranger in a Strange Land

Quote from: Stranger in a Strange Land, in responce to allegations that politicians seek only to keep themselves in officeA government is a living organism. Like every living thing, its prime characteristic is the instinct to survive. You hit it, it fights back.

Quote from: Stranger in a Strange Land, in response that Americans are not reacting rationally to terrorist treatsHe did not expect reasonable conduct from human beings; most people were candidates for protective restraint.

Quote from: Stranger in a Strange Land, in respose to any argument for elimnating goverment altogetherMan, a social animal, could not avoid government, any more than an individual could escape bondage to his bowels

Quote from: Stranger in a Strange Land in resopnce to talk of 'smashing the system'Democracy is a poor system; the only thing that can be said for it is that it's eight times as good as any other method. Its worst fault is that its leaders reflect their constituents - a low level, but what do you expect?

Quote from: Stranger in a Strange Land in response to the American Governments attempts to 'free' countries under repressive regimesI used to think I served humanity ... and I pleasured in the thought. Then I discovered that humanity does not want to be served; on the contrary, it resents any attempt to serve it. Now I do what pleases [myself].

Quote from: Stranger in a Strange Land in response to attempt to make certain activities and substances illegalI see he beauty of Mike's attempt to devise an ideal ethic and applaud his recognition that such must start by junking the present sexual code and starting fresh. Most philosophers haven't the courage for this; they swallow the basics of the present code - monogamy, family pattern, continence, body taboos, conventional restrictions on intercourse, and so forth - then fiddle with details ... even such piffle as discussing whether the female breast is an obscene sight!
But mostly they debate how we can be made to obey this code - ignoring the evidence that most tragedies the see around them are rooted in the code itself rather than in failure to abide by it.

Before anyone says so, I know I have no original thoughts in my head; I also know I am acting as a slave to the system (so there, Rev. Roger!  :P )

Quote from: Matrix ReloadedIt was discovered that 99% of people would choose to be slaves, even if the choice was only given subconciously

Or Kill Me / On American War
April 09, 2003, 08:24:07 PM
Thoughts on America's History of (Starting a) War Tactics:

AMERICAN REVOLUTION:
Official Line: The American Revolution was kicked off when British Soldiers fired on Tax Protesters.
Truth: British Tax Collecters were so reviled and hated in Colonial America they could not travel alone even when off-duty. Americans kept pushing until some poor Brit snapped.

AMERICAN CIVIL WAR:
Official Line: The South (Confederate States) broke from the Union and declaired war on the North
Truth: The Southern States believed the Federal Government was taking too much power away from the States. When the Federal Army began "transfering troops" into stategic points along the Atlatic Coast (Taditionally manned by Southern Garrisons), certain groups of Southern Soldiers fired on National Army Supply ships. The North never declaired war; it also never acknowleged Southern Seccession.

WWII
Official Line: The Japanese Attacked Pearl Harbor without warning
Truth: The Japanese had been expanding towards Hawaii since the beginbing of the War. They also held a small portion of the Alluthian Islands in Alaska for most of the war. Whether there was military warning of the actual Pearl Harbor Attack, America SHOULD have been ready. Only the massive CIVILIAN casualties moved Americans to attack Japan.

VIETNAM
Official Line: We kept North Vietnam Contained, which was our ONLY Purpose
Truth: WE were shitting bricks about crossing into North Vietnam beacuse China said it would useNuclear Weapons if we did.

MORAL: THE AMERICAN GOVERNMENT LIES TO YOU. Of course, EVERY government lies to you, so that's really not anything new.

As to WHY Dubbya was so damn GungHo about getting Saddam, It's because the Polls showed his popularity was dropping when he couldn't catch Osama Bin Laden. Sadam was an easy target for the good American Sheep to hate: He was Arabic (like Osama), he was a dictator (like Hitler), and everyone remembers how "high" gas prices were during Desert Storm(ALMOST $2.00 per Gallon).
