Aneristic Illusions / Orly Taitz for Senate!
December 13, 2011, 06:30:22 PM
Fuck yeah!  This century is awesome!

According to this two week old article, she has raised about 3/4 of the money she needs to be on the CA ballot.

Quote"I received $2,445 towards $3,420 registration fee," she wrote on one of her websites. "I need to collect $975 more in order to register on the ballot in CA as an official candidate runing for U.S. Senate. With an unprecedented level of corruption in the US Senate, House of Rep and courts, there has to be at least one person with the strength of character to speak up the truth about our Thief-in-Chief."

Meanwhile, Taitz spent the weekend in New Hampshire trying to keep Obama off the ballot there, according to Talking Points Memo, which is supported by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

Here is her campaign website: http://www.runorlyrun.com/

I see there that she has raised the money she needs to get on the ballot and will be registering "shortly".  Splendid!

Oh, look!  She's having a slogan writing contest, where a lucky slogan writer can win a $100 Wal*Mart gift card.

QuoteWe are looking for a catchy slogan that can be used to promote Orly Taitz's candidacy. The slogan must comprise of a few words not long sentences.  Not all slogans can be accepted because they may be the same or very close to ones we already have or have been submitted by others.

If you wish your name will be posted on our Slogan Contributors Wall.  If you don't want your real name posted to our Slogan Contributors Wall, enter an alias and we will post that name.

Deadline is Dec. 20, 2011.
Judgment  by Orly Taitz is final.
The reward for the winning slogan is a $100 Walmart Gift Card.

Obama wants to extend a tax cut, but the Republicans voted against extending it because they say this tax cut costs too much.

http://www.businessweek.com/ap/financialnews/D9RC43TO0.htm

QuoteMany Republicans and even some Democrats say the payroll tax cut hasn't worked to boost jobs and is too costly with the federal deficit requiring the government to borrow 36 cents of every dollar it spends.
This is of course, totally unlike the capital gains tax cut that the Republicans did vote to extend, which costs nothing and has created oodles of jobs.

Literate Chaotic / I, Mammal
November 30, 2011, 01:30:19 AM
I recently started reading I, Mammal by Dr. Loretta Graziano Breuning.  In this book, she is basically saying the same thing that The Good Reverend Roger has been preaching for years, that humans are just a bunch of status-obsessed monkeys seeking to dominate other monkeys.  She goes pretty deep into the neurochemical reasons for why this is so.  It makes a lot of sense to me, and I'm getting a lot out of it.

This quote is from the inside cover.

QuoteHumans have inherited the brain structures that all mammals have in common. This mammalian limbic system controls the neurochemicals that humans experience as happiness. Our happy chemicals flow when we do things that promote survival from a mammal's point of view.

Survival often rests on our ties to a herd or pack or troop. The mammal brain constantly chooses between the urge to take what it wants and the urge to avoid harmful conflict with group-mates. Neurochemicals guide a mammal to either hold back or assert, as it reads the circumstances of each moment. When a mammal finds a way to meet its survival needs, its brain releases happy chemicals.

Dominance hierarchies emerge spontaneously as each mammal in a group seeks rewards and avoids harm. The social dominance behaviors of wild animals are eerily familiar. The field notes of a primatologist are suspiciously similar to the lyrics of a country western song. A zoology textbook bears uncanny resemblance to a soap opera script. Animal behavior tells us what our own limbic system cannot put into words.

We all look for ways to stimulate our happy chemicals and avoid unhappy chemicals. We mammals are curiously preoccupied with social hierarchy as a result. You may say you're "against status." But if you filled a room with people who say they are anti-status, a hierarchy would soon form based on how anti-status each person is. That's what mammals do.

The mammal brain responds to the world with neurochemicals, not with words. This lack of language makes it hard for the human cortex to understand the mammal brain it's attached to. No self-respecting human thinks of themselves as a dominance-seeking herd animal. But if you want happy chemicals, you have to get them from your mammal brain. We can finally understand this hybrid brain of ours thanks to an accumulation of research in animal science and neuroscience.

The frustrations of social hierarchies are not caused by "our society." We are simply heirs to the brain that helped mammals thrive for millions of years. It's not easy being human with a mammalian operating system. Managing your mammal brain is the challenge that comes with the gift of life. No one else can manage it for you, and you cannot do it for someone else. When you know where your neurochemistry came from, you can stop fixating on our flaws and celebrate how well we do with the mental equipment we've got.

She has a PDF version of her book available for free on her website: http://www.imammalthebook.com/I_Mammal/I_Mammal.html

Aneristic Illusions / Tax Cuts Create Jobs
November 04, 2011, 02:53:58 PM
It turns out that cutting taxes is, in fact, a way to create jobs.

New Jersey Offers Goya $80 Million to Create Nine New Jobs
QuoteThe state's tax subsidy for these nine new workers is being offered under the newly revised Urban Transit Hub Tax Credit (UTHTC) statute. It is intended to provide an incentive to a firm by lowering its state corporate business tax obligation so that a company will make capital investments in buildings in urban areas near transit and create jobs.

It just isn't a very efficient way to do so.

Aneristic Illusions / Commit a crime, go to church
September 27, 2011, 10:32:13 PM
This is awesome  :lulz:

http://www2.wkrg.com/news/2011/sep/22/serve-time-jailor-church-ar-2450720/

QuoteBAY MINETTE, Alabama --
Non-violent offenders in Bay Minette now have a choice some would call simple: do time behind bars or work off the sentence in church.

Operation Restore Our Community or "ROC"...begins next week. The city judge will either let  misdemenor offenders work off their sentences in jail and pay a fine or go to church every Sunday for a year.

If offenders elect church, they're allowed to pick the place of worship, but must check in weekly with the pastor and the police department. If the one-year church attendance program is completed successfully, the offender's case will be dismissed.

The program is constitutional, because the offenders aren't forced to go to church, and they choose the church.  They have a choice between going to jail, paying a fine, and having a criminal record, or remaining free except for one hour every Sunday and having no criminal record.

PMZ,
needs to open a combination church/sports bar in Bay Minette with video poker machines and a two-drink minimum during the Sunday service, which consists of watching football on big screen TVs.

We need to get SERIOUS about defending marriage in here the tarheel state.  We already have not one but two laws on the books banning gay marriage, but that's not enough.  We need a constitutional amendment, that not only says same-sex marriages are not recognized, but that civil unions, domestic partnerships, whatever else, are also not recognized.

So our house and senate voted overwhelmingly to pass this bill, which will put this this line item on our state primary ballot May 8:

Quote[ ] FOR   [ ] AGAINST
Constitutional amendment to provide that marriage between one man and one
woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this State.

I will be playing the jobs angle, how this amendment will hurt our state's ability to attract employers.  There's a lot of good ammo for me in this article.  I have contacted my state representatives, but it's a little late seeing as how putting this measure on the ballot is a done deal now.

I'm also spreading links to this event on FB, reminding people to vote in the primary so they can vote against this amendment.

ETA: For all the good it will do.  I will be surprised if this bill doesn't pass by at least 70%-30%.

http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-20087038-1/mysterious-ufo-like-object-spotted-on-sea-floor/

QuotePaging Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, we need you at the Baltic Sea as soon as possible. In what sounds like an opening for the next X-Files movie, an ocean salvage exploration company found an object on the floor of the Baltic Sea that looks an awful lot like a UFO.

The sonar images are vague at best, but the object still bears an uncanny resemblance to the outline of the Millennium Falcon. Has George Lucas been spotted anywhere in the vicinity?

The images come courtesy of the Ocean Explorer team, an experienced group of Swedish salvagers that already raised an impressive collection of rare and very expensive champagne from the watery depths.

Expedition leader Peter Lindberg notes that the mystery object is 60 meters across. Lines in the ocean floor next to it almost look like a skidded landing area.

I blame work, mostly, but also I have also been busy making this website: http://www.charlotteoktoberfest.com/ .  If you like beer and can be in Charlotte NC on October 8, then I highly encourage you to come to this festival.  I have attended the past two years and it was great.

I also read Atlas Shrugged since I was last here, so now I'm like a total Randtard -- I now know, through the magic of the Dunning-Kruger effect, that I am a pre-rich uberproductive superman, but the looters and parasites are robbing me and my kind at gunpoint and that's why we're not living in some kind of utopia or something and Obama is a socialist.

But then again, I also read Fight Club and became an ordained Subgenius minister during the same time, so some things probably got canceled out in there somewhere.

I had a busy month.

PMZ,
Would totally have wanted to watch the movie if they had gotten Antonio Banderas to play that Francisco guy, because that's who I was picturing when I read the "action" scenes.

Texas Lawmakers are considering a bill to punish people who "intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly" hire illegal alien, but they put an exemption in the bill for people who hire full-time maids, gardeners, or other houseworkers.  I'm presuming this is because the Texas lawmakers want to exempt themselves from the law.

QuoteTexas state Rep. Aaron Pena, a Republican, said the exception is a wise one.  "With things as they are today, her bill will see a large segment of the Texas population legislature in prison" if it passes without the exception, he said.
Fixed that for you, Mr. Pena.

Discordian Recipes / Homemade Yogurt is teh easy
January 23, 2011, 04:04:46 PM
You will need:

  • 4 clean pint (1/2 liter) jars.
  • A pot.
  • A thermometer.
  • A cooler large enough to hold the four jars upright.
  • 1/2 gallon (2 liters) organic whole milk.
  • A small container of the best Greek or Middle Eastern yogurt you can get your hands on.   Make sure it contains live cultures.

Scoop 1/2 TBSP (7.5 ml) yogurt into the jars.  Eat the rest.
Heat the milk in the pot.  Hold at 180° F (82° C) for 20 minutes.  This step will help make the yogurt thick and spoonable, rather than runny and drinkable.
Cover and let cool to 110° F (42° C).
Divide warm milk between the jars.  Screw on the lids and shake to distribute the yogurt.
Place jars in the cooler.  Fill cooler with hot tap water almost up to the lids of the jars.
Close cooler, cover with blanket or towel.
Let it sit undisturbed for about 10 hours.
Your yogurt is ready.

I always start a new batch when I open my last jar.  That way, I always have high-quality yogurt for the cost of high-quality milk.

A Christian group called The Council of Conservative Citizens is boycotting Marvel's upcoming movie Thor -- not for the reason I would have expected, that it celebrates or promotes paganism --  but because "the God Heimdall is played by a black man."

OH NOEZ!

ETA: I was wondering why a Christian group would give a rat's ass if someone declared war on a pagan mythology, until I read their "statement of principles" and then understood where they were coming from, that they see it as a left-wing attack on the white man's heritage.

Aneristic Illusions / The Repeal Amendment
December 01, 2010, 02:23:43 AM
Virginia house speaker Bill Howell, incoming U.S. house majority leader Eric Cantor, several other Republicans are behind a plan to call a constitutional convention to amend the constitution.  They call the amendment that they want to pass the "Repeal Amendment", and it would allow any group of 2/3 of state legislatures to repeal any federal law they don't like.

For people who claim to love the constitution, the tea partiers sure do seem to be eager to make radical changes to it.

Or Kill Me / Thirteenthers
July 31, 2010, 03:28:25 AM
I wasn't sure whether to put this here or in Aneristic Delusions, but since it's mostly my own craziness with only a tenuous connection to current political events, I sided towards putting it here.

Have you heard about these so-called "thirteenther" people?  I don't think their movement is very big.  Anyway, they believe that contrary to what everyone else believes, that the Titles of Nobility Amendment (TONA) was in fact ratified as the 13th amendment and has been the law of the land since 1819, but some sneaky conspiracy of lawyers secretly had it unlawfully removed from the constitution during or immediately after the civil war.  This is all based on the fact that there happen to be existing copies of the constitution from that era that were printed with this amendment.

This is the text of the amendment, emphasis mine:
QuoteIf any citizen of the United States shall accept, claim, receive or retain, any title of nobility  or honour, or shall, without the consent of Congress, accept and retain any present, pension, office or emolument of any kind whatever, from any emperor, king, prince or foreign power, such person shall cease to be a citizen of the United States, and shall be incapable of holding any office of trust or profit under them, or either of them.

What brought this to my attention was a story about the Iowa GOP having a plank in their platform about reintroducing and ratifying TONA.  I don't believe they buy into the whole thirteenther agenda, but are just doing it as a snub to Obama for accepting the Nobel Prize, which they apparently consider to be an emolument from a foreign power.

What gets interesting about the thirteenther movement is that they take a very broad view of what constitutes a title of nobility or honor, such that it would include lawyers and bankers, so if TONA is the law of the land, then lawyers and bankers should be stripped of citizenship and barred from participation in government.  That gets my attention, and I'm starting to really like this movement.

Now what's REALLY interesting is that since they believe that TONA has been the official law of the land since 1819, and since the federal government has been primarily run by bankers and lawyers, that virtually every action taken by the federal government since 1819 is illegitimate.  So by my reckoning, that means corporate personhood goes away, Kelo v. New London goes away, war on drugs goes away, the federal reserve goes away, and the gold standard comes back. Florida goes back to Spain, Texas reverts back to an independent republic, the American Southwest goes back to Mexico, the Pacific Northwest goes back to England, Alaska goes back to Russia, and Hawaii reverts back to an independent Kingdom.  Several states including Alabama, Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, the Dakotas, and Oklahoma all lose their statehood status.  The Department of Homeland Security, Department of Defense, CIA, FBI, ATF, TTB, DEA -- all gone.

So this is all sounding really good to me, but I had a grave concern, and that was that it would also mean the undoing of all the amendments and federal court decisions having to do with civil rights.  I was discussing this with a friend of mine and mentioned this concern, and his response was short and to the point, "What civil rights?  The ones the Patriot Act took away?"

Touché.

OK, so now the only issue I have is that I don't believe their claim about the amendment being ratified and then secretly removed.  But I guess that issue is moot, because, I mean who cares what I believe or don't believe?  Certainly not anyone with any power.

But like I said, I'm not sure there is actually much of a movement out there.  My googling leads me to believe the so-called movement is nothing more than maybe five or six ultra-right-wing kooks with websites.  I believe that Newsweek journalist may have been playing them up a bit to make his story more sensational.

Here are links to a couple of Thirteenther sites if you're curious:

Discordian Recipes / PMZ's beer making fread
November 07, 2009, 05:15:33 AM
I'll be brewing an English-style IPA tomorrow.  I brewed the same style in May and that batch is almost gone.  I entered a few bottles in a homebrew competition, and I tweaked the recipe in response to the judges' comments.  I'm dropping the bitterness by about 1/3 (44 ibu's instead of 58) and using a more flavorful base malt (maris otter instead of British pale).

10 lb Maris Otter
1 lb German Munich
1/2 lb Crystal 40L
1/2 lb Belgian Biscuit
1/2 lb American Wheat

Single infusion at 154°

...
Tonight Rush became the metaphor for all of us... every man woman and child in this great nation of ours.

The enemy of this great nation, the enemy of you and me, Rush's enemy... those on the left, inside and outside of this nation abhor success... and when faced with it will destroy it... by any and all means possible.

We all have our dreams in life... such as they might be. Rush dreamed of being an owner in the NFL.
...
Will your light of your dreams be next?

Will my dreams be next?

    First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a communist;
    Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist;
    Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist;
    Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew;
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak out for me.
