The capability to remove objects from video in realtime -- coming maybe eventually to a view near you!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FgTq-AgYlTE

It'd be ideal for removing branding from things.  Or eradicating "blemishes" and "blight".

Next time you see a reporter "on-location", you can ask yourself how many people were really behind the reporter...

For your consideration:
Here's an essay on debt, on levels that we rarely think about.  At least read the introduction.

Techmology and Scientism / TEXT "PEEDY" TO 41411
April 10, 2010, 06:42:57 PM
I recently found this site http://textmarks.com . It alloows me to send out automated text messages for free (for every party).  To try it out, I set up a contact that sends out the News: from the top of a http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php page.

Feel free to test it; I'd like some feedback.

Also, I think I can turn over control of the service for "PEEDY" to someone else--I don't especially want to maintain it.

Think for Yourself, Schmuck! / A formula for conflict?
February 03, 2010, 07:39:52 PM
This originally took the form of a long response to someone's status on Facebook.  I've tried to reformat it to be a more self-contained essay.  It seems to cover pretty basic stuff to me, but it also makes the topic more digestible.

Quote from: (Not me)
Quote from: Gil Rendle
"Conflict happens when two ideas are present in the same place at the same time."
Being inclined toward rationalism, I find that very helpful. But my experience tells me that very often it's not two IDEAS in the same place at the same time, but to PEOPLE or two FEELINGS.

I think it depends significantly on what you choose to call an "idea". The following discussion might totally go contrary to the context surrounding your quote, there.

Is a conflict a meeting of two ideas in place and time?  Is a feeling not an idea?

My preferences lean more towards an "idea" being "anything I can express as an idea" or "something I can formulate as words"--by no means something that must be handled rationally.

As for "conflict", I again tend to use a fairly broad defintion, especially when I just have "conflict" without much context. The easiest conflict to consider would be one of two mutually incompatible ideas (as defined above, as I will demonstrate). I don't think that it's the best general model of conflict though. I'm thinking of "conflict" not as a fight but as its cause. "Quarrel" might cover the territory we're both thinking of.

Here are a few example conflicts:
1. Turkey is my favorite lunchmeat. Today I try bologna for the first time. I then think that maybe bologna is my favorite lunchmeat. Supposing that I don't think/feel, "Turkey and bologna are my favorite lunchmeats," I will have conflict in the form of two lunchmeats that might be "my favorite lunchmeat." This conflict is with myself.

2. Suppose two people are sitting on opposite sides of a hill. They both consider the hill their own, for no particular reason. They just feel that way. The ideas would be, "I, A, own this hill, exclusively" and "I, B, own this hill, exclusively". If they ever meet, there will be conflict indeed. This conflict could become heated, or acrimonious, or violent.

If I allow that there are ideas behind a conflict, which don't match up, then I can wonder about what those ideas are. By the way, an interesting conflict can readily occur between three parties/ideas. I will just outline it for now:

A insists, "X is true."
B insists, "Y is true."
Both A and B believe X and Y to be incompatible.
C suspects that X and Y may not be incompatible. If he invites A and B to entertain these notions with him, there will likely be conflict.

Moreover, X and Y might never be what A and B talk or fight about. It could be some conflict springing from them.

If you want to look at conflict, it goes down as far as you're willing to dig, often enough.

Pick up a pebble.  Declare it Earth's new center of gravity.

If it works...

I see a rash of bumps from long ago on this forum of late.  Is this Fall Cleaning, or is it this forum eating its own shit (or itself) again, or what?

Randomly clicking through a Facebook 'friend's' posts, two or three clicks away from his wall leads to this monstrosity.  Oh the horrid formatting.  Like six directly embedded videos.

Joshua Norton declared himself Emperor Norton I of the United States.
QuoteWhen Norton returned to San Francisco from his self-imposed exile, he had become completely disgruntled with what he considered the vicissitudes and inadequacies of the legal and political structures of the United States. On September 17, 1859, he took matters into his own hands and distributed letters to the various newspapers in the city, proclaiming himself "Emperor of these United States"

Think for Yourself, Schmuck! / DISCORDIA 2109
July 14, 2009, 03:59:41 AM
or 2074 or some YOLD 3340~3375.

I was thinking of what discordia will look like in a lifetime or more.  I'd like discussion, or links to essays.  New threads in OKM, in response to this topic, I'd love to see.

Let's play futurist, assuming the Interesting Times become Very Interesting Times Indeed, or remain Unremarkable Times, or even Whatever Kind of Times You've Got.

Or Kill Me / Pention: rant index
June 21, 2009, 06:34:58 PM
I'd like to see a sticky in this board with a sorted list of rants, so you don't have to go hunting through the search engine or anything to find, say, all of TGRR's rants of a particular series.

I'll complete a version if there's support and suggestions of what's wanted, within a few weeks.

Or Kill Me / Nonsense as Salvation
June 09, 2009, 06:34:38 PM
I felt like writing this up for a while.  I didn't recall anyone going anywhere good with the "NONSENSE AS SALVATION" bit from the PD.  Here, I try.

For the reference of new users:
If anyone's "saved" in our shared model of reality, it's us.  We don't need more nonsense on the forum to be "more saved."  We don't even need to keep much around: nothing's easier to produce "in the field".

If you want to get a point across in the forum, try using the words according to the rules of the language.  "Subversion," after all, is a word.

Thanks for joining, we probably want you around.

Zen is what happens when Eastern folks chew paint chips.

If you can't be arsed to mindfuck, you can at least make yourself a random factor.  Chew lead paint chips--they're easy enough to find.  Lead poisoning leads to brain damage.  But at least you're not hurting anyone else.  The brain damage will make you more unpredictable.  Perfect.

Literate Chaotic / Priestcraft
February 27, 2009, 06:50:03 PM
I'm in a mood about organized religion and orthodoxy right now, thought I'd share the following excerpt with the group.  The essay relates explicitly to occult societies, but the ideas seem to apply more generally.

(BTW, I see athiesm (strong athiesm, at least) as unnecessary, and wonder why anyone tarries there.  You can assume things exist without caring about them.  Magical Realism taught me that.)

Link (Pulled at random off of google--just wanted the word priestcraft): http://www.scribd.com/doc/11320511/ISRAEL-REGARDIE-What-You-Should-Know-About-the-Golden-Dawn

Quote from: Israel Regardie
An Order is simply a temporary vehicle of transmission —a means whereby suitable individuals may be trained to awaken within their hearts the consciousness of the boundless Light. But sooner or later, it would appear that the initiates foster loyalty to the external husk, the shell, the organisation of grades at the expense of that dynamic spirit for which the shell was constructed. So often has it happened in the past. Every religion stands as eloquent witness to this fact. It is the fate which has overtaken the Golden Dawn. Practically the whole membership is fanatically attached to individuals conducting Temple work as well as to the mechanical system of grades of the Order. But when this piece of teaching and that document of importance is withdrawn from circulation, mutilated, and in some cases destroyed, none has come forward to register an objection.

Its Chiefs have developed the tyranny of sacerdotalism. They have a perverse inclination towards priestcraft, and secrecy has ever been the forcing ground in which such corruption may prosper. Obligations to personal allegiance whether tacit or avowed, is the ideal method of enhancing the personal reputation of those who for many years have sat resolutely and persistently upon the pastos of the hidden knowledge. If by any chance the hidden knowledge were removed from their custody, their power would be gone. For in most cases their dominion does not consist in the gravitational attraction of spiritual attainment or even ordinary erudition. Their power is vested solely in the one fact, that they happen to be in possession of the private documents for distribution to those to whom they personally wish to bestow a favour as a mark of their esteem.

Think for Yourself, Schmuck! / Desert Outpost
February 17, 2009, 10:45:29 PM
There are places you can live easily, and places you will die quickly.  In human experience, we've discovered that there are sometimes, maybe even often, liveable places on the far sides of deadly places.

This provides motivation for The Desert Outpost.  (Inside of what do you live?)

Here's an outline, I'll post more when I have more time to herd words.

The Desert Outpost is a building with walls.  Those walls, along with the roof, protect you from the elements--especially the sun, dust, and wind.
Inside, the Outpost contains a spring--the outpost can survive indefinitely, given linear models of current trends.  Aside from that, I haven't really decided; the inner structure probably varies with time, according to remodelling efforts.  It could be a Prison, for all I care.  My metaphor, your world.
Outside, desert.  It will fucking eat you alive and still be hungry.  Unless you get to another Outpost or an Oasis before you run out of water or the desert kills you to death.  Those Others, of course, are only hypothetical.  I couldn't tell you if any are close enough to us for you to get there today, much less if we ever will.

This model has a "zoom" feature:  Is one outpost a language?  A civilization?  All of "Society"?  A given model could be any one of these, as long as you keep that scale for the whole story.

GASM Command / WPGASM
December 06, 2008, 09:25:34 PM
Shall we use GASM to take care of Discordia-oriented Wikipedia articles?

We probably should have general, encyclopedic informationa about Discordia on Wikipedia.  Consider, for example, the recent http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Operation_Mindfuck .  Nothing about current/ongoing projects.  I don't think that we or they want that stuff in Wikipedia.  But the established and historical facets of Discordianism, along with what's bled off into the population at large (cf.  Mindfuck) are appropriate for Wikipedia, and can further our diverse purposes.

So, I ask you:  Shall we maintain an active/background level of Wikipedia participation?  Shall we power it with GASM-juice?
