It seems like the Nobel Peace Prize have been kind of like the Grammys for a while now, most of the recent winners have been mere figureheads and U.N. cronies.  I agree that Obama hasn't actually done anything concrete, but at least he has some claim to it even though his contributions to world peace have really only symbolic.

I guess the one silver-lining for him is that maybe he can use this as a smokescreen to pass his Health Care "Reform" package.

That would be such a great silver lining if it actually happened.

It tastes better than it sounds.

Indeed it does!  I had it for the first time last spring and was very surprised at how delicious it is, and moreover how simple it is to make.

The way I made it was to chop up 2 leeks, 1 onion and 2 or 3 potatoes; sautee them all on a low heat for about 15 minutes; then add about 2 cups of chicken stock, salt and garlic and cook on low-medium heat for about 30 minutes more.  Then pour the contents into a food processor and blend it, then mix in 1 cup of heavy whipping cream and allow to chill overnight.

Post it here, and the recipe if you feel like.

This summer I made vichyssoise a couple times and it turned out really well, although I haven't got access to a food processor so can't make it any more.  Of course, my favorite is gazpacho, which I have no idea how to make but enjoy immensely.

kinda yeah.

unless anything you're drinking costs more than 3 bucks.
then you're a snob

Steel Reserve is like Champagne for Floridians.  We consider it the highest form of elitism if you aren't drinking something that can potentially render you blind.

Can you link to that for us? I'd be interested to hear that.

I've always been partial to dada-esque photocomics.

This one cracks me up!

If you're starting from scratch, it can take a lot of observation and recording to figure out what's really going on with the world. We're still figuring it out; consider how much we know we don't know, and then extrapolate from that how much we don't know we don't know. It's vasty deep.

I guess I was unclear.  Sorry about that.

This guy at least entertained the hypothesis of "The Sun is bigger than the Earth and is orbited by it."--
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aristarchus_of_Samos

A matter of speculation became a matter of settled fact without going through any measure of proof.  I've been taking a freshman astronomy course of late.

They really didn't have any good reason to believe in a heliocentric universe back then.  For the ancients it wasn't really about data, it was about what seemed like an elegant solution to the problem.  A few suggested

For most, though, it made more sense to think of the earth as the "sump" of the universe, since everything falls down anyway.  And the Ptolemaic model is extremely elegant, especially considering that when you watch the movements of planets from earth it really does look like they are orbiting in little circles around points that move around us in a big circle.  You'd have had to be crazy or very deep in the philosophy of the Stoics to believe that the sun is the "central fire" of the universe, rather than believe what your own eyes tell you, that the sun is situated in the heavens and goes around the earth.

At any rate, isn't it all relative?  I was reading Hound of the Baskervilles recently and there's an interesting conversation there where Dr. Watson is surprised that Sherlock Holmes is "supremely indifferent" to the question of whether the "earth goes round the sun" or vice versa.  As long as the math works out right and the model is predicting things accurately, it's only a question of semantics.  So as long as there was a working model in Ptolemy (and the antethykira device shows that is sure as hell worked), there was probably not much interest to the practically-minded of the ancients.

Hey thanks for the kind words everybody!

@ Burns and Jenne
This comic is very much influenced by Mexican Day of the Dead art.  My particular favorite is a Mexican illustrator named Posada, who pretty much invented the style.  I do like to take it out of the Mexican context, however.

@Richter
Thanks, I'm really glad you like it!  I was hoping that the cut/paste aspect wouldn't put people off.  Some are, some aren't.  So it goes.

@Telarus
Ok, you got me, what's the pool on the roof?

Why am I not surprised at this?

Hi everyone, I have a new webcomic called Bonejangles, that has sort of a Discordian flavor to it.  You all can be the judges of that.  Here's a sample comic.  Any feedback is appreciated.

By the way, I am a big fan of the Illuminatus trilogy, so it is nice to be here on the Discordian forums!
