Title: PD.COM...2009 in Review.
Post by: Suu on December 12, 2009, 06:09:40 PM
Well, I know my year got off to a bang. I came down from the high of winning master level costuming awards to being asked for a divorce from Herbert, who no longer has the balls to show up on this forum. Everything sort of went out of control from there. I introduced General Stuart to to the board and the power of WOMP, and he's been nigh unstoppable since...well since he went to work in Vermont.

It also appears that our alphabetical members of the board, RWHN and LMNO, have decided to breed.

Someone take it from here.

2009 was the year of the February Fuckover, in which several members of PD.com (and/or people close to them) got totally fucked over. I personally avoided the worst of it, and I'll let those individuals affected by it tell their own stories. Or maybe someone can find a link to the February Shit List thread we made.

2009 was also the year of the Second Generation Internet Safaris. I participated in several of these, even acting as a sort of impromptu leader on some of them. These board-hopping adventures enjoyed great success on at least one forum, that being, appropriately enough, a forum devoted to discussing IRL African Safaris. We were tolerated on a few others, and unceremoniously booted off of a few more. I'm told that this second generation of Internet Safaris was rather different from the first incarnation, although I was not around for the first Safaris so maybe someone else can illuminate the differences between them.

And some other stuff happened.

I was barely here for most of the year and the board flourished.

Now I'm back, and you can see the results for yourselves.

I started dating a corpse-carver, I met a bunch of new freaks, and we did the psycho letters.

Oh, yeah, I also had 2 heart attacks, lost 30 pounds, and got all fucked up on pills.

Working on graphic novel of MSY, release date May 1st.

I took part in a couple safaris, left from March until about August, came back and contributed to some writing threads, and undertook NaNoWriMo (which I heard about on this board).

In life, 2009 has been a pretty good year for me.  2008 was awful, so it didn't take much.

I skipped taking part in the February fuck over and instead had the November fuck over.

Roger kicked off his letters series with Hey, LMNO! and now he and several members are working on a graphic novel adaptation. This was the start of the AT/OKM reversal. More awesomeness to come.

Aside from that and Intermittens I can't really recall the events here over the last year in great detail. Is that bad, considering how much time I spend around here?

Notable trolls include, well, only Dead Kennedy I think.

I drank a lot of beer.

smoked a lot of cigarettes.

stuck a lot of motherfuckers with blunt metal objects.

found out why they call them TV dinners.

Ate an entire 15 pound chicken by myself.

wrote threatening letters to people I look like but hate.

Oh yeah, and went back to work.

I got a dog, gave up smoking (again) and sank deeper into the comfortable slushy pits of alcoholism

For obvious reasons - don't remember much, other than a few near death experiences in kayaks. If the drink don't kill me in 10 the sea is bound to.

Remember how we kicked off the year...with a spagtacular party at Eve's with lots of snow, pineapple mutilation, and welcoming Cainad into the New England Cabal with Crisco and a glass jar.

I claimed Rhode Island in my name and began the Sovereign Principality of Kaousuu, which is expanding to include a good amount of Southern New England now. Richter formally declared our sect of Discordia to be known as Our Lady of Perpetual Confusion, and offered sermons and took confessions at several events during the year. Our Lady of Perpetual Confusion is also now the name of my clothing line.

Oh. In April my grandfather died and I picked up rapier fencing. I got my first New England tick waaaay too close to my crotch in June, and attended my first Pennsic War in July where I met Ratatosk and Sjaantze. I moved out of the Monastery into a house with crazy people, and still haven't gotten out.

Though I think Zardoz and the Crisco jar were pre-2009 by a few hours, it was still a hell of a way to get rid of 2008.

Also in 2009: Swamp Yankees vs. Pretty Much Everyone Else

Imagine if World War I had been fought using nitrous oxide instead of mustard gas, over-the-top character slandering and insults instead of sending soldiers over the top, and everyone armed with a bazooka.

That would, approximately, give you a completely wrong idea of what it was like.

this year my house burned down, and I survived. the appartment got rebuilt better than EVAR and my gf moved in with me

lots of crappy stuff also happened but I will focus on the good things because this will attract more good things (as per the law of fives)

I also got a netbook, which is the greatest thing EVAR

which I used to read Transmetropolitan which is also the greatest thing EVAR

and I slept under a cricket stadium the night before DoD'09 in Edinburgh

2009 was the year of culmination, and 2010 will be the year of rounding things up. as per the Tarot/numerological interpretation.

I spent the first half of the year getting crushed by work and alienating a couple of my closest friends. Then I spent 2 months in a town I hated, without a job because my old boss is a dick who kept telling me that he'd line shifts up, but by the time I figured he wasn't going to it was too late to start handing out resumes.

Then I went to Canada, met a bunch of awesome people, and got to see my GF on a semi-regular basis.

Also, I had two Discordian meat ups, which destroyed my theory that everybody on here is just an alt of TGRR and ECH.

Also we learned that other people have noticed the spider webs draping the city.

2009 was a year I was finally able to stay in one place, and not move again.

I lost some family, and people I know lost some too.

Some gnarly shit happened in general, but things are moving on regardless.

I pulled some interesting stunts, and played some interesting parts both for fun, and because it was the needful thing to do at the time.  It's unlikely it will ever be wise for me to own up or compeltely explain any of it.  I have looked after me people though, and kept them even when it meant hauling miracles out of my ass or lying like a bastard.

I have a new appreciation for the kind of deviant I am, which circles I should not try to have serious fun with, and learned it all cheaply, considered.

I also am in better shape, picked up another martial art, and signifigantly developed the ones I already practice.

Things are looking up, looking down.

Maternal grandmother finally passed away and now granddad lives in our other spare room for the time being,
